The president of Chulalongkorn Univesity’s student council was dismissed from his place after he introduced a controversial video at a scholar orientation in 2021. The video featured talks by two outstanding protest leaders, nicknamed Penguin and Rung, who're recognized critics of Thailand’s monarchy. In his talk, Penguin raised his center finger, and encouraged college students to do the identical. Thai PBS reported that the Student Affairs Office called this a “vulgar” gesture, and stated it went against Thai tradition and subsequently may “cause disunity” among college students.
Another controversial one who appeared in the video chat was Pavin Chachavalpongpun, a tutorial and critic of the monarchy who fled to Japan in 2014.
Chulalongkorn deducted 10 factors from the coed council president’s behaviour rating, and dismissed him from his place. The former president, Netiwit, mentioned yesterday that he spoke to the university’s vice director to acknowledge the choice. The Student Affairs Office condemned him for being complicit within the event without telling the workplace about it first, and for inviting Penguin as a speaker. ผลไม้ was lately granted three months bail from a jail sentence.
