Shengmai injection (SMI) has been used to treat heart failure.

This study determines the molecular mechanisms of SMI against cardiotoxicity caused by doxorubicin (DOX).

, DOX (15 mg/kg) was intraperitoneally injected in model, Dex (dexrazoxane), SMI-L (2.7 mL/kg), SMI-M (5.4 mL/kg), and SMI-H (10.8 mL/kg) for 7 consecutive days. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson staining were used to evaluate histological changes, and cardiomyocyte apoptosis was identified using TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labelling (TUNEL). Enzymatic indexes were determined. mRNA and protein expressions were analysed through RT-qPCR and Western blotting.
, H9c2 cells were divided into control group, model group (2 mL 1 μM DOX), SMI group, ML385 group, and SMI + ML385 group, the intervention lasted for 24 h. mRNA and protein expressions were analysed.

SMI markedly improved cardiac pathology, decreased cardiomyocyte apoptosis, increased creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malondialdehyde (MDA), decreased superoxide dismutase (SOD). Compared with the model group, the protein expression of nuclear factor erythroid2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) (SMI-L 2.42-fold, SMI-M 2.67-fold, SMI-H 3.07-fold) and haem oxygenase-1(HO-1) (SMI-L 1.64-fold, SMI-M 2.01-fold, SMI-H 2.19-fold) was increased and the protein expression of kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1) (SMI-L 0.90-fold, SMI-M 0.77-fold, SMI-H 0.66-fold) was decreased in SMI groups and Dex group
. Additionally, SMI dramatically inhibited apoptosis, decreased CK, LDH and MDA levels, and enhanced SOD activity. Our results demonstrated that SMI reduced DOX-induced cardiotoxicity via activation of the Nrf2/Keap1 signalling pathway.

This study revealed a new mechanism by which SMI alleviates DOX-induced 45 cardiomyopathy by modulating the Nrf2/Keap1 signal pathway.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted people's lives around the world, including college students. This cross-sectional study aimed to 1) describe psychological distress, coping, and expectancies of undergraduates during COVID-19 "stay-at-home" orders and 2) examine the associations among these variables.

Midwestern US undergraduates (
= 186) completed measures of psychological distress, coping behaviors, and expectancies in March-April 2020 during the initial round of "stay-at-home" orders.

Students engaged in approach coping and disease prevention behaviors and had low expectations for contracting COVID-19. Most students reported clinically significant depression or anxiety. Adherence to disease prevention behaviors was associated with less stress but more anxiety. Positive expectancies and approach coping were associated with less distress. Avoidance coping was associated with more distress.

This study describes the toll that COVID-19 has had on college students. Continued attention to the mental health of college students during the pandemic is imperative.

A range of alternative access devices exist; however, most rely on use of a single access modality. While this approach works for some individuals, it can be limiting for others. This study explored the use of a multi-modal prototype (eye-tracking + switch-scanning) on typing performance with a range of individuals with motor impairments. The multi-modal prototype was compared to eye-tracking alone for this study. Results indicated that the multi-modal prototype had significantly slower typing rate but significantly lower total errors compared to eye-tracking alone. Analysis of individual data revealed four subgroups of clinical relevance including individuals that 1) benefit from multi-modal, 2) benefit from eye-tracking, 3) demonstrate learning and 4) demonstrate fluctuating performance. It is estimated that Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) will cause over 500,000 deaths worldwide by 2030. This is coupled with a shortage of trained healthcare professionals to manage HNC. An alternative cadre of workers - community healthcare workers (CHWs) - could be deployed to address this shortage. A systematic scoping review was conducted. Seven major databases were searched from inception to 30 June 2021. Studies were included from across the globe and excluded if the focus was not on HNC or CHWs. We identified 13 studies for inclusion. Twelve were based in India. CHWs were deployed in education and awareness raising initiatives, community screening, and ensuring compliance with treatment and follow-up. CHWs were compared to specialists for effectiveness in four studies with one reporting sensitivity of 94·3% and specificity 99·3% for HNC screening. This review highlights ways in which CHWs can be deployed to meet the growing demand for HNC services. The existing evidence suggests that CHWs can have potential roles in screening for HNC, therefore facilitating an earlier diagnosis. It is important this screening is implemented where there is appropriate capacity to manage HNC. Further research needs to be carried out to explore barriers and facilitators to these programmes. Objective To explore health literacy needs and preferences for a technology-based intervention (app) to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among college students.Participants In Spring 2019, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 participants (10 male, 10 female) from a large, public university. Methods Interview guide was developed based on Integrated Model of Health Literacy domains and Diffusion of Innovation constructs. Data were analyzed in MaxQDA using applied thematic analysis. Results Dominant themes included accessing health information and services, evaluating options to make decisions, intervention utility and characteristics, and the emergent theme of credibility. Specific topics included accessing STI testing, contraceptive decision making, information on human papillomavirus (HPV) and the HPV vaccine, patient-provider communication, app design and function elements, and modifying the app to meet the SRH needs of diverse college students. Conclusions Findings identified areas where an app could address college students' SRH literacy, ultimately improving SRH outcomes among this population.Supplemental data for this article can be accessed online at https//doi.org/10.1080/07448481.2022.2040517 .
To identify rates of telemedicine provision during the COVID-19 pandemic and predictive institutional factors among 4-year and graduate colleges and universities.

