Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the remote control features of their key fob. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the car and start the engine and even locate it.

Place the fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin between the fob cover and the fob, and gently pull it up.

Unlocking the Door

If you're using a brand-new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, then you may be unsure of some of its key fob hidden features. You can make use of the manual lock/unlock feature if your key fob battery fails.

The key fob should be held with the Volvo logo in the front to press the manual lock/unlock. Locate the black button that is on the outside of the body of the key fob, and gently press it to open a cover that houses a manual key blade. The cover can be flipped clockwise using a flathead, or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer an ease of use and functionality that is not available with traditional manual keys. Key fobs, like any other battery-operated device, will eventually lose its charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's a good sign that it's in need of a new battery.

You can enable this feature by using the key fob if your vehicle comes with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will be heated or cooled to the same temperature it was set to when it was parked. It can last for up to 15 mins.

Use a fingernail to remove the cover on the back of the key fob. The button should be under the cover at a diagonal, near the body's edge. Remove it by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will fall off and slide off revealing the manual blade! If you're still having trouble finding the button, search around the newly exposed manual key access to find whether there is a hidden slot or lever.

Closing the Windows

Volvo key fobs come with an in-built feature that lets you to instantly open all the windows. This is a great feature when trying to squeeze into a cramped parking spot, or even just when you need some fresh air in your cabin while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all of the windows, and the sunroof if it comes with one. When you're finished with the vehicle, you can close all the windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.

You can also use the key fob for activating your car's panic alarm. It will sound an intense, enthralling roar which can deter thieves and allow you to return home in peace after a night out. This feature is handy when you reside in an area that is dangerous or wish to ensure the safety of your family while away from home.

The opening of the Tailgate

Volvo's key fob is stuffed with useful features. These are perfect when you're busy with grocery shopping or helping your kids load up their sports gear after practice.

For instance, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it by using the key fob. It is possible to open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it by pressing the same button.

Utilize the key fob when you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't be worried if your battery fails or your car doesn't start because it also has an electronic key slot). This is just one of the many tricks that can be useful for your new Volvo.

Turning Off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are more useful than a traditional car key. However, they aren't able to function flawlessly forever, and their batteries eventually fail. If you're in a hurry and don't want to visit a shop to have your key fob reprogrammed, you can make it work at home.

Choose a clean, flat surface and lay out your key fob, battery as well as any additional keys. Find the small black button in the lower left corner of the key fob, then slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and reveal the key blade's mechanical structure underneath.

Press the key fob's unlock button two times quickly, and you should be able to unlock all the doors as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you will be able to close the windows and the sunroof when they're fitted. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, then the owner's manual should have a way to reset the system.
