Ada 3 macam dosis:
- Dosis efektif
- Dosis toksis
- Dosis lethal
Dosis toksis adalah dosis yang melebihi takaran yang seharusnya. Dosis ini menyebabkan keracunan, atau lebih sering disebut overdosis.
Dosis lethal hampir sama dengan dosis toksis, namun lebih berbahaya dari dosis toksis.
Kenapa? Karena dosis toksis hanya mengakibatkan keracunan, sedangkan dosis lethal mengakibatkan kematian.
Berbeda dg kedua macam dosis tadi, dosis efektif adalah takaran yang memberikan efek positif, misalnya menyembuhkan.
Dosis efektif terbagi lagi menjadi:
a. Dosis Lazim
Dosis ini berasal dari berbagai referensi, bukan takaran 'mutlak' dan digunakan sbg petunjuk umum pengobatan. Dosis inilah yang sering kalian temui di kemasan2 obat.
b. Dosis Minimum dan Dosis Maksimum Adalah takaran terkecil dan terbesar dimana suatu zat masih bisa memberikan efek bagi tubuh. Diantara jarak kedua dosis ini terdapat Dosis Terapi. Yaitu takaran zat yang digunakan untuk menyembuhkan pasien.
Dosis terapi tiap orang bisa beda beda, tergantung kondisi tubuh si pasien.
Ilmu yang mempelajari tentang dosis disebut Posologi.
