Assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an increasingly important aspect of standard care in pediatric oncology. Currently, there is a gap in the availability of French questionnaires to assess the quality of life of French-speaking pediatric brain tumor (PBT) patients, which has important implications in the care of this population. The first aim of this study was to translate the original English Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL) brain tumor module version into French. The second aim was to describe the stability, repeatability and convergent validity of the French PedsQL brain tumor module.

A total of 61 PBT patients were included in this study. Among them, 15 children and 20 parents participated in the translation process. As part of the validation study, 48 children and 48 parents answered the PedsQL brain tumor module twice, and the PedsQL generic core scales and the patient-reported outcomes measurement information system (PROMIS-37 pediatric profile v2.0) questionnaire weretrong psychometric properties of the French version of the PedsQL brain tumor module indicate that it is a validate and reliable questionnaire to measure HRQoL in PBT patients. The availability of a French version of the PedsQL brain tumor module supports the wider dissemination of the assessment of HRQOL in PBT patients.

The use of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) has increased significantly over the last decades. With the development of transvenous lead extraction (TLE), procedural success rates also improved; however, data regarding long-term outcomes are still limited. The aim of our study was to analyze the outcomes after TLE, including reimplantation data, all-cause and cause-specific mortality.

Data from consecutive patients undergoing TLE in our institution between 2012 and 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Periprocedural, 30-day, long-term, and cause-specific mortalities were calculated. We examined the original and the revised CIED indications and survival rate of patients with or without reimplantation.

A total of 150 patients (age 66 ± 14 years) with 308 leads (dwelling time 7.8 ± 6.3 years) underwent TLE due to pocket infection (n = 105, 70%), endocarditis (n = 35, 23%), or non-infectious indications (n = 10, 7%). All-cause mortality data were available for all patients, detailed reimplantatints who underwent a reimplantation procedure. Our study underlines the importance of individual reassessment of the original CIED indication, to avoid unnecessary reimplantation.
Although implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) could prevent the sudden death of ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with ischemic heart disease, it could not effectively prevent the recurrence of ventricular tachycardia. Several studies have suggested that catheter ablation may effectively decrease the incidence of ICD events, but relevant dates from randomized controlled trials were limited.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials were performed to evaluate the effect of catheter ablation for the prevention of VT in patients with ischemic heart disease. Random-effects model with inverse-variance weighting method was used to pool odds ratios. Egger method was performed to evaluate whether there was public bias in each outcome.

Four studies enrolling a total of 605 patients were included in the present meta-analysis. Compared with the control group (ICD ± AAD), catheter ablation could significantly reduce the incidence of ICD therapy (OR, 0.49; 95% CI, 0.28 ~ 0.ials with longer follow-up in the future.
His bundle pacing (HBP) improves heart failure (HF) in atrial fibrillation (AF) pacing-dependent patients with a potential for a progressively increased threshold. HBP with right ventricular pacing (RVP) as a backup is always the preferred choice; however, RVP may induce HF. His Purkinje system pacing (HPSP) includes HBP and left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP). LBBAP maintains left ventricular synchrony but has not been proven to be safe over the long term. We assessed the feasibility and safety of both HBP and LBBAP in AF pacing-dependent patients and compared the parameters of both leads at baseline and at the 6-month follow-up.

A total of 16 AF patients in our center, who successfully attempted both HBP and LBBAP, were prospectively enrolled unless only one of these treatment statuses was attained. The electrocardiogram characteristics, leading parameters, echocardiography results, and clinical outcomes were assessed.

