Luckily, some of the most beautiful homes in the world can be found right here in sunny California.

Look for abstract or geometric pieces in design made of natural materials like wood or stone. The California Casual minimalist look is a popular design style that emphasizes clean lines and simple silhouettes. This look can be achieved by installing light beige shade wood floors. The light color of the floors will help reflect light and make the space appear larger. In addition, the minimalist style of the floors will complement any contemporary furniture. Organic linen is an excellent option for a modern California-style interior design.

Much of California has a Mediterranean climate, so it makes sense that the state's inhabitants have long borrowed from Mediterranean architecture and landscaping. California's take on Mediterranean style is a blend of Italian, Spanish, Moorish, and Mission influences. Stucco finishes, intricate tilework, dark wood tones, archways, and wrought iron accents characterize the aesthetic.
Neutral-colored furniture is a common choice in California interior design because it is easy to care for and has a timeless appeal. “There are nice benches or banquettes with storage in them that you can use in your dining space,” Swabb says. This interior decor style is perfect for people who want to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere in their homes. One of the unique features I’m seeing in some of the pioneers of this style is a focus on Spanish Revival architecture - at least on the interior.
"This pint-size place tells the story of the house in one gulp," says Anderson Wier. "It has a modern sensibility, but it isn't stark," Anderson Wier says. My tour of that residential community was a microcosm of California living – casual chic, fashionable trends, comfort, sunshine, and ocean breezes. That laidback, serene feel that comes with being close to the coast.

Easy to care for with a timeless appeal, these items can pair with almost any other décor. But when it comes down to choosing between the two, it’s almost always a personal preference. But on the other, black is sleek and perfect for a California modern interior design. Typical color palettes include neutral tones, with pops of soft color through accent pieces.

Black is also a perfect choice for accents, as it adds a bit of contrast and visual interest. Start by incorporating natural elements like a woven rug or a wooden table or bench to create a warm and welcoming ambiance. Natural materials add warmth and texture to your home and create a connection to the outdoors, which is a hallmark of California casual design. If California Home Design Style ’d like to bring a touch of California casual interior design to your home, here are a few ideas to help you get started.

Initially, there was a ranch home on the site now occupied by this modern family residence. It’s a single-story home with a simple and low-profile design chosen as a sign of top home california design respect to the surroundings and neighborhood. Located in Orangevale, in Northern California, the residence was built as a replacement for a ranch damaged beyond repair.

Stepping down a cascade of stone stairs, past monolith blocks and tidy shrubbery, feels almost like entering a sacred garden—the latter a collaboration with landscape architect Rob Maday. A glass wall at the front door reveals the first glimpse of the interiors, a sitting room and the husband’s office, and two stairwells. One leads up to the family’s bedrooms, and one leads down to the great room, wine cellar, a guest suite, and the pool terrace, where landmarks like the Getty Museum dot the view.

Julia Morgan’s design for Hearst Castle after World War I set the gold standard in California for luxury and Spanish Revival style. From San Diego to San Francisco and in between, the Spanish/Mediterranean homes fascination continues to this day. Californian homes are often characterised by Mediterranean floor plans. This Mediterranean california styles homes from mid century modern floor plan has an open floor plan which allows for easy flow between the dining, kitchen & living room. When I was looking at those old 2017 photos, naturally imperfect, yet very cool, wood was the look. But I also noticed that wood in general was used more as an accent as opposed to now where tends to be the statement.
What is California modern style? Hallmarks of this style are attention to indoor-outdoor living, open plans, rectilinear structures often constructed with steel frames, and extensive use of glass. The term is most often used to refer to the Case Study House Program initiated by John Entenza in 1945, and to modernist residential structures in general.

Natalie LaHaie is the Business Development and Marketing Director at Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects (EYRC). She is a graphic designer by trade and a natural strategic thinker, employing design to express vision, direction, and values. The original pitched roof was replaced with a single flat roof, to better reflect the climate. The focus of the project was not on the materials, but on orienting the house to capitalize on the view.
