Individuals who return from armed groups present with a history of traumatic events including perpetration. Subsequent severe mental stress and heightened levels of reactive and appetitive aggression may persist and if left untreated, frequently impede peacebuilding and societal stability. In this study, we tested a revised adaptation of Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET; Schauer et al., 2011) for Forensic Offender Rehabilitation (FORNET) implemented in a sample of male former combatants in war-torn regions of the DR Congo.
We applied a longitudinal parallel-group randomized controlled design with treatment as usual (TAU) as control condition and 3-5 and 6-9 months follow-up assessments. The effect of treatment over time on clinical and social outcomes was tested with GLMMs; appetitive aggression and current violent behavior (CVB) were specified as primary and posttraumatic stress as secondary outcomes.

= .90) and posttraumnce (IPV), and community violence. We used a qualitative methodology and interviewed a religiously, ethnically, and geographically diverse sample of 198 highly religious families (N = 476). Family-level data were collected by using multiple informants through joint interviews with family members. Semistructured interviews regarding how religion influenced family life were conducted in the participants' homes. Interview transcripts were analyzed using qualitative data analysis software, team-based coding, and grounded theory procedures. Findings included four themes (1) Pride as an obstacle to relational well-being, (2) the influence of religious beliefs on humility, (3) the influence of religious practices on humility, and (4) humility in practice. Together, these themes suggest that humility can be both grounding and empowering for individuals and relationships. Implications and future directions are discussed. In the present study, we observed persons with Type 2 diabetes and their romantic partners discuss how to improve diabetes management; afterward, we measured positive affect, negative affect, and discussion evaluations. We also measured mood and self-care behavior over the next 2 weeks. Couples (n = 207) were recruited from the community and varied in education, income, and race. Half of patients were White (53%), and half were Black (47%). Results showed that observed patient warmth was related to a more positive evaluation of the discussion, more postdiscussion positive affect, less postdiscussion negative affect, and better 2-week daily happy mood; observed patient negativity was related to less postdiscussion progress, a more negative evaluation of the discussion, less postdiscussion positive affect, and poorer 2-week dietary adherence; and observed patient distress was related to a more negative discussion evaluation, more postdiscussion negative affect, and worse mood over the next 2 weeks. Two of the findings were moderated by race, in the direction of links being stronger for Black than White patients. Partner warmth was rarely related to outcomes, but partner negativity was related to patients' poorer discussion evaluation, patient's lower happy mood and higher angry mood over the next 2 weeks, and patient's poorer 2-week dietary adherence. Future research on couple interactions should attend to important contextual variables such as race, ethnicity, income, and social status. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved).We conducted global genome mining of 162,672 bacterial genomes and identified 829 cyclodipeptide (CDP) biosynthesis gene clusters (BGC) containing a cytochrome P450 gene. Heterologous expression of BGC from Saccharopolyspora hirsuta DSM 44795 led to the identification of two novel crownlike CDPs, cyctetryptomycin A (4) and B (5), which possess unprecedented complex macrocycle and show neuroprotective activity. The two cytochrome P450s found in the BGC catalyze sequential reactions leading to the cyclization of diketopiperazine dimers.Four novel stilbene dimers (1-4), together with their biosynthetically related stilbene monomers (5 and 6), were isolated from the leaves of Cajanus cajan. Their structures with absolute configurations were determined by comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data and electronic circular dichroism calculations. Compounds 1 and 2 are two novel dimeric stilbenes with an unusual coupling pattern that resulted in a rare configurationally stable Csp2-Csp3 chiral axis with both point and axial chirality in their molecules. Due to their unique inherent structural features, both of them naturally occur as equilibrating mixtures of unequally populated atropo-diastereomers and their respective enantiomers. Compounds 3 and 4 are two pairs of novel dimeric stilbene atropisomers featuring a rotationally hindered central biaryl axis. Notably, 3 contains a rare arylbenzoquinone core and 4 is a symmetric dimer with a C2 symmetry axis. The hypothetical biosynthetic pathway of 1-4 was also proposed herein. All the new compounds exhibited significant protein tyrosine phosphatase-1B (PTP1B) inhibition effects. This study compared the different N-glycan purification strategies, including filter-aided sample preparation, de-N-glycosylated protein precipitation, and trypsin digestion followed by reversed phase-based solid-phase extraction, and derivatization approaches, such as solid-phase permethylation, reductive amination, and reduction. With the comparative analysis, an optimized solid-phase permethylation (OSPP) workflow was developed for mass spectrometric N-glycomics, showing simplified analysis for N-glycan compositions and high yields using etanercept. The N-glycan samples released from trastuzumab and adalimumab were utilized to test OSPP to obtain their N-glycan profiles using mass spectrometry. Based on different standard procedures across laboratories, this study provides the reference for analysts to select an appropriate N-glycan preparation method with their research purposes.One of the unsolved problems of dynamics in supercooled liquids are the differences in spectral shape of the structural relaxation observed among different methods and substances, and a possible generic line shape has long been debated. The difference of surface structures such as surface hydration structure would impact the adsorption of biomolecules on the surface, thus causing different varieties of cell adhesion and cell growth. In this study, the influence on surface hydration and surface cell adhesion of OEG self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) modified with cysteine showing different chirality are explored. The water structure at the interfaces of OEG/water in different conditions was probed with sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS). The results show that the interfacial water structure can change significantly with either d-cysteine or l-cysteine modification on OEG. Water molecules are more ordered at the OEG/water interface under the d-cysteine modification on OEG SAMs, which improves the protein adsorption resistance of the surface. In contrast, l-cysteine modification would make the water less ordered at the OEG/protein solution interface and enhance the protein adsorption. Additionally, optical micrographs indicate that l-cysteine can significantly promote the OEG SAMs cell adhesion and growth, while d-cysteine exhibits an inhibitory effect, which is consistent with the results of SFG-VS experiments.Plasmonic Au nanoparticles (NPs) have been commonly used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of Cu2O. Till now, core-shell Au NP@Cu2O composites have been reported in previous studies. Yet, these Au@Cu2O composites only exhibit visible light response. Other special Au nanostructures, such as Au nanorods (NRs) or Au nanobipyramids (NBPs), which possess near-infrared light absorption, were rarely used to endow the near-infrared light response for Cu2O. In this work, for the first time, we used Au NPs, Au NRs, and Au NBPs and employed a handy and universal method to synthesize a series of yolk-shelled Au@Cu2O composites. The results showed that the yolk-shelled Au@Cu2O composites had much higher photocatalytic activity than their solid-shelled ones and pure Cu2O. More importantly, yolk-shelled Au NR@Cu2O and Au NBP@Cu2O composites indeed presented excellent near-infrared light-driven photocatalytic activity, which were impossible for Au NP@Cu2O and pure Cu2O. This outstanding performance for yolk-shelled Au NR@Cu2O and Au NBP@Cu2O could be attributed to the transfer of abundant hot electrons from Au NRs or Au NBPs to Cu2O, and the timely utilization of hot holes on Au through the rich pore channels on their yolk-shelled structure. Furthermore, yolk-shelled Au@Cu2O also showed better stability than pure Cu2O, owing to the migration of the oxidizing holes from Cu2O to Au driven by the built-in electric field. This work may give a guide to fabricate controllable and effective photocatalysts based on plasmonic metals and semiconductors with full solar light-driven photocatalytic activities in the future.