The study (n = 364) included the websites (.edu) of accredited public nonprofit, private nonprofit, and private for-profit institutions of higher education in the United States that award bachelors, masters, or doctoral degrees.

Using digital content analysis, human coders analyzed institution websites for informational text indicating student telemedicine services.

Findings indicate that a minority of 4-year and above institutions offer telemedicine access. Institution type, institution size, and the presence of campus student health services were predictive. Endowment size and Minority Serving Institution status were not predictive.

This study illustrates the ongoing need for increased access to remote health services across higher education, especially among smaller private and public nonprofit colleges and universities and all private for-profit institutions.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) were confirmed to be related to DDP-resistance. Studies have shown that RP3-326I13.1 (also known as PINCR) could promote the progression of colorectal cancer, and RP3-326I13.1 knockdown could induce hypersensitivity to chemotherapy drugs. While the function of RP3-326I13.1 in LAD is unclear, therefore, this study aimed to research the biological function and related molecular mechanisms of RP3-326I13.1 in DDP-resistance of LAD. QPCR analysis found that RP3-326I13.1 was highly expressed in A549/DDP cells and LAD tissues. Cytological assays found that RP3-326I13.1 pro-moted the proliferation, migration, invasion, and DDP-resistance of LAD cell lines. Moreover, knock-down of RP3-326I13.1 could induce G1 phase arrest. Nude mouse xenograft assay confirmed that RP3-326I13.1 could promote tumor growth and DDP-resistance in vivo. The aim of this study was to establish a rapid and sensitive method with visualization to detect L. monocytogenes based on polymerase spiral reaction (PSR). Primers targeting conserved hlyA gene sequence of L. monocytogenes were designed based on bioinformatics analyses on the current available L. monocytogenes genomes. The isothermal amplification PSR can be completed under constant temperature (65ᵒC) within 60 min with high specificity and sensitivity. Twenty-five reference strains were used to evaluate the specificity of the developed reaction. The results showed that the sensitive of the reaction for L. MitoPQ supplier monocytogenes in purified genomic DNA and artificially contaminated food samples were 41 pg/μL and 103 CFU/mL, respectively. It was 100-fold more sensitive than conventional PCR. In conclusion, this novel PSR method is rapid, cost-efficient, timesaving, and applicable on artificially contaminated food samples, providing broad prospects into the detection of foodborne microbes with the promising on-site inspection. As the prevalence of long-term conditions continues to rise it becomes increasingly important to identify ways to mitigate their effects, including the psychological impact. In rural Kenya identifying people with diabetes or mental health problems is challenging due to the stigma and negative experiences within community settings.Four broad themes were identified; (1) misconceptions and stigma the use of language, (2) treatment and medications, (3) community beliefs and alternative treatment pathways, (4) the role of informal and formal care. Our study demonstrated the detrimental effect of the use of stigmatising language and misconceptions surrounding diabetes and depression at both the individual and community levels. Inequalities in health care access were observed and a lack of resources in rural communities was evident. Improvements in support for health care workers at the community level as well as acknowledging the importance of informal care could help improve the psychological and emotional impact of diabetes and depression.
