Increasing evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection may lead to severe and multi-site vascular involvement. Our study aimed at assessing the frequency of vascular and extravascular events' distribution in a retrospective cohort of 42 COVID-19 patients.

Patients were evaluated by whole-body CT angiography between March 16 and April 30, 2020. Twenty-three out of the 42 patients evaluated were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Vascular and extravascular findings were categorized into "relevant" or "other/incidental," first referring to the need for immediate patient care and management. Student T-test, Mann-Whitney U test, or Fisher exact test was used to compare study groups, where appropriate.

Relevant vascular events were recorded in 71.4% of cases (n = 30). Pulmonary embolism was the most frequent in both ICU and non-ICU cases (56.5% vs. 10.5%, p = 0.002). Ischemic infarctions at several sites such as the gut, spleen, liver, brain, and kidney were detected (n = 20), with multi-site involvemchnic arterial aneurysms were reported in 21.4% of the whole population.
• Relevant vascular events were recorded in 71.4% of the study population, with pulmonary embolism being the most frequent event in ICU and non-ICU cases. • Apart from the lung, other organs such as the gut, spleen, liver, brain, and kidneys were involved with episodes of ischemic infarction. Systemic venous and arterial thrombosis occurred in 30.9% and 7.1% of cases, respectively, with venous events being significantly higher in ICU patients (p = 0.002). click here • Among incidental findings, small-sized splanchnic arterial aneurysms were reported in 21.4% of the whole population.
To develop a preoperative MRI-based radiomic-clinical nomogram for prediction of residual disease (RD) in patients with advanced high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC).

In total, 217 patients with advanced HGSOC were enrolled from January 2014 to June 2019 and randomly divided into a training set (n = 160) and a validation set (n = 57). Finally, 841 radiomic features were extracted from each tumor on T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and contrast-enhanced T1-weighted imaging (CE-T1WI) sequence, respectively. We used two fusion methods, the maximal volume of interest (MV) and the maximal feature value (MF), to fuse the radiomic features of bilateral tumors, so that patients with bilateral tumors have the same kind of radiomic features as patients with unilateral tumors. The radiomic signatures were constructed by using mRMR method and LASSO classifier. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to develop a radiomic-clinical nomogram incorporating radiomic signature and conventional clinico-radiologgram showed a favorable prediction ability with an AUC of 0.803.
• MRI-based radiomic-clinical nomogram is feasible to noninvasively predict residual disease in patients with advanced HGSOC. • The radiomic signature based on MF showed significantly better prediction performance than that based on MV. • The radiomic-clinical nomogram showed a favorable prediction ability with an AUC of 0.803.
Although laryngohyoid fracture indicates the applied neck pressure and is an important finding in hanging individuals, the reported rate varies widely and its true incidence remains controversial. We used computed tomography (CT) studies to investigate the incidence of laryngohyoid fracture in hanging individuals and identify factors contributing to such fractures.

Considered for inclusion in this study were 107 attempted or successful hanging individuals subjected to CT studies between 2005 and 2019. After excluding 19 whose images were inadequate for evaluation, 88 subjects were included. Body suspension was complete in 20, partial in 49, and unknown in 19; 54 (61.4%) individuals died. Two radiologists performed image analysis and recorded the presence and site of laryngohyoid fractures. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used for factor analysis of laryngohyoid fractures; it included the gender, the age (< or ≧ 40 years), the type of suspension (complete or incomplete), and the outcome (death or survival).

Of the 88 subjects, 35 (39.8%) presented with laryngohyoid fractures on CT images; the superior horn of the thyroid cartilage was fractured in 32 (91.4%) of the 35. Age was the only factor significantly related to laryngohyoid fracture (odds ratio = 2.85, 95% confidence interval = 1.08-7.52).

In hanging individuals, the incidence of laryngohyoid fracture on CT images was 39.8%. The superior horn of the thyroid cartilage was the most frequent fracture site.

