In recent years, there has been an increase in applications of network science in many different fields. In clinical neuroscience and psychopathology, the developments and applications of network science have occurred mostly simultaneously, but without much collaboration between the two fields. The promise of integrating these network applications lies in a united framework to tackle one of the fundamental questions of our time how to understand the link between brain and behavior. In the current overview, we bridge this gap by introducing conventions in both fields, highlighting similarities, and creating a common language that enables the exploitation of synergies. We provide research examples in autism research, as it accurately represents research lines in both network neuroscience and psychological networks. We integrate brain and behavior not only semantically, but also practically, by showcasing three methodological avenues that allow to combine networks of brain and behavioral data. As such, the current paper offers a stepping stone to further develop multi-modal networks and to integrate brain and behavior.
To determine the trends of antimicrobial resistance for Acinetobacter baumannii complex isolates recovered from inpatients over a 4-year follow-up survey.
A total of 659 Acinetobacter baumannii complex isolates were recovered from hospitalized patients in Porto Alegre and its metropolitan area, Southern Brazil, from 2017 to 2020. Susceptibility profile was determined for ampicillin/sulbactam, amikacin, gentamicin, imipenem, meropenem, minocycline, polymyxin B and tigecycline.
Overall, PMB was the most active agent against the set of A. baumannii isolates over the period. Although stable, a high resistance rate was observed.
Our results shown the presence of an extensively-drug resistant A. baumannii complex isolates over the past four years. Polymyxin B has been the only antimicrobial agent that remain with a good in vitro activity. Strict surveillance and infection control measures are mandatory.

Sleep disorders include insomnia, sleep-disordered breathing, restless legs syndrome, etc. It is well known that inflammation, sympathetic activation, and endothelial dysfunction play critical roles in sleep disorders, all of which are predisposing factors for CVDs. The comorbidity of sleep disorders and CVDs may have a bidirectional relationship. Patients with CVDs may have a high incidence of sleep disorders and vice versa. This review focused on the comorbidity of sleep disorders and CVDs and discussed the potential pathophysiological mechanisms and therapeutic strategies. In addition to the existing mechanisms, this review summarized novel potential mechanisms underlying comorbidities, such as gut microbiota, orexin, and extracellular vesicles, which may provide a theoretical basis for further basic research and clinical investigations on improving therapeutic outcomes.Hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives are an important class of polyphenols found in fruits, vegetables, and medicinal plants and widely consumed in human diet. In the present work, alterations of HepG2 cells biochemical profile under the effect of four hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives (caffeic acid, m-coumaric acid, chlorogenic acid and rosmarinic acid) relatively to the effect of pravastatin, a drug often prescribed to inhibit HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, the regulator enzyme in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, were reported. The application of FTIR spectroscopy in combination with multivariate analysis by PCA showed a similarity between pravastatin and the four hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives in metabolite profile modification expressed by various changes in proteins region, the phosphate region which mainly corresponds to nucleic acids as well as in lipids regions. FTIR structural analysis in the amide I region, using resolution enhancement methods, such as second derivative and amide I deconvolution method, revealed significant decrease in α-helix/random coil and intermolecular β-sheet decreased while intramolecular β-sheet in treated cells showed an increase. It was also noticed that the intracellular cholesterol as well as esterified ingredients such as cholesterol esters in the cell membrane decreased. Moreover, principal component analysis (PCA) of the spectral data showed that the compounds and pravastatin were well separated from untreated cells showing a different mode of action on HepG2 treated cells for each compound.
To report on long-term results of elective pelvic nodal irradiation (EPNI) and a simultaneous hypofractionated prostate boost for high-risk prostate cancer.
This was a prospective single-arm study. Patients with high-risk disease (cT3, PSA >20ng/mL, or Gleason score 8-10) were eligible. Patients received 45Gy in 25 fractions to the prostate and pelvic lymph nodes with a simultaneous intensity-modulated radiotherapy boost of 22.5Gy to the prostate (total dose 67.5Gy in 25 fractions), with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for 2-3years. The primary endpoint was biochemical failure. Secondary endpoints included distant metastases and overall survival. Multivariable analysis was performed to look for predictive factors. Late toxicity was assessed using CTCAE v3.0.
230 patients enrolled. Median follow-up was 11.2years (IQR 8.1-12.9). At 10years, cumulative incidence of biochemical failure was 33.4%, distant metastasis was 16.5%, and overall survival was 76.3%. On multivariable analysis, PSA nadir ≥0.05ng/mL was associated with biochemical failure (HR 6.8, 95% CI 4-11.8, p<0.001) and distant metastases (HR 7.5, 95% CI 3.9-14.5, p<0.0001). PSA nadir ≥0.1ng/mL (HR 5.2, 95% 2.2-12, p=0.0001) and ADT use ≤12months (versus >24months) (HR 2.3, 95% CI 1.3-3.9, p=0.004) were associated with worse survival. The 5-year cumulative incidence of any late grade ≥3 gastrointestinal and genitourinary toxicity was 2.3% and 7.5%, respectively.

