Devshirme: Devshirme was a system that took place under the Ottoman Empire. The system of devshirme was introduced under Sultan Murad 2 in the 1420's. The sultan would collect Christian boys from the Balkans and turn them into his slaves.
Janissaries: a member of the Turkish infantry forming the Sultan's guard between the 14th and 19th centuries.
Millets: a separate legal court pertaining to "personal law" under which a confessional community (a group abiding by the laws of Muslim Sharia, Christian Canon law, or Jewish Halakha) was allowed to rule itself under its own system.
ghazis: a Muslim fighter against non-Muslims.
Harem:
Mughals: a member of the Muslim dynasty of Mongol origin founded by the successors of Tamerlane, which ruled much of India from the 16th to the 19th century.
Sikhs: an adherent of Sikhism.
Taj Mahal: a white marble mausoleum built at Agra, India, by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan (fl. 1628–58) for his favorite wife.
Mehmet II: Sultan of Turkey (1451–1481) and founder of the Ottoman Empire. He conquered Constantinople in 1453 and made it his capital.
Suleiman: Sultan of the ottoman empire
Akbar: Mogul emperor of India
Shah Jahan: Mogul emperor in India. Built the Taj Mahal.
Nur Jahan: Empress of the Mughal Empire as the chief consort of Emperor Jahangir.
