What is Figure of Speech?
These are modes of expression in which words are used out of their literal meaning to add intensity, beauty or to transfer the poet's sense impressions by comparing or identifying one thing with another.

Types of Figure of speech
A) Simile
-which object, idea, character, or action is compared to another thing using the words "as" or "like".
Examples:
1. His smile was as bright as the morning sun.
2. Her voice was as smooth as silk, calming everyone in the room.
3. The city lights at night were like a sea of stars, twinkling in the distance

B) Metaphor
- when ideas, actions, or objects are described in non-literal terms
Examples:
1. The world is a stage, and we are all actors playing our parts.
2. Love is a fragile flower, beautiful yet delicate.
3. Life is a joumey with its ups and downs, twists and tums.

C) Personification
-is when a non-human figure or other abstract concept or element is described as having human-like qualities or characteristics.
Examples:
1. The wind moaned, beckoning me to come outside.
2. The sun smiled down on the children playing in the park.
3. The stubbom door refused to open, despite my numerous attempts.

D) Irony
is a statement is used to express an opposite meaning that the one literally expressed by it.
Examples:
1.A lifeguard drowning during a swimming competition.
2. The fire station burned down while the firefighters were on a safety training exercise.
3.A marriage counselor getting divorced.

E) Imagery
Refers to the vivid and descriptive language that creates a sensory experience for the reader.
Examples:
1. The dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of fiery orange and pink.
2. Her fingers brushed against the soft velvet fabric, feeling its smooth texture.
3. The scent of freshly-cut grass wafted through the air, signaling the arrival of spring.

F) Paradox
-statement that may seem self-contradictory or logically inconsistent but reveals a deeper truth or meaning.
Examples:
1. This statement is false.
2. Less is more.
3. The beginning of the end.
