There are a number of studies in the literature which show that knowledge about the diabetes mellitus is related to socioeconomic status, education, duration of diabetes, age, sex, and family history. The above facts have prompted us to evaluate the status of knowledge of diabetes in our patients at the diabetic clinic Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences (VPIMS), Lucknow, India. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the knowledge of diabetes among the suffering with people with type-2 diabetes mellitus and its correlation with diabetes control.

The participants' knowledge about diabetes and their understanding about control and complications of diabetes were assessed by a standardized questionnaire. The data was collected at a single, routine visit of the patient to the diabetic clinic at VPIMS, Lucknow, India over a period of 1 year after detailed clinical examination and relevant investigations.

Only 50% of the patients know what diabetes is, 46% know it is a hereditary disease, 68.8% know about its symptoms, 50% have complete knowledge about complications, 45.2%, know simple treatments of diabetes. Among educated graduate and professional category majority of subjects (62.5%) had good level of knowledge about diabetes which was statistically significant (p<0.001). Those having frequent/regular exercise, having higher education and shorter duration of diabetes had a better control over postprandial (PP) blood sugar as compared to those having occasional/no exercise and lower level of education (p<0.05).

The findings indicate a greater need for behavioral change to control diabetes and its associated threats.

Prediabetes is a high-risk state for diabetes. The study aims to describe routine clinical practice and the views of physicians and pharmacists on prediabetes management.

An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted using a structured questionnaire.

A total of 410 physicians and 393 pharmacists completed the questionnaire. Self-adherence to clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) was reported by 51.5% and 23.2% of physicians and pharmacists, respectively. Less than 60% of participants defined prediabetes according to main CPG. Regarding the use of screening strategies to detect prediabetes (physicians 96%; pharmacists 42.1%), reports indicate the opportunistic strategy is widely employed (≥75%) whereas systematic screening is unusual (<20%). Changes in lifestyle were deemed essential by almost all participants (≥95%), but in clinical practice only 58.3% of healthcare centers and 28.0% of pharmacies were found to provide awareness-raising/instruction. The role of pharmacists in the prevention of prediabetes/diabetes was judged useful by most participants.

Use of CPG, systematic prediabetes screening strategies, and specific strategies for patient education are scarce. The support of community pharmacists in prediabetes management was well valued. Therefore, it is crucial that the lines of action followed by both physicians and pharmacists align with each other and with the CPG.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease in which specialized nutritional support is essential. The objectives of our study were to describe nutritional support at the beginning of follow-up and its impact on anthropometry and survival.

An interhospital registry was created for the hospitals of Castilla-León through a web platform designed for this purpose. An anamnesis was carried out on the evolution and nutritional history of the disease; and classical anthropometry was determined. The prescribed nutritional treatment was recorded. The parameters were measured at the beginning, at six and twelve months of nutritional follow-up.

A total of 93 patients [49 (52.7%) spinal; 44 (47.3%) bulbar)] were analyzed. The nutritional support route at the beginning was oral diet in 36 (38.7%) patients; oral nutritional supplementation (SON) in 46 (49.5%) patients; and in 11 (11.8%) patients percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). A decrease in the body mass index (BMI) was observed between the first and second visit [Start 24.18 (3.29) kg/m
; 6 months 23.69 (4.12) kg/m
; P < .05]. Less weight loss was observed at 6 months compared to the start of nutritional follow-up [Start 8.09 (8.72)%; 6 months 1.4 (6.29)%; P < .01]. 36 (38.7%) patients died but with no differences according to when nutritional support was started. Survival from the onset of symptoms was higher in the group of patients with artificial nutrition, although without reaching statistical significance [Oral 28 (20.25) months; SON 30 (16.75-48.25) months; PEG 39 (27-52) months; P = .90].

Patients with ALS present a severe deterioration in nutritional status before the start of nutritional support. After the nutritional intervention, a slowdown in weight loss and nutritional deterioration was observed.

To validate regression equations that predict the state of maturity (MS) to evaluate the physical growth and body fatness of Chilean children and adolescents.

