Data are needed on the acceptability of Covid-19 vaccination among young, low-income, diverse populations. To assess this, we surveyed 18-45-year-old women on their intent to be vaccinated, experiences with Covid-19, and uptake of other vaccines. Among the 342 who completed the survey, only one-third were likely to accept the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as it was available. Less than half would accept it even if recommended by their doctor. Most (69%) wanted more information on its safety and 48% wanted proof it works. Likelihood of accepting the vaccine with a doctor's recommendation was associated with fear of catching Covid-19 and exposure to social media as well as HPV and annual flu vaccination. This demonstrates it will be necessary to help vaccine-hesitant individuals overcome their concerns to reach herd immunity in the US. Physician recommendation and social media may play important roles.ObjectivesDue to the persistent primary care physicians shortage and the substantial increase in their workload, the organization of primary care calls during out-of-hours periods has become an everyday challenge. The SALOMON algorithm is an original nurse telephone triage tool allowing to dispatch patients to the best level of care according to their conditions. This study evaluated its reliability and criterion validity in rea-life settings. MethodsIn this 5-year study, out-of-hours primary care calls were dispatched into four categories Emergency Medical Services Intervention (EMSI), Emergency Department referred Consultation (EDRC), Primary Care Physician Home visit (PCPH), and Primary Care Physician Delayed visit (PCPD). We included data of patients' triage category, resources, and destination. Patients included into the primary care cohort were classified undertriaged if they had to be redirected to an emergency department (ED). Patients from the ED cohort were considered overtriaged if they did not require at least three diagnostic resources, one emergency-specific treatment or any hospitalization. In the ED cohort, only patients from the University Hospitals were considered. Results10,207 calls were triaged using the SALOMON tool 19.2% were classified as EMSI, 15.8% as EDRC, 62.8% as PCPH, and 2.2% as PCPD. The triage was appropriate for 85.5% of the calls with a 14.5% overtriage rate. In the PCPD/PCPH cohort, 96.9% of the calls were accurately triaged and 3.1% were undertriaged. SALOMON sensitivity and specificity reached 76.6% and 98.3%, respectively. ConclusionSALOMON algorithm is a valid triage tool that has the potential to improve the organization of out-of-hours primary care work.Lysine demethylase 3B (KDM3B) gene is a histone demethylase, demonstrating specific demethylation of the histone H3 lysine 9. It was detected as a sheep reproductive candidate gene by genome-wide scans, and related studies also showed its significance in female reproductive process. However, rare study researched its polymorphism. Herein, we hypothesized that the polymorphisms of KDM3B gene were associated with sheep reproduction traits. A 7-nt nucleotide sequence variant (rs1088697156) within KDM3B gene was identified in a total of 888 individuals, including the Australian White (AUW) sheep and Lanzhou Fat-tailed (LFT) sheep. II (insertion/insertion) and ID (insertion/deletion) genotypes of 7-nt variant were detected, which were at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) in detected breeds. Association analysis illustrated the 7-nt variant was significantly associated with the litter size, duration of pregnancy, live lamb number, live lamb rate, stillbirth number, stillbirth rate of average and different parity (P  less then  0.05) in AUW sheep. Moreover, 'ID' was the dominant genotype with excellent consistency in reproductive traits. It is instrumental to select individuals with ID genotype for improving the sheep reproduction traits. These findings suggest that the 7-nt variant within KDM3B gene can be used as a candidate marker of reproduction traits for sheep breeding improvement by marker-assisted selection.The reuse of agro-industrial waste has been a recurring issue since the 20th century. With a composition rich in carbohydrates and because of the massive amount of residue produced daily all over the world, corncob became a low-cost and suitable substrate to produce high added-value compounds. Biosurfactants are bioproducts of versatile applications due to their chemical structure with hydrophilic and hydrophobic regions. The current work performed a bibliometric analysis to identify research related to the synthesis of biosurfactants using corncob as substrate. Despite the high availability of corncobs, only nine articles were found in Scopus and Web of Science using different pretreatment processes and microorganisms. After an initial screening, data regarding research organizations, scientific journals, citations, countries, institutions, and keywords were analyzed. Results indicated that corncobs were also used to produce enzymes, adsorbents, activated carbon, and furfural. The presented evaluation updated the status of art, identifying a serious need for more research, especially because of corncob's high potential to provide fermentable sugars and the wide range of variables influencing fermentation processes that still need to be studied. A future association of this low-cost substrate with other methods can result in a promising scenario for technology transference.Personality traits are associated with memory in older adulthood Individuals higher in conscientiousness and openness and lower in neuroticism tend to perform better on memory-recall tasks. We conducted a preregistered study to replicate these associations in a large, multinational cohort and test whether the associations varied by national-level socioeconomic indicators (e.g., per capita gross domestic product). Multilevel modeling was used to analyze data from 71,566 individuals (age M = 67.9 years, SD = 9.5; 57% women) across 26 European countries and Israel. Higher conscientiousness, openness, and extraversion and lower neuroticism were associated with better memory performance, even when analyses accounted for risk factors including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, emotional disorders, and sleeping problems. Consistent with the resource-substitution hypothesis, results showed that higher conscientiousness and agreeableness and lower neuroticism were associated with better memory in countries with lower gross domestic product. The 8-week intervention consisted of weekly discussions and MS-related education; four one-on-one sessions with a MS "mentor;" daily journal to record sleep quality, fatigue level, and physical activity. Outcomes included a modified 5-meter walk test (5MWT), MS Impact Scale (MSIS-29), Exercise Self-Efficacy Scale (EX-ES), Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), MS Self-Efficacy Scale (MS-SES), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and daily physical activity monitoring. Outcomes were assessed at baseline (week 0), post-intervention (week 8), and 8 weeks post intervention (week 16). The participant continued her regular exercise routine independently throughout the study period.Results There were notable improvements in EX-ES, MFIS, PHQ-9, MSIS-29 psychological subscale, sleep quality, and morning fatigue ratings post intervention, some of which were retained at follow up.Conclusion The findings illustrate that an 8-week self-efficacy intervention increased exercise self-efficacy, QOL, and reduced perceived fatigue in a severely disabled individual with progressive MS. Future research should examine self-efficacy interventions in a larger sample size of persons with progressive MS.

