The effect involving beta-blockers in hemodynamic parameters in patient-specific blood circulation models of type-B aortic dissection: a virtual examine.
004), advanced pathologic TNM stage (P < 0.001), and histology (P = 0.003). Further analyses demonstrated that CD47 and CD68 predicted outcomes of patients independently. In addition, the expression of CD47 correlated with neutrophils, and did not correlated with B cells and CD4 + T cells in the TCGA database and GSE37745.

Combined use of CD47 and CD68 exhibited excellent performance in predicting survival of patients with NSCLC. CD47 was a potential therapeutic target for immune therapy of lung cancer.

Previous studies showed poorer survival in T4 disease with residual lesion. To evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of a boost dose for T4 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), patients with a residual primary lesion after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).

398 T4 NPC patients with residual primary lesions after radical IMRT were retrospectively reviewed. An IMRT boost dose of 4-6.75Gy was delivered to the residual lesions in 2-3 fractions. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied to balance potential confounders between groups (ratio, 12). The presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA in plasma after IMRT was used for risk stratification.

Patients who received boost radiation had significantly improved overall survival (OS) and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) compared with those who did not (all P < 0.05). In the matched cohort, 3-year OS was 86.6% in the boost radiation group and 72.7% in the non-boost group (P = 0.022). Three-year LRFS was 93.4% in the boost radiation group and 83.5% in the ls of plasma EBV DNA after radiotherapy.
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a rare epithelial carcinoma arising from the nasopharyngeal region. The pathogenesis of NPC is linked to Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, although genetics and lifestyle factors appears to be also implicated. NKG2D is an immunoreceptor expressed by NK and T-cell subsets that recognizes MICA protein and other ligands on tumor cells. NKG2D interaction with MICA plays a role in the immunosurveillance to viruses and cancer.

We investigated potential associations between functional polymorphisms in NKG2D and MICA genes with NPC susceptibility. selleck chemical We conducted a case-control study including 255 Vietnamese patients with EBV + non-differentiated NPC and 220 healthy controls.

