Anthocyanins (AN), natural compounds daily consumed by humans, have outstanding therapeutical potential if administered topically in melanoma pathology. In solution, it was observed that the fluorescence emission increased by 39% (CY@DPBA), and by 34% (AE@DPBA), which concludes that AN form fluorescent complexes with DPBA (CY@DPBA and AE@DPBA). In addition, using NMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) spectroscopy, and HRMS (high-resolution mass spectrometry) analysis, the structure of the CY@DPBA complex was efficiently elucidated. In-vitro experiments showed that the complexes formed after the treatment proved to be non-toxic on B16-F10 cells. The sub-cellular visualization of all AN was monitored by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry, demonstrating detectable signals of the non-metabolized CY and glycosylated CY inside melanoma cells. Concerns regarding police brutality and violence against people of color in the U.S. remain high in the current sociohistorical moment in which the recent murder of George Floyd by a police officer is highly salient. Although the prevalence and consequences of such experiences for Black and Latina/x/o adults have been documented in the literature, there is a limited understanding of youths' negative experiences with police.

Utilizing a sample of 1378 adolescents (M
=16.16 years, SD=1.12), the current study examined Black, Latina/x/o, and White youths' self-reports of ethnic-racial police discrimination and linked these experiences to youths' academic engagement and academic grades.

Black and Latina/x/o youth reported significantly greater experiences of ethnic-racial police discrimination than their White counterparts; nearly 24% of Black youth and 20% of Latina/x/o youth experienced at least one instance of ethnic-racial police discrimination in the last year, compared to only 2.9% of White youth. Differences by gender emerged among Latina/x/o youth. Police discrimination was associated with lower academic engagement and lower academic grades among all youth.

Findings demonstrate that the greater prevalence of ethnic-racial police discrimination in the lives of youth of color, relative to their White counterparts, mirroring the experiences of adults. Furthermore, coupled with the significant links with academic adjustment, the current findings demonstrate an additional factor that is likely implicated in the Black and Latina/x/o vs. White academic achievement gap.

Numerous life, peer, and school-related factors have been found to be associated with non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among adolescents; however, most studies have not explored the possible reciprocal nature of these associations. The aim of the current study was to examine bidirectional and longitudinal associations between NSSI and several life, peer, and school-related factors (i.e., stressful life events, peer relationships, academic achievement, and attitudes towards school).

Community-based adolescents completed questionnaires assessing the variables of interest at three time points; age 12 (T1; 55.09% girls), age 13 (T2; 56.95% girls), and ages 14-15 (T3; 57.41% girls). In total, 529 adolescents provided complete data across all three-time points.

Analyses showed a bidirectional association between NSSI and both attitudes towards school and stressful life events. Specifically, stressful life events at T2 predicted engagement in NSSI at T3, and NSSI at T2 predicted increased risk of stressful life events at T3. Similarly, having negative attitudes towards school predicted NSSI at T2, which, in turn, predicted negative attitudes towards school at T3. Further, academic achievement at T1 was negatively associated with NSSI at T2. Peer relationships were neither a predictor nor a consequence of NSSI.

Our results suggest that NSSI can be both a predictor and a consequence of various life, and school factors. Focus on these factors in prevention and intervention efforts for NSSI among adolescents may be warranted.

Focus on these factors in prevention and intervention efforts for NSSI among adolescents may be warranted.Background Outcomes after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for large vessel occlusion (LVO) were compared between stroke patients anticoagulated with direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) and those anticoagulated with warfarin.
From data for 2399 LVO stroke patients in a prospective, multicenter registry, patients with prior oral anticoagulation who underwent MT were analyzed. Angiographic outcomes included successful recanalization (modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction 2b/3). Clinical outcomes included modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 0-2 at 3months and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage.

A total of 235 patients (95 women, median age 78 [interquartile range, 72-84] years) were included. Prescribed anticoagulants were DOACs in 61 patients and warfarin in 174 patients. Of patients on warfarin, 135 (77.6%) had a non-therapeutic therapy (international normalized ration [INR] ≤1.7). Patients on therapeutic warfarin (INR >1.7) had younger age and shorter onset to hospital arrival time than those on non-therapeutic warfarin and DOACs. The achievement of successful recanalization in warfarin groups was similar to the DOACs group, with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) for therapeutic warfarin versus DOACs of 1.14 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.27-4.89) and non-therapeutic warfarin versus DOACs of 0.92 (95% CI, 0.39-2.20), respectively. The frequency of mRS score 0-2 at 3months in the therapeutic (aOR, 2.63; 95% CI, 0.86-7.98) and non-therapeutic warfarin (aOR, 1.77; 95% CI, 0.76-4.09) groups were similar to those in the DOACs group. There was no significant difference in symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage between groups.

To describe prevalence rates of bowel, bladder, and sudomotor symptoms in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in relation to disease onset and progression. Treatment strategies and efficacies were also assessed.

A pilot patient cohort revealed increased incidences of bowel/bladder and sudomotor symptoms. Questionnaires derived from formal bowel and bladder survey instruments were administered to a second cohort of patients during multidisciplinary ALS clinic visits.

The pilot cohort of 30 patients reported an increase in bowel symptoms from 17% prior to 70% after the diagnosis of ALS, and an increase in urinary symptoms from 24% to 76%. In the second cohort of 66 patients an increase in constipation from 33% prior to 64.7% after the diagnosis of ALS was reported. 25.4% of patients reported bowel urgency initially, which increased to 33.3% over time. Constipation was most commonly treated with docusate, dietary fiber supplementation, fluid/exercise, and polyethylene glycol. In the second cohort the prevalence of overactive bladder symptoms increased from 3.1% prior to 25.0% after the diagnosis of ALS. Urinary symptoms are most commonly treated with catheters and oxybutynin. A sudomotor survey found stinging eyes in 17.2% of patients, oily/greasy skin in 14.1% of patients, and flaking of the skin in 29.7% of patients.
