The implementation of public health measures to control the current COVID-19 pandemic (such as wider lockdowns, overseas travel restrictions and physical distancing) is likely to have affected the spread of other notifiable diseases. This is a descriptive report of communicable disease surveillance in Central Queensland (CQ) for six months (1 April to 30 September 2020) after the introduction of physical distancing and wider lockdown measures in Queensland. The counts of notifiable communicable diseases in CQ in the six months were observed and compared with the average for the same months during the years 2015 to 2019. During the study's six months, there were notable decreases in notifications of most vaccine-preventable diseases such as influenza, pertussis and rotavirus. Conversely, notifications increased for disease groups such as blood-borne viruses, sexually transmitted infections and vector-borne diseases. There were no reported notifications for dengue fever and malaria which are mostly overseas as reported to the CQPHU, mostly VPDs, when compared with the same months for each of 2015 to 2019 and for the 5-year average (2015-2019) for those months (Table 1). However, increases in notifications for April-September 2020 were observed in a greater number of other notifiable disease groups.

This is a retrospective cohort study of children who had sepsis coexisting along with Dengue fever. link3 One hundred and twenty-four patients aged between three months and eighteen years admitted in two private hospitals in North India were studied. Thirteen children had concurrent sepsis (13/124, 10.4%). Children between 0 and five years (7/13, 53.8%, p = 0.019), having longer hospital stay (7/13, 53.8%, p = 0.00029), shock (10/13, 76.9%, p = 0.00001), and increased PCT (13/13, 100%, p less then 0.001) were some indicators of sepsis in these patients. Blood cultures were positive in five children. CRCD2 It is a matter of speculation as to why these patients of dengue are more susceptible to sepsis. Increased vascular permeability may increase the chances of bacterial contamination. link2 Antibiotics should not be used routinely in dengue fever. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has dramatically hit all Europe and Northern Italy in particular. The reallocation of medical resources has caused a sharp reduction in the activity of many medical disciplines, including urology. The restricted availability of resources is expected to cause a delay in the treatment of urological cancers and to negatively influence the clinical history of many cancer patients. In this study, we describe COVID-19 impact on uro-oncological management in Piedmont/Valle d'Aosta, estimating its future impact.
We performed an online survey in 12 urological centers, belonging to the Oncological Network of Piedmont/Valle d'Aosta, to estimate the impact of COVID-19 emergency on their practice. On this basis, we then estimated the medical working capacity needed to absorb all postponed uro-oncological procedures.
Most centers (77%) declared to be "much"/"very much" affected by COVID-19 emergency. If uro-oncological consultations for newly diagnosed cancers were often maintained, follow-up consultations were more than halved or even suspended in around two out of three centers. In-office and day-hospital procedures were generally only mildly reduced, whereas major uro-oncological procedures were more than halved or even suspended in 60% of centers. To clear waiting list backlog, the urological working capacity should dramatically increase in the next months; delays greater than 1 month are expected for more than 50% of uro-oncological procedures.

CRCD2 This bibliometric analysis aims to identify the most influential papers that inform current clinical practice and likely shape future research. The Thompson Reuters Web of Science citation database was interrogated using search terms to cover the breadth of erectile dysfunction. link3 Results were ranked according to citation number with country of origin, journal, topic, year of publication, author and institution also analysed. The search criteria matched 12,570 manuscripts. The top 100 highest citation ranged from 3013 to 161 (median 229.5). The most cited manuscript reports the prevalence and risk factors of ED within the Massachusetts Male Aging Study. The most manuscripts were published by the Journal of Urology (n = 15) with a total of 7913 citations. Institutions from the USA contributed the majority (n = 55) with the UK (n = 14) second. The most common theme represented was epidemiology (n = 46) followed by treatment (n = 27). This analysis provides a list of the most influential manuscripts within ED and illustrates what can be considered a 'highly citable' paper. The most influential papers in Erectile Dysfunction remain seminal works from the end of the last century. link2 The most cited manuscript has been cited 194 times in the last 17 months showing its continued value. We aimed to investigate the diagnostic value of the vaginal microecology, serum miR-18a, and programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) for human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive cervical cancer.
Eighty-four patients with HPV-positive cervical cancer were assigned to the observation group, 107 HPV-positive patients without cervical cancer were assigned to the positive group, and 191 healthy women were assigned to the control group. T cells were compared among the 3 groups. The observation group was further divided into subgroups according to patients' characteristics for comparison. The diagnostic value of miR-18a and PD-L1 for HPV-positive cervical cancer was investigated.
Women in the control group had better vaginal microecology and lower levels of miR-18a and PD-L1 than those in the observation and the positive groups (all P < 0.05). link3 Compared with the positive group, the observation group had similar vaginal microecology (all P > 0.05) but higher levels of miR-18a and PD-L1 (all P < 0.05). Moreover, the patients at stage III had higher levels of miR-18a and PD-L1 than those at stage I and II (all P < 0.05). link2 The values of area under the curve for miR-18a and PD-L1 in the diagnosis of HPV-positive cervical cancer were over 0.8 (all P < 0.001).

Up to now, only two disease-modifying agents, riluzole and edaravone, are approved by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for ALS treatment, which only modestly improves survival and disease progression. Major challenging issues to find an effective therapy are heterogeneity in the pathogenesis and genetic variability of ALS. As such, stem cell therapy has been recently a focus of both preclinical and clinical investigations of ALS. This is because stem cells have multifaceted features that can potentially target multiple pathogenic mechanisms in ALS even though its underlying mechanisms are not completely elucidated. Methods & Results Here, we will have an overview of stem cell therapy in ALS, including their therapeutic mechanisms, the results of recent clinical trials as well as ongoing clinical trials.
