Checking out the antioxidising potentiality of a couple of meals by-products in a topical ointment: stability, in vitro plus vivo assessment.
The past Asian precipitation δ18O (δ18Op) records from stalagmites and other deposits have shown significant orbital-scale variations, but their climatic implications and regional differences are still not fully understood. This study, as the first attempt of a 300-kyr transient stable isotope-enabled simulation, investigated the characteristics and mechanisms of the orbital-scale δ18Op variations in three representative regions of Asia arid Central Asia (CA), monsoonal South Asia (SA) and monsoonal East Asia (EA). The modelling results showed that the variations in the CA, SA and EA annual δ18Op exhibited significant but asynchronous 23-kyr precession cycles. Further analyses revealed that although the precession-induced insolation variation was the ultimate cause of the δ18Op variation in all three regions, the dominant mechanisms and the involved physical processes were distinct among them. For the CA region, the rainy-season (November-March) temperature effect and water vapour transport by the westerly cianding the regional differences and formation mechanisms of the Asian orbital-scale δ18Op variations.Tumor-associated bacteria (TAB) play a critically important role in regulating the microenvironment of a tumor, which consequently greatly deteriorates the therapeutic effects by chemo- and radiotherapy deactivation and, more considerably, leads to substantial immunosuppression. On the contrary, herein we propose a nanocatalytic tumor-immunotherapeutic modality based on the bacteria disintegration by bacteria-specific oxidative damage under magnetic hyperthermia for highly effective immune response activation-promoted tumor regression. A monodispersed and superparamagnetic nanocatalytic medicine modified by arginyl-glycyl-aspartic acid (RGD) and (3-carboxypropyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide (TPP), named as MNP-RGD-TPP herein, has been synthesized, which features selective accumulation at the TAB by the electrostatic affinity, enabling effective TAB disintegration by the nanocatalytic Fenton reaction producing abundant cytotoxic hydroxyl radicals in situ under alternating magnetic field-induced hyperthermia. More importantly, the lipopolysaccharide has been metabolically secreted from the destructed TAB as pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) to M1-polarize tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and promote the maturation of dendritic cells (DCs) for innate immuno-response activation of TAMs, followed by cytotoxic T lymphocytes awakening under the PAMPs presentation by the mature DCs against tumor cells. The integrated innate and adaptive immunity activations based on this TAB-promoted nanocatalytic immunomedicine, instead of magnetic heating-induced hyperthermia or the released Fe2+/Fe3+ Fenton agent, has been found to achieve excellent therapeutic efficacy in an orthotopic colorectal cancer model, demonstrating the great potential of such an integrated immunity strategy in clinical tumor immunotherapy.Inspired by origami/kirigami, three-dimensional (3D) mesostructures assembled via a mechanics-guided approach, with reversible and maneuverable shape-morphing capabilities, have attracted great interest with regard to a broad range of applications. Despite intensive studies, the development of morphable 3D mesostructures with high-order (multi-degree-of-freedom) deformation and untethered high-frequency actuation remains challenging. This work introduces a scheme for a magnetically encoded transferable 3D mesostructure, with polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film as the skeleton and discrete magnetic domains as actuation units, to address this challenge. The high-order deformation, including hierarchical, multidirectional and blending shape morphing, is realized by encoding 3D discrete magnetization profiles on the architecture through ultraviolet curing. Reconfigurable 3D mesostructures with a modest structural modulus (∼3 GPa) enable both high-frequency (∼55 Hz) and large-deformation (∼66.8%) actuation under an alternating magnetic field. Additionally, combined with the shape-retention and adhesion property of PET, these 3D mesostructures can be readily transferred and attached to many solid substrates. On this basis, diverse functional devices, including a switchable colour letter display, liquid mixer, sequential flashlight and biomimetic sliding robot, are demonstrated to offer new perspectives for robotics and microelectronics.
Bone loss is a common feature in several autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Indeed, the high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines seem to enhance bone resorption and to diminish bone formation, thus producing an uncoupling between osteoclast and osteoblast function and favoring the onset of juxtarticular as well as systemic osteoporosis. Many papers underline the high prevalence of osteoporosis in RA, as well as the negative correlation between interleukin 6 (IL-6) serum levels and bone mineral density (BMD). The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of one-year treatment with tocilizumab (TCZ), the first approved IL-6 receptor inhibitor, in reducing bone loss in RA.

We enrolled 18 patients fulfilling 2010 ACR and EULAR criteria for RA from our arthritis outpatient clinic, assessing clinical and biochemical parameters during a 12-month period. The patients received TCZ 8 mg/kg
. every 4 weeks and underwent dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for the measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) at baseline and at the end of study. Serum levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocytes sedimentation rate (ESR), IL-6, serum CrossLaps, osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand (RANK-L) and dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) were measured at baseline, at 6 months and 1 year.

