Coronary tortuosity (C-Tor) is a common finding in coronary angiography (CAG). There are conflicting data about its link to atherosclerosis one study found a negative relationship with coronary artery disease (CAD), although it had been linked to age and hypertension (HTN), which are CAD risk factors. Carotid intima-media thickness (C-IMT) is a measure of early atherosclerosis and a surrogate for CAD, diastolic dysfunction is also associated with CAD risk factors. In this retrospective case-control study, we investigated the relationship between C-Tor, C-IMT, diastolic dysfunction, and the other risk factors in patients undergoing CAG in a tertiary hospital between July 2017 and June 2018, after excluding patients with significant CAD. C-Tor was defined as the presence of ≥ 3 bends (≥ 45°) along the trunk of at least one main coronary artery in CAG.
After excluding 663 patients due to exclusion criteria, 30 patients with C-Tor were compared with age and gender-matched controls. HTN was significantly more d specificity for C-Tor prediction (0.88, 73.3%, and 96.7% respectively) followed by DT (0.86, 66.67%, and 96.6% respectively).
C-Tor is associated with increased C-IMT, HTN, hyperlipidemia, and left ventricular diastolic dysfunction; all contributing to an ongoing atherosclerotic process. A-wave velocity and DT were independent predictors of C-Tor. C-Tor may cause microvascular ischemia that merits further investigation.

The amount of signal decreases when the acquisition duration is shortened. However, it is not clear how this affects the quantitative values. This study aims to clarify the effect of acquisition time shortening in brain tumor PET/CT using
C-methionine on the quantitative values.
This study was a retrospective analysis of 30 patients who underwent clinical
C-methionine PET/CT examination. PET images were acquired in list mode for 10 min. PET images of acquisition duration from 1 to 10 min with 1-min step were reconstructed. We examined the effect on the quantitative values of acquisition duration. We placed a volume of interest to include the entire tumor and regions of interest in the shape of a large crescent in the contralateral hemisphere in 5 contiguous axial slices as normal tissue. Quantitative values examined were maximum, peak, and mean standardized uptake values (SUVmax, SUVpeak, SUVmean), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and maximum tumor to normal tissue ratio (TNRmax), with each duration compared to that with 10 min.
SUVmax, MTV, and TNRmax showed the highest values due to the effects of statistical noise when the acquisition time was 1 min. These values were stable when the acquisition duration was > 6 min. SUVpeak and SUVmean showed mostly consistent values regardless of duration.
SUVmax, MTV, and TNRmax are affected by acquisition time. If the acquisition duration was > 6 min, the fluctuation could be suppressed within 5% in these quantitative values. However, SUVpeak was suggested to be a robust index regardless of the acquisition duration.

The main reason for the maize genotype "DKC7221" to be heat tolerant is to have higher photosynthetic activity under heat stress conditions. The genotype "P3167" is sensitive to high temperature because of the heat-induced inhibition in photosynthetic electron transport reactions. In the present study, the effect of heat stress (45ºC for 20min) on some physiological changes was investigated through a chlorophyll afluorescence technique, and some endogenous resistance mechanisms (activities of some antioxidant enzymes, free proline, and reduced ascorbate contents) in two maize cultivars (Zea mays L. cvs. P3167 and DKC7221). Chlorophyll fluorescence measurements demonstrated that heat stress led to the reduction in the efficiency of the Hill reaction, accumulation of inactive reaction centers, inhibition of electron flow from reaction centers to the plastoquinone pool, and induction of non-photochemical dissipation of absorbed light energy. indicated that electron transpotosynthetic efficiency in P3167 under heat stress, oxidative stress appeared as shown by lower antioxidant activity, accumulation of H2O2, malondialdehyde, and formazon and photooxidative injuries in chlorophyll pigments in the leaf tissue. DKC7221, on the other hand, had a higher antioxidant efficiency and lower oxidative damage under heat stress. FeSOD activity was found to be responsible for the dismutation of superoxide radicals in both maize genotypes under heat stress. As a result, it may be concluded that the genotype DKC7221 is more tolerant to heat stress than P3167.The abiotic synthesis of histidine under experimental prebiotic conditions has proven to be chemically promising and plausible. Within this context, the present results suggest that histidine amino acid may function as a simple prebiotic catalyst able to enhance amino acid polymerization. This work describes an experimental and computational approach to the self-assembly and stabilization of DL-histidine on mineral surfaces using antigorite ((Mg, Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4), pyrite (FeS2), and aragonite (CaCO3) as representative minerals of prebiotic scenarios, such as meteorites, and subaerial and submarine hydrothermal systems. Experimental results were obtained through polarized-light microscopy, IR spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Molecular dynamics was performed through computational simulations with the MM + method in HyperChem software. IR spectra suggest the presence of peptide bonds in the antigorite-histidine and aragonite-histidine assemblages with the presence of amide I and amide II vibration bands. The FTIR second derivative inspection supports this observation. Moreover, DSC data shows histidine stabilization in the presence of antigorite and aragonite by changes in histidine thermodynamic properties, particularly an increase in histidine decomposition temperature (272ºC in antigorite and 275ºC in aragonite). Results from molecular dynamics are consistent with DSC data, suggesting an antigorite-histidine closer interaction with decreased molecular distances (cca. 5.5 Å) between the amino acid and the crystal surface. On the whole, the experimental and computational outcomes support the role of mineral surfaces in prebiotic chemical evolution as enhancers of organic stability.A large number of early life exposures predict child maltreatment. Using data from a 30-year birth cohort study we examine 12 early life course risk factors of four types of self-reported childhood maltreatment recalled at the 30-year follow-up. It was established for the first time that MMP2 is a direct target of miR-20a. The results also elucidated that Nucleolin binds to MMP2 3' UTR and its abundance affects MMP2 expression.
The phase 3 multinational SCARLET study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a recombinant human soluble thrombomodulin (ART-123) for treatment of sepsis-associated coagulopathy (SAC), which correlates with increased mortality risk in patients with sepsis. Although no significant reduction in mortality was observed with ART-123 compared with placebo in the full analysis set (FAS), an efficacy signal of ART-123 was observed in subgroups of patients who sustained coagulopathy until the first treatment and those not administered concomitant heparin. Post hoc analysis was performed of patients treated in France, the country with the largest enrollment (19% of the FAS) and consistent patient enrollment throughout the study duration.

As the elderly represent a substantial proportion of medical care beneficiaries, and there is limited data about age disparity in emerging countries, this study sought to investigate the impact of age on the management in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndromes (NSTE-ACS).
Two hundred patients with NSTE-ACS enrolled prospectively, patients' data, pharmacotherapy, management strategy as well timing to catheterization were documented. Patients grouped into ≥ 65 years versus < 65 years; 32.5% were ≥ 65-year-old. The older group presented as high GRACE risk (Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events) (67.7% versus 15.6%). Elderly patients were less likely to be referred for catheterization compared with younger counterparts (55.4% versus 76.3%, p = 0.003).
