RBD-conjugated outer membrane vesicles (RBD-OMVs) were used to immunize the golden Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) model of COVID-19. Intranasal immunization resulted in high titres of blood anti-RBD IgG as well as detectable mucosal responses. Neutralizing antibody activity against wild-type and Delta variants was evident in all vaccinated subjects. Upon challenge with live virus, hamsters immunized with RBD-OMV, but not animals immunized with unconjugated OMVs or a vehicle control, avoided body mass loss, had lower virus titres in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, and experienced less severe lung pathology. Our results emphasize the value and versatility of OMV-based vaccine approaches.
To evaluate the efficacy and outcome of transarterial embolization (TAE) plus octreotide long-acting repeatable (LAR) on patients with low-to-intermediate neuroendocrine tumor liver metastases (NETLM).

One hundred and sixteen patients with G1/G2 NETLM treated with TAE plus octreotide LAR at the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University between January 12, 2016 and September 24, 2020 were reviewed. Radiological response was evaluated according to response evaluation criterion in solid tumor version 1.1. Overall progression-free survival (PFS) was assessed. Intrahepatic and extrahepatic PFS were evaluated in the whole cohort and in patients with the extrahepatic disease (EHD), respectively. Factors affecting treatment response and overall PFS were analyzed using the logistic regression model and Cox proportional hazard model. Adverse events were recorded and evaluated according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events 5.0.

Therefore, for having a successful treatment, the physical problem requires to know several properties due to the high variability from individual to individual, or even for the same individual under different physiological conditions. This article presents a numerical simulation of hyperthermia therapy for cancer treatment using HIFU, as well as the estimation of parameters that influence the physical problem. Two mathematical models were considered to solve the forward problem. The acoustic model based on acoustic pressure performs a frequency-domain study, and the bioheat transfer model a time-dependent study. These models were solved using Comsol Multiphysics® software in a 2D-axisymmetric rectangular domain to determine the temperature field. Parameter estimation was coded in Matlab Mathworks® environment using a Bayesian approach. The Markov Chain Monte Carlo method by the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm was implemented, and the simulated temperature measurements were considered. Results suggest that specific HIFU therapy can be performed for each patient by estimating appropriate parameters for cancer treatment and provides the possibility to define procedures before and during the treatment.

We conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) with GS 9-10 PCa treated with radical prostatectomy (RP) or external beam radiation therapy with androgen deprivation therapy (EBRT+ADT) from 1/2000 to 12/2010. Outcomes included overall survival (OS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and salvage/adjuvant therapy-free survival (SAFS), as assessed by Kaplan-Meier analysis.

We identified 1220 veterans with GS 9-10 PCa; 335 were treated with RP, and 885 were treated with EBRT+ADT. With a median follow-up of 9.9years, propensity score-matched analyses demonstrated that RP had superior 10-year OS (70.8% [RP] vs. 61.2% [EBRT+ADT], p<0.001), 10-year DMFS rates were similar between RP (76.7%) and EBRT+ADT (81.0%), and 10-year SAFS rates were lower for RP vs EBRT + ADT (35.2% [RP] vs. 75.2% [EBRT+ADT], p<0.001). Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is often accompanied by myelopathy, which may be associated with progressive worsening. A specific finding of MS-associated myelopathy is McArdle sign, wherein neck flexion is associated with prominent increased limb weakness relative to that detected with neck extension. In this study, we characterized neuromotor control properties of finger extensors in association with the McArdle sign.

A custom-built device was utilized to monitor torque production of the wrist extensors with simultaneous recording of surface electromyography of the extensor digitorum. The electromyography was decomposed and analyzed via both linear and nominal regressions.

Linear regressions demonstrated a strong difference between groups for MS from healthy controls and other myelopathies for motor unit action potential amplitude and average firing rate (p < 0.001). Further, linear regression demonstrated good correlations of neuromotor variables to mechanical torque output (0.24 ≤ R
 ≤ 0.76). Nominal regression distinguished MS from healthy controls with an AUC of 0.87, specificity of 0.97, and sensitivity of 0.64. Nominal regression of MS from other myelopathies demonstrated an AUC of 0.88, specificity of 0.85, and sensitivity of 0.79.

Although these conditions have a predilection for pulmonary and renal involvement, they are in fact protean diseases that can involve essentially any organ system. AAV is among the most difficult rheumatic diseases to diagnose and treat. Therapy for AAV has evolved over the past two decades. Rituximab, an anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody, is now the preferred agent for remission induction in conjunction with a reduced-dose glucocorticoid taper. Rituximab is also often a key therapy for remission maintenance. Glucocorticoid toxicity reduction has become a major priority for treatment regimens. Avacopan, an important new adjunct to remission induction therapy, may reduce glucocorticoid use and its resulting toxicity. The role of avacopan as a remission maintenance agent requires further study. The duration of immunosuppression following remission is guided by a number of factors, including the patient's overall clinical state, the degree of damage from previous disease activity, the tolerability of remission maintenance medications, and SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and immunity status. Certain features, including history of previous relapse, the presence of ANCA directed against proteinase 3, and a diagnosis of granulomatosis with polyangiitis, favor prolonged remission maintenance therapy. These and further experiments suggested a basic mode of CO2 /carbonate reduction at Cu electrodes interfaces that contrasted previous mechanistic models the starting point in carbon reduction was not CO2 but carbonate ions bound to the metallic Cu electrode in form of CuCarHyd structures. It was hypothesized that Cu oxides residues could enhance CO2 RR indirectly by supporting formation of CuCarHyd motifs. The presence of CuCarHyd patches at catalytic potentials might result from alkalization in conjunction with local electrical potential gradients, enabling the formation of metastable CuCarHyd motifs over a large range of potentials.
Adaptive communication is an essential requirement to deliver quality patient-centred care. Determining patients' informational needs and acting on the needs are skills radiation therapists (RTs) employ daily with patients. Learning health literacy (HL) strategies to assist with the informational delivery provides RTs with options to improve patients' understanding of vital radiotherapy treatment information or tasks. This research investigates the lived experiences of RTs from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centres in Australia using HL strategies during patient interactions after undertaking HL training workshops.

An interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) approach was used. Audio-recorded semi-structured interviews were conducted with six RTs. Two reviewers analysed each interview script separately before discussing and constructing substantive and sub-themes.

Four substantive themes were constructed RT personal attitudes and responses to HL, HL strategies used by RTs, patient associated HL needs and barriers when addressing patient HL needs.
