Oxidative anxiety in oocyte aging and feminine reproduction.
Overweight/obesity in childhood is suggested to increase the risk of hypertension later in life. We aimed to assess whether and how body mass index (BMI) trajectories during 6-18 years of age are associated with hypertension in young adulthood (18-37 years) in the Chinese population.

Based on the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), a total of 1,872 participants who received ≥2 measurements of BMI during 6-18 years and had assessment of blood pressure (BP) in young adulthood were included. BMI trajectories were explored using latent class growth mixture models, and associations between identified trajectories with hypertension in young adulthood were examined by logistic regression analyses.

Five heterogeneous BMI trajectories were identified the low slow-increasing (20.03%), low moderate-increasing (56.14%), low rapid-increasing (17.04%), moderate-increasing (3.63%), and elevated-decreasing (3.15%) groups. Inflammation inhibitor Compared with the low slow-increasing group, another three increasing groups had gradually eldren with high initial BMI may mitigate or reverse the risk. Our findings emphasize the importance of BMI continuous monitoring during early life.
Hypertension is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide. Bank workers are at higher risk of hypertension because of their work sedentary characteristics. However, little is known about the prevalence and determinants of hypertension among this group of population. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the prevalence and associated factors of hypertension among bank employees in metropolitan cities in Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia.

An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted among 368 bank employees. A simple random sampling technique was used to select participants. A pretested self-administered questionnaire and biophysical measurements were employed to collect the data. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression analyses were done to summarize the data and identify factors associated with hypertension, respectively.

The overall prevalence of hypertension among bank employees was 52.4% (95% CI 47.2, 57.7). Increased age (AOR = 1.1, 95% CI 1.03, 1.1ertension among bank workers was very high. Increased age, male sex, overweight and obesity, daily fruit intake, moderate/high physical activity, the experience of stressful events, familial history of hypertension, and poor CVDs knowledge were associated with hypertension. Thus, raising awareness about cardiovascular disorders and behavior change interventions that enhance bank workers' engagement in physical exercise, screening behavior, and a healthy diet is urgently required for this group of population.
To compare the efficacy of air bubble tamponade alone versus air bubble tamponade with internal fluid aspiration for nonplanar Descemet's membrane detachment after clear corneal incision phacoemulsification.

This study is a prospective, intervention, comparative randomised clinical trial, conducted at a private eye centre, Ismailia, Egypt, from March 2019 to March 2020. It contained 30 eyes of 24 patients who had postphacoemulsification nonplanar Descemet's membrane detachment involving the periphery and the central area of the cornea (>50% of the cornea) with corneal oedema. The patients were divided into two groups group A patients with nonplanar DMD affecting the central cornea treated by air bubble tamponade only and group B patients with nonplanar DMD affecting the central cornea treated by air bubble tamponade augmented by internal fluid aspiration.
This trial was registered at www.pactr.org and the identification number for the registry is PACTR202006612296119.

During the 12-month study per internal fluid aspiration demonstrated to be more efficient than air descemetopexy only to treat Descemet's membrane detachment following phacoemulsification. It should be tried before planning other major surgeries in patients with severe Descemet's membrane detachment.
Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) has been regarded as an emerging biomarker of the general population and cardiovascular disease. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the association between RDW and diabetic retinopathy (DR).

This case-control study included 167 patients with DR, 131 patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), and 170 age- and sex-matched healthy controls from April 2014 to May 2019. Demographic data, laboratory parameters, and ocular examinations were collected.

RDW values of the DR group were significantly higher than those of the healthy control (
< 0.001) and DM group (
=0.002). A similar trend was observed when RDW was compared among the 3 groups with respect to age and gender. Logistic regression analysis has shown the OR of RDW was 3.791 (2.33-6.168;
< 0.001) against the control group and was 1.348 (0.997-1.823;
=0.047) against the DM group.

RDW values were significantly elevated in DR patients, and an elevated RDW was associated with an increased incidence of DR in patients with DM.

To evaluate long-term outcomes and complications of sutured scleral-fixated foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation.

Retrospective study.

Patients who underwent sutured scleral-fixated foldable IOL implantation using 10-0 polypropylene suture were followed up for at least 5 years at one Chinese tertiary hospital and two primary hospitals.