No significant difference in IL-6, RANK-L, DKK-1, OPG and serum CrossLaps levels between baseline, 6 months and 1 year were found. selleck products A significant increase of lumbar spine BMD was evidenced after 1 year of TCZ treatment. No difference in total body and femoral neck BMD was documented the end of the study.

This study suggest the bone-sparing effect of TCZ in RA affected individuals.

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by skin lesions and joint involvement. Salusin-α and salusin-β are two new bioactive molecules. It is reported that salusins may have role in regulation of the immune system and inflammation. The aim of our study was to evaluate the serum salusin-α and salusin-β levels in PsA patients and to establish the possible relationship with the disease features.

Our study included 40 PsA patients who fulfilled the CASPAR criteria and 40 healthy volunteers. Demographic, clinical, laboratory and radiological data and disease activity indices (PASI, BASDAI, BASFI, HAQ) were recorded in all patients. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method was used to measure serum salusin-α and salusin-β levels.

The demographic data were as follows 13 patients (32.5%) were males and 27 (67.5%) were female, mean age was 48.5 years and mean disease duration was 2.4 years. Patients' history was taken and clinical assessment was performed; 20 (50%) pe found elevated serum salusin-α in PsA patients while the serum salusin-β levels were normal. Salusin-α may have a possible role in disease pathogenesis and it may be use as a reliable biomarker in PsA patients. Multicenter prospective studies are needed in this regard.
Pregnancy in patients with autoimmune disorders is associated with an increased risk of adverse outcomes. Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is one of the most common among autoimmune diseases. Presently data regarding the impact of SS on obstetric outcomes are scarce and inconclusive. This study aims to evaluate the impact of SS on maternal-fetal and neonatal outcomes compared with pregnancy outcomes in the general population.

A retrospective case-control study included 26 pregnancies in SS patients and a healthy control group (CG), followed in a Portuguese tertiary center, between 2015 and 2020. Baseline maternal data were collected, and maternal-fetal and neonatal outcomes were evaluated. Statistical analysis used SPSS 25.0, and a
-value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

All pregnancies occurred after the diagnosis of SS, with a mean exposure time between diagnosis and pregnancy of 4.92 ±2.78 years. In the SS group, the incidence of ANA, anti-Ro/SSA, and anti-La/SSB antibodies positivity was 8onitoring and a multidisciplinary approach.
Women with SS had a significantly higher incidence of miscarriage, admission to NICU, and CHB than controls. Congenital heart block was the most critical condition that affects the offspring of mothers with SS. Successful pregnancy in the study group was possible with prenatal monitoring and a multidisciplinary approach.
Femoral neck fracture is one of the most common orthopaedic traumas affecting the elderly population. The standard treatment method is hip hemiarthroplasty and total hip arthroplasty. In hip hemiprostheses surgeons mainly have to reconstruct the femoral offset and limbs' length to obtain the correct gait biomechanics and a satisfactory surgical outcome. The aim of this study is to examine the radiological results of patients after hip hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture and to evaluate the reconstruction of the femoral offset using standard neck angle stems.

A consecutive series of 97 patients diagnosed with femoral neck fracture treated with a hip hemiprosthesis between 2017 and 2021 was identified and met the inclusion criteria. On preoperative images, the neck-shaft angle and the femoral offset on the healthy limb were measured. The femoral offset of the operated limb was measured on the postoperative X-rays.

There was a significant positive moderate correlation between neck-shaft angle and femlasty in patients with coxa vara. The topic of using high offset stems in partial hip arthroplasty has not been thoroughly researched worldwide. However, taking into account the results of our study, during a hip hemiarthroplasty the usage of high offset stems for varus hips should be considered in order to improve the clinical outcome and improve patients' quality of life and functioning.
Patients with rheumatic diseases may require costly treatment and continuous rehabilitation, which Internet collections may finance. We aimed to characterize medical crowdfunding campaigns for the needs of Polish people with rheumatic diseases.

We utilized data from the largest medical crowdfunding platform in Poland, Siepomaga.pl. All collections in the years 2009-2017 for the needs of people with rheumatic diseases were identified.

Twenty-three of 2,656 collections were included (0.9%). Sixty-five and two percent of campaigns collected the financial target. The median amount of collected funds was 3,369 euros. Ten collections concerned conservative treatments (drug and/or rehabilitation), seven financed surgery, five supported the acquisition of medical equipment or its repair, and one aimed at facilitating a diagnostic consultation with a foreign specialist.

Polish patients with rheumatic diseases collect funds via medical crowdfunding, mostly for needs not covered by public healthcare or to obtain better health services in the private sector.