Thirteen out of 16 patients achieved both HBP and LBBAP successfully in the samempared with HBP, LBBAP yielded better and more stable parameters but showed comparable effects during the 6-month follow-up.
Both HBP and LBBAP could be attempted successfully in the same AF patients when one of the two modes could be adopted and switched according to the clinical feasibility. Compared with HBP, LBBAP yielded better and more stable parameters but showed comparable effects during the 6-month follow-up.Evidence has validated the prophylactic effects of exercising on different aspects of health. On the opposite side, immobilization may lead to various destructive effects causing neurodegeneration. learn more Here, we investigated the association between exercising and mitochondrial quality for preventing the destructive effects of restraint stress in different rat brain regions. Twenty-four male Wistar rats, were randomized into four groups (n = 6), exercise, stress, exercise + stress, and control. The exercise procedure consisted of running on a rodent treadmill for 8 weeks, and rats in the stress group were immobilized for 6 h. Rats were then euthanized by decapitation and tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzyme activity, antioxidant levels, and mitochondrial biogenesis factors were assessed in the frontal, hippocampus, parietal and temporal regions using spectrophotometer and western blot technique. Based on our results, increased activity of TCA cycle enzymes in the exercised and exercise-stressed groups was detected, except for malate dehydrogenase which was decreased in exercise-stressed group, and fumarase that did not change. Furthermore, the level of antioxidant agents (superoxide dismutase and reduced glutathione), mitochondrial biogenesis factors (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha and mitochondrial transcription factor A), and dynamics markers (Mitofusin 2, dynamic related protein 1, PTEN induced putative kinase-1, and parkin) increased in both mentioned groups. Interestingly our results also revealed that the majority of the mitochondrial factors increased in the frontal and parietal lobes, which may be in relation with the location of motor and sensory areas. Exercise can be used as a prophylactic approach against bioenergetics and mitochondrial dysfunction. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of vaginal fractional CO2 laser therapy for female sexual dysfunction (FSD). A total of 84 women at high risk of sexual dysfunction were randomly divided into two groups. Women in the laser group received vaginal fractional CO2 laser therapy. Others in the Kegel group were advised to participate in Kegel exercise training. Sexual distress and sexual function were evaluated by using the Female Sexual Distress Scale-Revised (FSDS-R) and the Chinese version Female Sexual Function Index (CVFSFI), respectively. Adverse events were recorded during the 12-month follow-up. At the end of the 6th and 12th months, the lubrication scores of the CVFSFI in the laser group (4.55±0.05, 4.58±0.09) were significantly higher than those in the Kegel group (4.19±0.15, 4.20±0.14) (P less then 0.05). The satisfaction scores in the laser group (4.43±0.08) were higher than those in the Kegel group (4.20±0.16) at the end of the 6th month (P less then 0.05). The self-contrast test in the laser group showed significant improvement in lubrication, pain, satisfaction and total scores after CO2 laser therapy (p less then 0.05). These improvements were maintained for 1 year. The improvement of FSDS-R in the laser group (10.0±0.2) was more evident than in the Kegel group (11.1±0.4) at the end of the 12th month. There were no major adverse events reported during laser therapy. Vaginal fractional CO2 laser therapy can effectively improve sexual function without any serious adverse events. It might be an effective and relatively safe treatment option for improving vaginal mucosa status in sexually active women with sexual dysfunction.
To report the long-term outcomes of Descemet stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) for bullous keratopathy secondary to argon laser iridotomy (BK-ALI).

Retrospective chart review.

Forty-five eyes from 41 consecutive patients with BK-ALI who underwent DSAEK from July 2007 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. Best spectacle-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), endothelial cell density (ECD), and any complications were investigated over a 10-year postoperative period.

The mean BCVA improved from 0.80 logMAR before DSAEK to 0.28 logMAR at 6months after DSAEK; the mean values showed an additional slight improvement between 6months and 10years after the surgery (P < .01). The mean ECD decreased from 2864 cells/mm
at baseline to 2269 cells/mm
(20.8% loss) at 6months post-DSAEK, and this decreasing trend continued throughout the 10years after DSAEK (P < .01). The mean ECD was 1148 cells/mm
(59.9% loss) after 5years, and 568 cells/mm
(80.2% loss) after 10years. No graft deaths were observed throughout the 10-year period (5-year follow-up rate 60.0%, 10-year follow-up rate 20.0%).

The 10-year outcomes of DSAEK for BK-ALI were excellent with a high graft survival rate.
The 10-year outcomes of DSAEK for BK-ALI were excellent with a high graft survival rate.Motivation is an important factor in encouraging individuals to attend rehabilitation and underpins many approaches to engagement. The aims of this study were to develop an accurate model able to predict individual intention to engage in outpatient cardiac rehabilitation (CR) programs based on the first stage of the Model of Therapeutic Engagement integrated into a socio-environmental context. The cross-sectional study in the cardiology ward of an Australian hospital included a total of 217 individuals referred to outpatient CR. Through an ordinal logistic regression, the effect of random forest (RF)-selected profile features on individual intention to engage in outpatient CR was explored. The RF based on the conditional inference trees predicted the intention to engage in outpatient CR with high accuracy. The findings highlighted the significant roles of individuals' 'willingness to consider the treatment', 'perceived self-efficacy' and 'perceived need for rehabilitation' in their intention, while the involvement of 'barriers to engagement' and 'demographic and medical factors' was not evident.