• The incidence of laryngohyoid fracture on CT images of hanging individuals was almost 40%; the superior horn of the thyroid cartilage was the most frequent fracture site. • In older hanging individuals, attention must be paid to laryngohyoid fractures on CT images.

Our model consists in a PDE-ODE system where at each vertex of the graph we have a standard SIR model and connections between vertices are given by heat equations on the edges supplemented with Robin like boundary conditions at the vertices modeling exchanges between incident edges and the associated vertex. We describe the main properties of the system, and also derive the final total population of infected individuals. We present a semi-implicit in time numerical scheme based on finite differences in space which preserves the main properties of the continuous model such as the uniqueness and positivity of solutions and the conservation of the total population. We also illustrate our results with a collection of numerical simulations for a selection of connected graphs.
To review data published in the past 5years to evaluate the utility of our biopsychosocial model of social anxiety's relation to substance misuse to evaluate the model's utility and update it.

Data support the utility of our revised model-e.g., socially anxious persons report using substances to manage subjective anxiety, despite evidence that some substances may not have a direct effect on physiological responding. Other factors with promise include social influence, cognitive processes (e.g., post-event processing), and avoidance. Data highlight the importance of context as socially anxious persons use some substances more in some high-risk situations, despite lack of relation between social anxiety and use generally. Sociocultural factors remain understudied. This updated model is a theory- and data-driven model of the relations between social anxiety and substance misuse that can inform future work to improve substance-related outcomes among this especially vulnerable group.

Operative treatment of tibial pilon fracture is challenging. There is a lack of consensus and only one clinical study on the optimal location of distal tibial plating for fixation of pilon fractures based on varus or valgus fracture patterns. We hypothesize that complications rates, specifically mechanical complications, are not influenced by the location of the tibial plating in the fixation of pilon fractures with respect to varus or valgus fracture patterns.

Sixty-nine patients who had single plating for tibial pilon from 2007 to 2017 were recruited. They were divided into two groups, transverse fibular fracture (varus fracture pattern) and comminuted fibular fracture (valgus fracture pattern). Our primary outcome measure was any mechanical complications as a result of the location of plating (medial vs lateral) on varus or valgus fracture patterns.

There were 38 (55.1%) patients with varus fracture pattern and 31 (44.9%) patients with valgus fracture pattern tibial pilon fractures. In the varus fracr medial vs lateral plating in tibial pilon fracture based on varus or valgus deforming forces. As much as we should consider the fracture patterns and deforming forces when deciding on plating location, other factors such as careful soft tissue management and fragment-specific fixation should be prioritized.Embryonic thermal manipulation led to several modifications in molecular, physiological, and biochemical parameters which affect pre- and post-hatch growth performance. The current study aims to elucidate the onset and long-term effects of intermittent thermal manipulations (TM) during two-time windows, early/late, of embryogenesis in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) on embryonic development, hatchability, muscle histogenesis, and post-hatch growth performance. Four groups were created; quail eggs in the control group were incubated at 37.7 °C and relative humidity (RH) 55%. Three thermally treated groups were incubated intermittently at 41 °C and 65% RH intermittently (3 h/day) early embryogenesis group (EE) was thermally treated during embryonic days (ED) 6-8, late embryogenesis group (LE) was thermally treated during (ED12-ED14), and early and late embryogenesis group (EL) was thermally manipulated in both time windows. Relative embryo weights in EL and EE were significantly lighter than those in LE and Ctrl groups. The hatched chicks were reared under optimal managemental conditions (three replicates per treatment). Average daily feed intake was recorded, and feed conversion ratio (FCR) was calculated. Histological and quantitative analyses of muscle fibers were performed. The results revealed that TM led to significant hypertrophy of quail breast muscle in (EE). Intermittent short-term (3-6 h) thermal manipulation (39-40 °C) protocols during early embryogenesis (ED6-ED8) could be recommended to enhance muscle mass growth and breast muscle yield in the Japanese quail.
