Custom and Randall Knives
Fiddleback Forge’s knives are highly sought after by knife aficionados and avid outdoorsmen alike. The purely hand-crafted knives are especially desirable since they are designed for hard use with fantastic ergonomics and feature beautiful materials. Each unique knife is made by hand at the Fiddleback Forge shop. Master knife-maker and designer, Andy Roy, finishes each knife personally to make sure you are getting the highest quality knife imaginable. Forging knives since 2006, Don Carlos Andrade is one of a very few Master Bladesmiths, that happens to be a full-time chef knife specialists, backed with an extensive culinary and fine arts background. This combined knowledge and experience has aided him in creating some of the most exquisite, hand-forged, chef and camp knives available today.
So, I went with 60 Rc and that seemed to fix the tip breakage. I retired in Aug 2009 from working on saws in sawmills and now at 80 years old am close to being a retired knifemaker. In 1990 I initiated my membership into the Knifemakers Guild. After five years, even though the Guild is a very prestigious and wonderful organization, I made the tough decision to end my membership since it just wasn't being cost effective for me. I moved from central Oregon to California in 1988 to a higher paying sawmill job and a warmer climate, then began to participate in California knife shows.



I started making knives in October 2015 and I’m still learning and loving everyday of it! At this point your pricing will be determined not by a friend or another maker’s similar work, but through your understanding of your position in the market and how you got there. It is my promise to my clients that I never use CNC, Waterjet, third-party heat treatment or any other automated process. Production models are available with a wide array of customizable options. Alternatively, full-on custom builds may be requested if you have a specific design in mind.

It took just over 2.5 months from submitting the design to getting it delivered. Although this may seem like a long time, keep in my that my design was a custom one made from a template, nothing that could be bought in a store. Bladesmiths employ a variety of metalworking techniques similar to those used by blacksmiths, as well as woodworking for knife and sword handles, and often leatherworking for sheaths. Each knife handle is custom finished individually just for you! No two are alike; various Exotic woods from all over the world are used in the finishing process by Jim McBeth. I recently placed a large order of knives with custom laser engraving for gifts to sponsors of a charity banquet with a pretty short turnaround.
When sharpening your knife, try to sharpen only the cutting edge so as not to damage the pattern etched on the blade. You can find your knife’s blade angle noted in the packaging insert. We usually sharpen our knives to 18º on each side, although this varies with blade thickness. If possible, store your knife on a magnetic strip or in a special knife block. If you store your knife in a drawer, wrap the blade in a cloth or keep it in a case to avoid any blade damage. Now I’m looking for the perfect cabin in the wood to escape the city noise that overwhelms me more and more.
