This study was designed to investigate the cognitive function and the white matter lesions (WMLs) and the relationship between them in medication-overuse headache (MOH) patients.

Subjects were enrolled and performed Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA, Chinese-Beijing Version), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24), and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to evaluate the general cognitive function, anxiety, depression and sleep quality, and they were divided into three groups according to the MoCA scores healthy controls, MOH with normal cognition group and MOH with cognitive impairment group. All the participants underwent MRI scans and images were obtained for WML evaluation with Fazekas scale.

One hundred thirty-four participants were enrolled into this study, 46 of them for healthy controls, and 88 for MOH patients, 40 of the MOH patients for MOH with cognitive impairment group, and 48 for MOH with normal cognition group. MOH patients had significantly lof the disease may alleviate cognitive impairment in MOH patients.
MOH patients showed cognitive impairment and increased WML burden. And in MOH patients, cognitive function was negatively related to WML burden, and disease duration and monthly headache days were potential predictors of cognitive impairment. Prompt and effective treatment to stop the progression of the disease may alleviate cognitive impairment in MOH patients.
The present study aimed to assess the influence of personality traits on the variability of sensitivity to pain in two distinct groups of healthy subjects with low versus high sensitivity to pain (LSP vs HSP, respectively).

Healthy subjects (n=156) were allocated to two groups according to their tolerability to cold stimulation (cold pressor test, CPT, 1°C). Group LSP (n=76) reached the cut-off time of 180±0 sec, and a size matched group of HSP (n=80) tolerated the CPT for an average of 10.5±3.4 sec only. Subjects from both groups completed the self-reported pain sensitivity questionnaire (PSQ), the Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), and the Neuroticism Extraversion Openness - Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI).

In comparison to the LSP group, HSP individuals had higher scores of PSQ (
<0.001), catastrophizing (
=0.001), and extraversion (
=0.01). learn more By adjusting for age and gender, mediation analyses revealed that catastrophizing mediated the relationship between neuroticism and pain sensitivity, both in the allocation of subjects to a certain group of sensitivity to pain (LSP or HSP, B=0.02 95% CI 0.006-0.040) and in the PSQ score (B=0.01 95% CI 0.001-0.023).

These results, which were demonstrated by two different prisms (CPT and PSQ), point to the potential of the five-factor inventory and pain catastrophizing scale as tools for identifying specific personality traits associated with a high sensitivity to pain.

Neuropathic pain is a devastating complex condition occurring post-nervous system damage. Microglia in dorsal horn drives neuropathic pain as a kind of immune cell. We aimed to find potential differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and candidate pathways, which induced neuropathic pain, and to identify some new transcription factors and therapeutic drugs via bioinformatic analysis.

The microarray profile GSE60670 was downloaded and analyzed. DEGs were screened and analyzed through Gene Ontology (GO), pathway enrichment, and protein-to-protein interaction (PPI) network. Respectively, transcription factors (TFs) and potential therapeutic drugs for DEGs were predicted through NetworkAnalyst and DGIdb databases. At last, we chose top 10 DEGs for external validation.

A total of 100 DEGs were identified. The results of pathway and GO analyses were closely related to malaria inflammatory pathway and inflammatory response. Three necessary PPI modules and 9 hub genes were identified in PPI analysis, and 277 DEG-TF pairs were found among 54 DEGs and 32 TF. Moreover, 22 candidate drugs were found to match 9 hub genes. External validation of 9 of the top 10 DEGs were consistent with bioinformatic analysis.

This study provided comprehensive analyses for the functional gene sets and pathways related to neuropathic pain and promoted our understanding of the mechanism or therapy of neuropathic pain.

This study aims to investigate the correlation of dominant eye and refractive error between monozygotic twins.

The data of dominant eye and refractive error of 13 pairs of monozygotic twins who were treated at the Optometry Clinic were collected. The paired chi-square test and Kappa consistency test were used to analyze the data of dominant eye between monozygotic twins, while the paired
test and Pearson correlation analysis were adopted to analyze the refractive error data. SPSS version 22.0 software was used to analyze the above statistics.

