To evaluate the effect of a porous suture containing transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) on the sustained release of TGF-β1 and rotator cuff healing in a rat model.

Controlled laboratory study.

A porous suture was developed, and its tensile strength was measured. TGF-β1 was delivered using the porous suture, and a TGF-β1 release test and human fibroblast proliferation assay were performed. For the animal experiment, 30 rats were randomly allocated into 3 groups (n = 10 each). A bilateral supraspinatus tendon tear was made in all the rats, and repair was performed. Group 1 received repair only; group 2, repair and a single injection of TGF-β1; and group 3, repair using the porous suture containing TGF-β1. Eight weeks after repair, biomechanical and histological analyses were performed.

The porous suture was successfully developed with mechanical properties compatible with the conventional suture, and the sustained releaseter rotator cuff repair.

To establish the current knowledge of sport-related concussion (SRC) management of clinicians in emergency departments in the North West of England.

A cross-sectional, multi-center study design was used and included emergency department clinicians (EDCs) across 15 centers in the North West of England. A 22-question survey was issued with questions focused on the 5th International Conference on Concussion Consensus Statement. Absolute and percentages were presented, and comparisons in knowledge of guidelines and confidence between EDCs were made using the Kruskal-Wallis test.

Of an estimated 300 EDCs, 111 (37%) responded. Thirty (27%) were aware of the guidelines, whilst 63 (57%) had heard of a graduated return-to-sport protocol. Physical rest was advised by 106 (95%) respondents, with 68 (61%) advising cognitive rest and 47 (42%) providing written advice. There was no difference (
>.05) in awareness of SRC guidelines or confidence between clinician grade, with most receiving no SRC training.

Little research has focused, however, on personal factors potentially helping individuals cope with COVID-related difficulties. This study investigates the relations between character strengths, mental health, and post-traumatic growth.

General mental health was worse at T2 than at T1. Structural equation modelling showed that character, as a whole, had a significant direct effect on post-traumatic growth and mental health at T2, and an indirect effect mediated by post-traumatic growth. Furthermore, regression analyses evidenced that the virtue of transcendence was uniquely related to mental health at T2, while humanity was specifically associated with post-traumatic growth (after accounting for the other virtues).

Sugar dating is described by these websites as arrangements based on an exchange of financial or other forms of support for intimacy and companionship. The framing of sugar dating as something in between a business transaction and mutually enjoyable dating serves as the point of departure of this article, which draws on semi-structured interviews and a survey questionnaire with "sugar daddies" engaged in heterosexual sugar dating in Sweden. We examined how the tension between economic instrumentality and the ideal of mutual enjoyment is played out in "sugar daddies'" accounts of their sugar dating experiences. We demonstrate that the participants desire encounters with "sugar babies" to be based on both sexual and relational mutuality, i.e., they want the women to enjoy being with them beyond the economic rewards. We show that the men's use of economic incentives to gain access to "sugar babies" stands in a relationship of tension with their desire for interactions to be based on mutuality. However, through various mechanisms they still manage to reap the fruits of the experience of mutuality offered in sugar dating encounters.
We conducted surveillance for work-related asthma (WRA) in Washington State to identify the industry sectors and asthma exposures most commonly affecting injured workers and in need of prevention activities.

Using workers' compensation data as the primary data source, valid cases were classified as work-aggravated asthma (WAA) or new onset asthma that includes occupational asthma (OA) and reactive airways dysfunction syndrome (RADS). The source of exposure that caused the worker's asthma, their industry and occupation were determined.

There were 784 valid work-related asthma cases identified for the period 2009-2016, WAA (
 = 529) was most common followed by occupational asthma (
 = 127) and RADS (
 = 12). The Health Care and Social Assistance industry had the highest number of cases (
 = 170) with 82% classified as WAA. The highest overall proportions of new onset asthma are occurring in Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Hunting (33% of work related asthma cases), Manufacturing (31%) and Construction (30%). The leading substances associated with new onset asthma across all industries include hop plant dust, wood and cedar dust, mineral and inorganic dust, mold, and cleaning materials. We describe ten cases of cannabis-associated asthma including seven from workers in the legalized cannabis industry, four of whom had OA.
