To compare the blood parameters related to erythrocyte and platelet between baseline and 3 months after initial periodontal therapy in patients with both type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic periodontitis (DM-P).
According to the International Symposium on Classification of Periodontal Diseases and Conditions in 1999 and the diagnostic criteria of type 2 diabetes mellitus proposed by the World Health Organization in 1999, 35 patients with DM-P were recruited. All the participants received initial periodontal therapy, including oral hygiene instruction, scaling, and root planning provided by one senior periodontist. Original diet, exercise, and medication for blood glucose control were unchanged for all the participants. selleck chemicals At baseline and 3 months after initial periodontal therapy, the clinical periodontal parameters, including probing depth (PD), bleeding index (BI) and clinical attachment loss (CAL); erythrocyte-related indexes, including red blood cell (RBC) count, hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), meanantly reduced 3 months after the initial periodontal therapy.
The initial periodontal therapy can significantly improve blood parameters related to RBC and PLT, which might decrease the risk of vascular complications in DM-P patients.

Studies have indicated that periodontal pathogen
(
) infection may contributed to accelerate the development of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of inflammation, oxidative stress and the mechanism on atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein-E knockout (ApoE-/-) mice with
infection.
Eight-week-old male ApoE-/- mice (C57BL/6) were maintained under specific pathogen-free conditions and fed regular chow and sterile water after 1 weeks of housing. The animals were randomly divided into two groups (a) ApoE-/- + PBS (
=8); (b) ApoE-/- +
strain FDC381 (
=8). Both of the groups received intravenous injections 3 times per week for 4 weeks since 8 weeks of age. The sham control group received injections with phosphate buffered saline only, while the
-challenged group with
strain FDC381at the same time. After 4 weeks, oxidative stress mediators and inflammation cytokines were analyzed by oil red O in heart, Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in serum, quantitative disturbing the lipid profile and inducing oxidative stress and inflammation. The NF-κB signaling pathway might play a potential role in the P. link2 gingivalis-accelerated atherogenesis.
To eludicate the risk factors of mechanical ventilation and prolonged mechanical ventilation in patients with severe multiple injuries.
Consecutive patients with severe multiple injures who were treated in Peking University People's Hospital Trauma Medical Center between December 2016 and December 2019 were enrolled in this restropective chart-review study. According to mechanical ventilation and ventilatory time, the patients were divided into mechanical ventilation (MV) group and non-mechanical ventilation (NMV) groups, prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV) group and shortened mechanical ventilation (SMV) groups. Clinical data such as gender, age, base excess, mechanism of injury, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), abbreviated injury scale (AIS) and injury severity score (ISS) were collected. To indentify the risk factors of mechanical ventilation and prolonged mecha-nical ventilation, univariate and multivariate Logistic analyses were carried out.
In the present study, 112 patients (82 male, 30 female) with ISS and lower GCS might prolong the ventilatory time and the length of hospital stay. Meanwhile, the incidence of tracheotomy was high in PMV group because of the longer ventilatory time and poor consciousness.
GCS, base excess and rib fracture might be independent risk factors for mechanical ventilation. Higher ISS and lower GCS might prolong the ventilatory time and the length of hospital stay. Meanwhile, the incidence of tracheotomy was high in PMV group because of the longer ventilatory time and poor consciousness.
To validate the value of dual energy CT (DECT) in the differentiation of mediastinal metastatic lymph nodes from non-metastatic lymph nodes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
In the study, 57 surgically confirmed NSCLC patients who underwent enhanced DECT scan within 2 weeks before operation were enrolled. Two radiologists analyzed the CT images before operation. All mediastinal lymph nodes with short diameter≥5 mm on axial images were included in this study. The morphological parameters [long-axis diameter (L), short-axis diameter (S) and S/L of lymph nodes] and the DECT parameters [iodine concentration (IC), normalized iodine concentration (NIC), slope of spectral hounsfield unit curve (λHU) and effective atomic number (Zeff) in arterial and venous phase] were measured. The differences of morphological parameters and DECT parameters between metastatic and non-metastatic lymph nodes were compared. The parameters with significant difference were analyzed by the Logistic regression model, then a new pr.9%; specificity, 70.2%; accuracy, 77.9%). Multivariate analysis showed that S and NIC were independent predictors of lymph node metastasis. The AUC of combined S and NIC in the venous phase was 0.895(sensitivity, 79.6%; specificity, 87.7%; accuracy, 85.3%), which were significantly higher than that of S (
< 0.001) and NIC (
=0.037).
The ability of quantitative DECT parameters to distinguish mediastinal lymph node metastasis in NSCLC patients is better than that of morphological parameters. Combined S and NIC in venous phase can be used to improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy of metastatic lymph nodes.

Metatarsophalangeal joint is an important joint for daily weight-bearing walking. Osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis of the metatarsal head, rheumatoid arthritis can often cause the destruction of 2-5 metatarsophalangeal joint, leading to pain, limited joint movement and toe deformities, severely affecting the forefoot function. link3 The purpose of this study is to report the results of middle-long term follow-up after performing Swanson double-stem silicon implant arthroplasty in patients with diseases of 2-5 metatarsophalangeal joint.
From January 2010 to October 2015, 21 patients with 2-5 metatarsophalangeal joint replacement were performed with Swanson double-stem silicone prosthesis. In the study, 16 cases were successfully followed up, 2 men and 14 women with an average age (66.7±5.5) years. There were 9 cases diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, 5 cases with severe osteoarthritis and 2 cases with osteochondrosis of the metatarsal head. The American Association of foot and ankle surgery Maryland foot scorinryland foot scoring system (
< 0.01), the excellent rate was 81.3%.
With the advantages of alleviating pain, preserving the length and alignment of metatarsophalangeal joint, improving the function of walking, and correcting the deformity, Swanson double-stem silicon implant arthroplasty is a reproducible and safe option for the reconstruction of the 2-5 metatarsophalangeal joint. However, there is still some probability of adverse reactions and still room for improvement.

To find out the status of folic acid supplementation among women, to evaluate the prevention effects on neural tube defects (NTDs), and to explore the factors impact on folic acid supplementation compliance.
Based on the routine data of 92 121 women in prenatal health care and birth defect surveillance system in Tongzhou District of Beijing from 2013 to 2018, we described the prevalence of periconceptional folic acid supplementation, pre-pregnancy folic acid supplementation and regularly folic acid supplementation (compliance supplementation). Trend
tests were used to evaluate the change of folic acid supplementation prevalence. The prevalence difference among the women with folic acid supplementation and without supplementation were tested with Fisher's exact test. Factors asso-ciated with folic acid supplementation compliance rate were analyzed with univariate and multivariate Logistic regression model.
The prevalence of periconceptional folic acid supplementation during the six years was 90.08% fects of NTDs prevention.
