Types of UPVC Door Handles
It is crucial to select the correct replacement Upvc handle for your home if your upvc handles need replacing. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles with extra security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to make sure that your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rigid rod that pivots around an object. When you apply a force at the end of the lever, it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotates the fulcrum, increasing the applied force, allowing you to lift or move something that would require a greater amount of force if you tried to apply directly to the load.
The distance between the fulcrum and the place where you apply the force determines how far the lever can move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever is extended, the larger the mechanical benefit. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum's point and the end of lever.
Levers can also have a variety of effects depending on how the forces are applied. For instance the class 2 lever has a tendency to turn in the opposite direction to when the force of effort is applied (like a totter-totter). If you push on the door handle and force it to open, the forces will cause rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you exert by making a small amount effort across a large distance into a greater amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport large quantities of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools, such as crowbars, fishing rods, claws for hammers and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a kind of upvc door handle that have levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. Lever pad handles are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be used on a wide range of materials, including UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the inner and exterior door, with spindles and screws included. They are also available in hand and unhandled versions to suit different types of users.
They are typically used for new constructions and can be installed to replace existing doors made of upvc. The levers are lowered to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They are more secure when compared to traditional lever door handles as the locking operation is only accessible from the inside with an open key, unless the door is deadlocked.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock however they are an affordable way to increase the security of your home. The only downside is that they do not offer the same level of security as a cylinder bolt, and therefore don't stop external access when the door is left open.
The majority of lever pad upvc door handles we stock are made by the industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are constructed using high quality components. They are also generally supplied with a manufacturers guarantee.
These are usually designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement version called the Paddock Lock. They will have a 92mm centre cylinder on the inside and 62mm on the exterior and be fitted with 2 spindle followers. Some come with the backplate inserted, while others are removable for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are the most basic type of door handles. The lever is pushed downwards to open a latch inside the door, which can be locked with keys. Some lever privacy handles operate in the same way, but with the addition of an snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib-button can be extremely useful, particularly for homes where it's crucial to ensure privacy or security. You can use the snib handle to prevent your guests from entering the home until they are prepared. This kind handle is also used in doors that are inside such as bedrooms, where you may require a lock to prevent access from outside.
In certain situations, snib buttons can cause issues, especially in the case of doors and locks that are bent. If the snib button is accidentally pressed, or by someone who is not familiar with it, the door may shut and lock you out. Usually, you can still be able to get in by knocking the door's frame or letterbox, however this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC door is equipped with a snib-button We recommend replacing the handle with a contemporary E-LOK 7-Series smart lock. These smart locks can be retrofitted to double-turn pull handle kits. They are available with coverplates to hide holes that are already present to ensure a seamless installation. The E-LOK application can be used to open doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also offered for convenience and security. The system has been tested for 200,000 cycles to ensure long-lasting durability. The handles are constructed of solid metal and meet BS EN 1670 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a very popular handle style for front doors that has the benefit of preventing the door from opening by the outside without a key, if the lock isn't deadlocked. This is achieved by using an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.
This type of handle is made for uPVC doors that are fitted with multipoint locks which operate via split spindle technology. This type of operation requires the internal lever handle and the external pad handle to be fitted within the same lock case. This can be a simple modification to the existing uPVC handles but it may also require changing the lock case or a brand new set of handle furniture to allow this added functionality.
These aluminium lever/movable pads door handles are suitable for use on uPVC and feature an easy-to-maintain slide bearing. They also come with fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and an unstick slide bearing. The handles have an euro-profile cut out and can be mounted on a variety of uPVC or doors made of timber.
Lever moveable pads are available in a variety of finishes and can be used with a variety of multipoint locks. They are designed to be used with split spindle multipoint locks with an 92mm cylinder center and require a specific split spindle set, as provided by the lock manufacturer.

Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handle is among the most popular kinds of door handles made from upvc and is available in a range of styles. It is made up of two inline handles that can be locked and moved with a thumbturn cylinder or a key. A pad handle is an alternative to a lever/lever handle. It is made up of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to control the lock. These Fullex handles have a sprung lever pad as well as a snib, which can be turned on to hold the latch.
