1. Wooden Turbine Towers
Wind turbines are essential for clean energy generation. Engineers in Sweden have developed the world’s tallest wooden wind turbine, replacing traditional steel construction. The tower stands 105 meters high and is constructed using laminated veneer lumber (LVL). Wood’s lighter weight allows taller turbines with fewer materials, reducing environmental impact. Benefits of Renewable Energy
Reduced Global Warming Emissions: Renewable energy sources (wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric) produce minimal global warming emissions. For instance, wind turbines emit only 0.02 to 0.04 pounds of CO₂ equivalent per kilowatt-hour (CO₂E/kWh) on a life-cycle basis, compared to coal’s 1.4 to 3.6 pounds of CO₂E/kWh 3. History: Awarded to Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) in 2009. Construction began in 2012, with Unit 1 operational in 2020 and all four units now operational 7.
