PMMA Bone Bare cement in Interventional Oncology.
A novel ultrasonic vibration-assisted welding (UVAW) process was used to achieve reliable joining of galvanized steel and Mg alloy. The effects of the UVAW technique on the microstructure and mechanical properties of galvanized steel/Mg alloy weldment were studied in detail. The introduction of ultrasonic vibration can ameliorate the wetting of welds and eliminate porosity defects. A refined microstructure of the fusion welding zone with an average grain size of 39 ± 1.7 µm was obtained and attributed to cavitation and acoustic streaming caused by the UVAW process. The grain refinement led to an increase in the microhardness and joining strength of the galvanized steel/Mg alloy weldment. Under the ultrasonic power of 0.9 kW and a current of 65 A, the maximum joining strength of the ultrasound-treated galvanized steel/Mg alloy joint was 251 ± 4.1 MPa, which was a 14.6% increase over the joint without ultrasonic treatment. The aim of this study was to compare the anti-inflammatory effect of wasp venom (WV) from the yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina) with that of bee venom (BV) on BV-2 murine microglial cells. WV was collected from the venom sac, freeze-dried, and used for in vitro examinations. WV and BV were non-toxic to BV-2 cells at concentrations of 160 and 12 µg/mL or lower, respectively. Treatment with WV reduced the secretion of nitric oxide and proinflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha, from BV-2 cells activated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Western blot analysis revealed that WV and BV decreased the expression levels of inflammation markers, including inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. In addition, WV decreased the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), which is a key transcription factor in the regulation of cellular inflammatory response. Cumulatively, the results demonstrated that WV inhibited LPS-induced neuroinflammation in microglial cells by suppressing the NF-κB-mediated signaling pathway, which warrants further studies to confirm its therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases. As an evolutionarily conserved pathway, mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades function as the key signal transducers that convey information by protein phosphorylation. Here we identified PlMAPK2 as one of 14 predicted MAPKs encoding genes in the plant pathogenic oomycete Peronophythora litchii. PlMAPK2 is conserved in P.litchii and Phytophthora species. We found that PlMAPK2 was up-regulated in sporangium, zoospore, cyst, cyst germination and early stage of infection. We generated PlMAPK2 knockout mutants using the CRISPR/Cas9 method. Compared with wild-type strain, the PlMAPK2 mutants showed no significant difference in vegetative growth, oospore production and sensitivity to various abiotic stresses. However, the sporangium release was severely impaired. We further found that the cleavage of the cytoplasm into uninucleate zoospores was disrupted in the PlMAPK2 mutants, and this developmental phenotype was accompanied by reduction in the transcription levels of PlMAD1 and PlMYB1 genes. Meanwhile, the PlMAPK2 mutants exhibited lower laccase activity and reduced virulence to lychee leaves. Overall, this study identified a MAPK that is critical for zoosporogenesis by regulating the sporangial cleavage and pathogenicity of P.litchii, likely by regulating laccase activity.Retinal lipofuscin which accumulates with age in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is subjected to daily exposures to high fluxes of visible light and exhibits potent photosensitising properties; however, the molecules responsible for its photoreactivity remain unknown. Here, we demonstrate that autooxidation of docosahexaenoate (DHE) leads to the formation of products absorbing, in addition to UVB and UVA light, also visible light. The products of DHE oxidation exhibit potent photosensitising properties similar to photosensitising properties of lipofuscin, including generation of an excited triplet state with similar characteristics as the lipofuscin triplet state, and photosensitised formation of singlet oxygen and superoxide. The quantum yields of singlet oxygen and superoxide generation by oxidised DHE photoexcited with visible light are 2.4- and 3.6-fold higher, respectively, than for lipofuscin, which is consistent with the fact that lipofuscin contains some chromophores which do contribute to the absorption of light but not so much to its photosensitising properties. Importantly, the wavelength dependence of photooxidation induced by DHE oxidation products normalised to equal numbers of incident photons is also similar to that of lipofuscin-it steeply increases with decreasing wavelength. Altogether, our results demonstrate that products of DHE oxidation include potent photosensitiser(s) which are likely to contribute to lipofuscin photoreactivity.Fungal keratitis is difficult to treat, especially Fusarium keratitis. In vitro studies show that chlorhexidine could be an interesting option as monotherapy. We describe a case series of four patients (four eyes) with Fusarium keratitis at Radboud University Medical Center (Nijmegen, the Netherlands). The patients were treated with chlorhexidine 0.02% eye drops. The in vitro activity of eight antifungals and chlorhexidine was determined according to the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) broth microdilution method. We also reviewed the literature on the use of chlorhexidine in the treatment of fungal keratitis. Topical chlorhexidine was well tolerated, and all patients showed complete resolution of the keratitis upon treatment with chlorhexidine. A PubMed search of the available literature was conducted (last search 8 March 2020) and yielded two randomized clinical