52 eyes among 48 patients (35 male and 13 female) were evaluated. The mean age (years) was 50.27 ± 20.08 (range 6 to 81). The mean postoperative follow-up time (months) was 79.70 ± 18.84 (range 60 to 121). The mean best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) improved from 0.83 ± 0.69 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) at baseline to 0.50 ± 0.45 logMAR at the last follow-up visit. There was improved or unchanged BCVA in 44 eyes (84.62%) and reduced BCVA in 8 eyes (15.38%). Mild intraoperative intravitreal hemorrhage was observed in 3 eyes (5.77%). Early postoperative complications included transient elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in 5 eyes (9.62%) and hypotony in 1 eye (1.92%). Secondary epimacular membrane occurred in 5 eyes (9.62%) and retinal detachment (RD; 3 years postsurgery), subconjunctival suture knot exposure (5 years postsurgery), and persistent elevated IOP (in a GRAVES patient) occurred in 1 eye (1.92%) each. No suture erosion or breakage nor IOL dislocation was observed. No visually threatening IOL tilt or decentration was reported in any patient.

Sutured scleral-fixated foldable IOL implantation demonstrated satisfactory long-term outcomes and rare suture-related complications. This technology was safe and did not require complicated equipment and is of considerable interest in the setting of aphakia without adequate capsule support.

Most studies of biological phase separation have focused on droplets that "condense" from solution above a critical concentration, forming so-called "membraneless organelles" suspended in solution. However, membranes are ubiquitous throughout cells, and many biomolecular condensates interact with membrane surfaces. Such membrane-associated phase-separated systems range from clusters of integral or peripheral membrane proteins in the plane of the membrane to free, spherical droplets wetting membrane surfaces to droplets containing small lipid vesicles. In this review, we consider phase-separated liquids that interact with membrane surfaces and we discuss the consequences of those interactions. The physical properties of distinct liquid phases in contact with bilayers can reshape the membrane, and liquid-liquid phase separation can construct membrane-associated protein structures, modulate their function, and organize collections of lipid vesicles dynamically. We summarize the common phenomena that arise in these systems of liquid phases and membranes.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1093/omcr/omaa141.].
Anaphylaxis is common, but can sometimes be fatal. However, data on the epidemiology and characteristics of anaphylaxis are limited. Although 0.9%-14.7% of anaphylactic reactions in children are biphasic, it is unclear what the characteristics of biphasic reaction are and how long patients with this reaction should be observed. The present study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of anaphylaxis and biphasic reactions and identify the characteristics of the latter.

We conducted an observational study of patients who visited the pediatric emergency department (PED) and were hospitalized for anaphylaxis between March 2010 and March 2017.

Of the 264,689 children who visited our PED, 353 (1.3 per 1,000 patient) were hospitalized for anaphylaxis, and six (1.7%) had a biphasic reaction. Of the patients with a biphasic reaction, the median time from initial anaphylaxis to the biphasic reaction was 5.9 (interquartile range [IQR] = 3.3-7.6) hours. Symptoms of the initial episode and the biphasic reaction varied. One (0.3%) of the 353 patients developed a clinically important biphasic reaction that required epinephrine administration.

The rate of biphasic reactions was 1.7%, and that of clinically important biphasic reactions was 0.3%. Patients with anaphylaxis need to be carefully monitored because of the regular occurrence of biphasic reactions.

We report the first case of retro-odontoid pseudotumor with an isolated symptom of C2-C3 dysesthesia triggered by a traumatic event.

An 86-year-old man, who was a wood craftsman for more than 50years, presented to the emergency room with sudden-onset severe posterior head and neck dysesthesia after accidentally falling backward. No neurological impairment of the extremities was noted. Computed tomography revealed a C2-C7 osteophyte formation, mainly in front of the vertebral bodies. Moreover, magnetic resonance imaging showed cervical spinal cord compression by a soft tissue mass posterior to the odontoid process of the axis. Therefore, we diagnosed a cervical spine injury with an isolated symptom of C2-C3 dysesthesia due to a retro-odontoid pseudotumor. He did not undergo surgical intervention and was transferred to a rehabilitation hospital on day 11 for pain control.

Our report could be useful to emergency physicians dealing with similar cases of cervical symptoms following trauma.