EPNI and a simultaneous hypofractionated prostate boost combined with long-term ADT for high-risk prostate cancer resulted in acceptable 10-year biochemical control and survival with low grade ≥3 toxicity.This literature review aimed to assess the outcomes of robot-assisted laparoscopic extra-vesical ureteral reimplantation (RALUR/REVUR) in standard, complex and re-operative cases. Twenty-two studies (period 2008-2019) containing 1362 children receiving RALUR/REVUR, were included. Unilateral repair was faster compared to bilateral (P = .0000). The overall patient success rate was 92%. The mean post-operative complications rate was 10.7%. The mean re-operations rate was 3.9%. The available data show that RALUR/REVUR can be a first line surgical approach for pediatric vesicoureteral reflux at most centers with the caveat that learning curves for the surgeons are expected as with most new surgical procedures.
To assess whether pandemic-related restrictions with video-based interviewing increased geographic clustering of urology applicants matching at a residency program near where they were raised or attended medical school.
We utilized publicly available data from the urology match to compare dispersal patterns between applicants matching during the COVID-19 application cycle (2021) and those matching in the 5 prior application cycles (2016-2020). Variables included home state, undergraduate institution, medical school, and residency. Latitudes and longitudes were obtained for each institution and home state. The primary endpoint was distance (miles, as the most direct path) between medical school and residency program. We also assessed dispersal patterns by American Urological Association section.
Of the 1965 applicants matching to a urology program between 2016 and 2021, medical school was identified for 1956 (99.7%) applicants, undergraduate program for 1551 (79%) applicants, and home state for 1351 (69%) applicants. Comparing the COVID-19 application cycle to the 5 prior application cycles, there was no significant difference in the median distance between medical school and residency, undergraduate university and residency, or home state and residency. Similarly, there was no significant difference in the proportion of applicants matching at their home institution, matching from medical schools without a home urology program, matching from medical schools with a historically low volume of urology applicants (<1 matched applicant per year), or matching from a D.O.

The diversity and number of modifications on proteins increase the complexity of cellular proteomes by orders of magnitude. Several proteomic and molecular studies have revealed an abundance of PTMs in malaria parasite proteome, where mediators of PTMs play crucial roles in parasite pathogenesis and transmission. In this article, we discuss recent findings in asexual stages of ten diverse PTMs and investigate whether these proteins are expressed in sexual stages. We discovered 25-50 % of proteins exhibiting post-translational modifications in asexual stages are also expressed in sexual stage gametocytes. Moreover we analyse the function of the modified proteins shared with the gametocyte proteome and try to encourage the scientific community to investigate the roles of diverse PTMs beyond phosphorylation in sexual stages which could not only reveal unique aspects of parasite biology, but also uncover new avenues for transmission blocking.Disease labels and causal explanations for certain symptoms or conditions have been found to have both positive and negative outcomes.