trials (natamycin versus chlorhexidine) and one case report addressing the treatment of fungal keratitis with chlorhexidine. Chlorhexidine was found to be safe with regard to toxicity and to be superior to natamycin in the clinical trials. Chlorhexidine showed in vitro fungicidal activity against Fusarium and clinical effectiveness in our cases, supporting further clinical evaluation. Advantages of chlorhexidine are its topical application, its general availability, its low costs, its broad-spectrum activity, and its fungicidal mechanism of action at low concentrations.Human activity recognition (HAR) aims to recognize the actions of the human body through a series of observations and environmental conditions. The analysis of human activities has drawn the attention of the research community in the last two decades due to its widespread applications, diverse nature of activities, and recording infrastructure. Lately, one of the most challenging applications in this framework is to recognize the human body actions using unobtrusive wearable motion sensors. Since the human activities of daily life (e.g., cooking, eating) comprises several repetitive and circumstantial short sequences of actions (e.g., moving arm), it is quite difficult to directly use the sensory data for recognition because the multiple sequences of the same activity data may have large diversity. However, a similarity can be observed in the temporal occurrence of the atomic actions. Therefore, this paper presents a two-level hierarchical method to recognize human activities using a set of wearable sensors. oposed technique and their comparison with the existing state-of-the-art techniques confirm its effectiveness. In the last two decades, surgical methods for axillary staging in breast cancer patients have become less extensive, and full axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is confined to selected patients. In initially node-positive patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy, however, the optimal management remains unclear. Current guidelines vary widely, endorsing different strategies. We performed a literature review on axillary staging strategies and their place in international recommendations. This overview defines knowledge gaps associated with specific procedures, summarizes currently ongoing clinical trials that address these unsolved issues, and provides the rationale for further research. While some guidelines have already implemented surgical de-escalation, replacing ALND with, e.g., sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) or targeted axillary dissection (TAD) in cN+ patients converting to clinical node negativity, others recommend ALND. BPTES mw Numerous techniques are in use for tagging lymph node metastasis, but many questions regarding the marking technique, i.e., the optimal time for marker placement and the number of marked nodes, remain unanswered. The optimal number of SLNs to be excised also remains a matter of debate. Data on oncological safety and quality of life following different staging procedures are lacking. These results provide the rationale for the multinational prospective cohort study AXSANA initiated by EUBREAST, which started enrollment in June 2020 and aims at recruiting 3000 patients in 20 countries (NCT04373655; Funded by AGO-B, Claudia von Schilling Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, AWOgyn, EndoMag, Mammotome, and MeritMedical). This paper proposes a new damage identification approach for beam structures with stochastic parameters based on uncertain static measurement data. This new approach considers not only the static measurement errors, but also the modelling error of the initial beam structures as random quantities, and can also address static damage identification problems with relatively large uncertainties. First, the stochastic damage identification equations with respect to the damage indexes were established. On this basis, a new homotopy analysis algorithm was used to solve the stochastic damage identification equations. During the process of solution, a static condensation technique and a L1 regularization method were employed to address the limited measurement data and ill-posed problems, respectively. Furthermore, the definition of damage probability index is presented to evaluate the possibility of existing damages. The results of two numerical examples show that the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed damage identification approach are good. In comparison to the first-order perturbation method, the proposed method can ensure better accuracy in damage identification with relatively large measurement errors and modelling error. Finally, according to the static tests of a simply supported concrete beam, the proposed method successfully identified the damage of the beam. The evaluation of the presence of mycotoxins in different matrices is achieved through different analytical tools (including quantitative or qualitative determinations) [...].We present an optimized flutter-driven triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) for wind energy harvesting. The vibration and power generation characteristics of this TENG are investigated in detail, and a low cut-in wind speed of 3.4 m/s is achieved. It is found that the air speed, the thickness and length of the membrane, and the distance between the electrode plates mainly determine the PTFE membrane's vibration behavior and the performance of TENG. With the optimized value of the thickness and length of the membrane and the distance of the electrode plates, the peak open-circuit voltage and output power of TENG reach 297 V and 0.46 mW at a wind speed of 10 m/s. The energy generated by TENG can directly light up dozens of LEDs and keep a digital watch running continuously by charging a capacitor of 100 μF at a wind speed of 8 m/s.