A transversal study was carried out in 8094 school children between 6.0 and 18.9 years old. Weight, standing height, sitting height, and waist circumference (WC) were evaluated. Peak growth rate (PVC) was estimated by the mathematical model 1 of Preece-Baines (MPB). Panobinostat HDAC inhibitor Mirwald's equations (based on age, weight, standing height, sitting height, and leg length) and Moore's equations (based on age, weight, and standing height) were used to estimate MS. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated.

The BMP showed that the PVC in men was 10.33 ± 0.29 years and in women was 12.81 ± 0.27 years. Using Mirwald's equation, men reached MS at 14.09 ± 0.8 APVC and women at 11.6 ± 0.9 APVC, while using Moore's equation, men reached 13.7 ± 0.6 APVC and women at 12.1 ± 0.6 APVC. There were significant differences between MPB with Mirwald, MPB with Morre, and between Mirwald and Moore (p < 0.001). Explanation values by MS category were Mirwald's equation [men (early R
 = 0.81, mean R
 = 0.69 and late R
 = 0.09) and women (early R
 = 0.83, mean R
 = 0.83 and late R
 = 0.77)], Moore's equation [men (early R
 = 0.93, mean R
 = 0.70 and late R
 = 0.79) and women (early R
 = 0.89, mean R
 = 0.89 and late R
= 0.83)]. Percentiles were created for weight, height, CC and BMI.

It was verified that Moore's and Mirwald's equations differ with the mathematical model MPB in both sexes. However, Moore's equation could be useful for the evaluation of MS in Chilean children and adolescents.

The determination of thyroglobulin levels by immunoassay and imaging studies is subject to interference by antithyroglobulin antibodies in up to 30% of cases, suggesting a need to find alternative methods for the follow-up of a significant number of thyroid cancer patients.

Assess the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of thyroglobulin messenger RNA levels measured by quantitative Real Time-PCR (qRT-PCR) in the blood of patients followed for differentiated thyroid cancer.

This is a prospective study of Tg-mRNA levels measured with qRT-PCR. A peripheral blood sample was taken in patients with excellent response (69) and with structural incomplete response to treatment (23). Results were analysed using the Unity Real-Time program and expressed as fg/μg RNA. A Receiver Operating Characteristic curve was constructed to assess Tg-mRNA cut-off values.

Tg-mRNA levels were not significantly different between the group with excellent response [0.10 fg/μg RNA (0.08-0.17)] and the group with incomplete structural response [0.133 fg/μg RNA (0.07-0.33)] (P < .06). Test sensitivity was 69.6%, specificity was 59.4%, negative predictive value was 85.4% and positive predictive value 36.4% CONCLUSIONS Our experience shows that this technique could be useful as a rule-out test in selected cases, but its low sensitivity and specificity preclude its usefulness as a first-line test.

Lipids are required for the maintenance and regulation of the epidermal barrier, physical properties of the skin, and defense against microbes. Analysis of the lipidome-the totality of lipids-is of similar complexity to those of proteomics or other omics, with lipid structures ranging from simple, linear, to highly complex structures. In addition, the ordering and chemical modifications of lipids have consequences on their biological function, especially in the skin. Recent advances in analytic capability (usually with mass spectrometry), bioinformatic processing, and integration with other dermatological big data have allowed researchers to increasingly understand the roles of specific lipid species in skin biology. In this paper, we review the techniques used to analyze skin lipidomics and epilipidomics.
With the implementation of multidisciplinary treatment and development of multiple novel anticancer drugs in parallel with expanding knowledge of supportive and palliative care, a need for separate training and specialisation in medical oncology emerged. A Global Curriculum (GC) in medical oncology, developed and updated by a joint European Society for Medical Oncology/American Society of Clinical Oncology (ESMO/ASCO) GC Task Force/Working Group (GC WG), greatly contributed to the recognition of medical oncology worldwide.

ESMO/ASCO GC WG carried out a global survey on medical oncology recognition and GC adoption in2019.

Based on our survey, medical oncology is recognised as a separate specialty or sub-specialty in 47/62 (75%) countries participating in the survey; with a great majority of them (39/47, 83%) recognising medical oncology as a standalone specialty. Additionally, in 9 of 62 (15%) countries, medical oncology is trained together with haematology as a specialty in haemato-oncology or together with radiotherapy as a specialty in clinical oncology.