BEE has integrated biomedical entities from 16 databases (Ensemble, PharmGKB, Genetic Home Reference, Tarbase, Mirbase, NCI Thesaurus, DisGeNET, Linked life data, UMLS, GSEA MsigDB, Reactome, KEGG, Gene Ontology, HGVD, SNPedia, and dbSNP) based on their gene associations and built a database with their synonyms, descriptions, and links containing individual details. Users can enter the keyword of one or more entities and select the type of entity for which they want to know the relationship for and by using set operations such as union, negation, and intersection, they can navigate the search results more clearly. We believe that BEE will not only be useful for biologists querying for complex associations between entities, but can also be a good starting point for general users searching for biomedical entities. Published speech recognition thresholds (SRTs) were predicted with the framework for auditory discrimination experiments (FADE), which simulates recognition processes, the speech intelligibility index (SII), which exploits frequency-dependent signal-to-noise ratios (SNR), and a modified SII with a hearing-loss-dependent band importance function (PAV). Their attenuation-component-based prediction errors were interpreted as estimates of the distortion component.

Unaided SRTs of 315 hearing-impaired ears measured with the German matrix sentence test in stationary noise.

Overall, the models showed root-mean-square errors (RMSEs) of 7 dB, but for steeply sloping hearing loss FADE and PAV were more accurate (RMSE = 9 dB) than the SII (RMSE = 23 dB). Prediction errors of FADE and PAV increased linearly with the average hearing loss. The consideration of the distortion component estimate significantly improved the accuracy of FADE's and PAV's predictions.