In the Kappa consistency test of dominant eye between monozygotic twins, Kappa value = 0.451, p = 0.052, p>0.05, and in the paired chi-square test, p = 0.250. In the spherical equivalent paired
test for the right eye of monozygotic twins, t = 1.491 and p = 0.162, while in the spherical equivalent paired
test for the left eye, t = 0.753 and p = 0.466. In the spherical equivalent correlation analysis of monozygotic twins, for the spherical equivalent refraction of the right eye, the Pearson correlation results were r = 0.901 and p = 0.00, and for the spherical equivalent refraction of the left eye, the Pearson correlation results were r = 0.971 and p = 0.00.

The difference in the chi-square test of dominant eye is not statistically significant between monozygotic twins, but dominant eye and refractive error are correlated to some extent. It is suggested that heredity may be the main determinant of the dominant eye. There is no difference in refractive error between identical twins which are highly correlated, however.

To explore the alteration of pattens of anatomical and functional connectivity (FC) of posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients with cognitive dysfunction and the relationship between the connection strengths and cognitive state.

We prospectively enrolled 20 PD patients with mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI), 13 PD patients with normal cognition (PD-NC) and 13 healthy controls (HCs). By collecting, preprocessing and FC analyzing resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data, we extracted default mode network (DMN) patterns, compared the differences in DMN between the three groups and the analyzed the correlation between FC value with the commonly used neuropsychological testing.

The PD-MCI showed significant worse performances in general cognition, and PD-NC and HCs showed comparable performances of cognitive function. Cognitive-related differences in DMN were detected in the bilateral precuneus (BPcu). Compared with the HCs, PD-NC and PD-MCI showed significantly decreased FC within BPcu (both P < 0.001). For PD-MCI, the rho of the Fisher's Z-transformed FC (zFC) value within BPcu with the TMTA, DSST and CFT-20min were 0.50, 0.66 and 0.47, respectively. For PD-NC, the rho of the zFC value within BPcu with the MMSE was 0.58.

BPcu was the cognitive-related region in DMN. As cognition declines, FC within BPcu weakens. For PD-MCI, the higher the FC values within BPcu were likely to be related to the better the performances of TMTA, DSST and CFT-20 min DR, which needs to be further confirmed by large-sample studies.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) continues to be a cancer with rising incidence, high mortality, and recurrence rate. The therapeutic effects on HCC are not satisfactory currently. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is an important factor, while anti-EGFR agencies have not shown ideal results in HCC.

We tested efficacy of nimotuzumab and EGFR expression on cell surface in six HCC cell lines (Hep 3B2.1-7, Li-7, PLC/PRF/5, SK-HEP-1, SNU-182, and SNU-387). Then, we analyzed RNA sequences of every cell line and performed a bioinformatic analysis. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were analyzed. The data, TCGA-LIHC from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and GSE102079 from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), were used to analyse DEGs of Hoshida subclass.

Hep 3B2.1-7 and PLC/PRF/5 were sensitive to nimotuzumab whereas Li-7, SK-HEP-1, SNU-182, and SNU-387 cell lines were resistant. Then, we compared the DEGs between sensitive and resistant group cell lines. We enriched DEGs in GO and KEGG and performed GSEA in en, as they might play important roles in the curative effect of nimotuzumab in HCC.
This study explored the feasibility of congenital heart disease (CHD) screening by combining a percutaneous oxygen saturation (POX) test with cardiac auscultation method in neonates.

POX tests and cardiac auscultation were used concurrently to screen 8305 neonates born in Jinjiang City Hospital between January 2016 and December 2018 for CHD. The positive screening results (positive POX or positive cardiac auscultation) were confirmed with echocardiography, while any false negative results were identified through follow-up and parent feedback. Sensitivity, specificity, positive/negative predictive values, Youden's index, and the area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) of the single use and combined use of the two methods (a POX test and auscultation) were calculated, and the results were compared.

Among 8305 neonates, 22 cases were positive for POX alone, of which 6 cases were diagnosed by echocardiography; 83 cases were positive for cardiac auscultation alone, of which 47 cases were diagnosed by echocardiography; and 8 cases were positive for both methods, all of which were confirmed by echocardiography. Four more cases were confirmed during follow-up. Sensitivity, specificity, and the positive and negative predictive values of combined screening were 93.85%, 99.37%, 53.98% and 99.95%, respectively, while Youden's index was 0.93, and the AUC was 0.966. Sixty-five cases of CHD were diagnosed, the total incidence being 7.82%, and a ventricular septal defect was found to be the most common type.

The combination of POX test and cardiac auscultation as a screening method for neonatal CHD can reduce missed diagnoses and increase the detection rate of CHD in newborn infants.