We observed a significant association between the LNK/LNK genotype of rs1049174 (a variant associated with lower NKG2D receptor expression and reduced NK cell cytotoxicity) and increased susceptibility to NPC (adjusted OR = 1.66, 95% CI 1.07-2.59; p = 0.024). Similarly, the AA genotype of MICA rs2596542 wasPC (adjusted OR = 2.12; 95% CI 1.22-3.81; p = 0.009). In addition, tumor specimens of NPC patients with the AA genotype displayed a higher expression level of MICA proteins and showed higher EBV titers compared with tumor tissues from patients with the GG or GA genotypes. Higher EBV copy numbers were also observed in tumors with the A allele of MICA rs1051792 (also known as MICA-129 Met/Val) compared with those with the G allele; however, MICA rs1051792 variants were not associated with NPC susceptibility. These results suggest that genetic variants in components of the NKG2D axis may influence the individual susceptibility to EBV-induced NPC.The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), due to SARS-CoV-2, is primarily a respiratory disease, causing in most severe cases life-threatening acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Cardiovascular involvement can also occur, such as thrombosis or myocarditis, generally associated with pulmonary lesions. Little is known about SARS-CoV-2-induced myocarditis. We report the case of a 69-year-old man suffering from a refractory cardiogenic shock, without significant lung involvement. Prior to death, several nasopharyngeal swabs and distal bronchoalveolar lavage were sampled in order to perform RT-PCR analyses for SARS-CoV-2-RNA, which all gave negative results. Autopsy showed coronary atherosclerosis, without acute complication. Microscopic examination of the heart revealed the existence of an intense multifocal inflammatory infiltration, in both ventricles and septum, composed in its majority of macrophages and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CD4/CD8 ratio 0.11). Immunohistochemistry for anti-SARS nucleocapsid protein antibody was strongly positive in myocardial cells, but not in lung tissue. RT-PCR was realized on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded lung and heart tissue blocks only heart tissue was positive for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. In conclusion, this exhaustive post-mortem pathological case study of fulminant myocarditis demonstrates the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in heart tissue, without significant lung involvement. Immunohistochemistry showed that the virus was specifically localized in cardiomyocytes and induced a strong cytotoxic T cells inflammatory response. This case report thus gives new insight in the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2-induced myocarditis and emphasizes on the importance and reliability of post-mortem analyses in order to better understand the physiopathology of this worldwide spreading new viral disease.Forensic scholars are paying more attention to postmortem computed tomography (PMCT) and PMCT angiography (PMCTA), which are gradually becoming effective and practical methods in forensic practice. However, few studies have focused on the application of PMCTA to cardiac ventricular puncture-especially of the right ventricle. In this article, we introduce a pulmonary PMCTA approach by right ventricle cardiac puncture and its potential value in fatalities from pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). The procedure was performed on 11 males and 6 females. PMCT was performed first; then a biopsy core needle was used for percutaneous puncture of the right ventricle under CT guidance. About 400 mL of contrast media was injected at a rate of 50 mL/8 s, followed by CT scanning. Visualization of the pulmonary artery contrast filling was complete in 9 cadavers, and the pulmonary arteries showed significant filling defects in 8 subjects. Unlike in clinical practice, the phenomenon of postmortem coagulation sometimes occurs in the vascular lumina after death. Therefore, the results of these 8 cases can only suggest or be highly suspicious of death from PTE. link2 Then autopsy and histopathological examination confirmed that 4 of the above 8 patients were diagnosed with PTE; the remaining 4 had postmortem clot including chicken fat clot in the pulmonary artery. Pulmonary PMCTA approach is a simple, convenient, and effective method for the visualization of the pulmonary artery, which can be used as an effective auxiliary tool to identify PTE in forensic practice. It will also provide technical support to further investigate PTE imaging characteristics. In this study, we investigate the forensic and population genetics properties of 21 X-chromosome markers (9 X-Alu insertions and 12 X-STRs) in a dataset composed of 716 individuals from 11 Western Mediterranean populations. The high values of combined forensic parameters indicate that this 21 X-loci panel can complement autosomal or uniparental markers in kinship analysis and complex deficient paternity testing in the populations studied. Population analyses revealed a lower differentiation between Western Mediterranean human groups for X-STRs than for X-Alu insertion polymorphisms. Moreover, X-chromosome markers suggest a sex-biased migration rate, confirming the predominance of patrilocality in this area.Seasonal or monthly databases of the diatom populations in specific bodies of water are needed to infer the drowning site of a drowned body. However, existing diatom testing methods are laborious, time-consuming, and costly and usually require specific expertise. In this study, we developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system as a substitute for manual morphological examination capable of identifying and classifying diatoms at the species level. Within two days, the system collected information on diatom profiles in the Huangpu and Suzhou Rivers of Shanghai, China. In an animal experiment, the similarities of diatom profiles between lung tissues and water samples were evaluated through a modified Jensen-Shannon (JS) divergence measure for drowning site inference, reaching a prediction accuracy of 92.31%. Considering its high efficiency and simplicity, our proposed method is believed to be more applicable than existing methods for seasonal or monthly water monitoring of diatom populations from sections of interconnected rivers, which would help police narrow the investigation scope to confirm the identity of an immersed body.Hair is a preferred material to detect exposure or use of illegal drugs in children. In the present study, we investigated a total of 387 hair samples for commonly applied illegal drugs of children up to 16 years. Analysis was by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry with LOQs of 0.01 ng/mg hair for all analytes except tetrahydrocannabinol carboxylic acid with an LOQ of 0.1 pg/mg hair. Results were firstly compared with our in-house statics on results from adults' hair, and secondly to literature data. We started from the assumption that drug concentrations decrease with increasing age. Results were assigned to 4 different age groups ( less then 1 year, 1- less then 6 years, 6- less then 14 years, 14-16 years). As expected, higher results were obtained in age groups 1 and 2. The lowest concentrations were present in age group 3, whereas an increase could be observed in group 4 except heroin. In babies, positive results may be due to in utero exposure, breast milk feeding, and a close physical contact. All drugs under investigation such as cannabinoids, cocaine, amphetamines, and opiates have been detected in breast milk as well as in skin excretions such as sebum, sweat and cutaneous cells. For most drugs, average concentrations in children hair were lower than in adult hair when compared with our in-house statistics. Interestingly, the increase of cannabinoids, cocaine, and amphetamines concentrations in adolescents' hair points to a deliberate use of these drugs possibly in addition to passive exposure. link3 This observation shows that age groups 1 and 4 are most vulnerable if caregivers or parents are drug users, even if the sources of positive drug findings differ.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the utility of three-dimensional (3D) versus conventional two-dimensional (2D) endoscopy for fetal myelomeningocele repair using a low-fidelity fetoscopic surgical simulator.

A low-fidelity fetoscopic box trainer was developed for surgical simulation of myelomeningocele repair. Participants with varying surgical experience were recruited and completed three essential tasks (cutting skin, dural patch placement, and suturing skin) using both 2D and 3D endoscopic visualization. Participants were randomized to begin all tasks in either 2D or 3D. Time to completion was measured for each task, and each participant subsequently completed the NASA Load Index test and a questionnaire evaluating their experience.

Sixteen participants completed the study tasks using both 2D and 3D endoscopes in the simulator. While the mean performance time across all tasks was shorter with 3D versus 2D endoscopy (cutting skin, 47 vs. 54 seconds; dural patch placement, 38 vs. 52 seconds; and suturing skin, 424 vs.
