These risks were further accentuated among men meeting criteria for hereditary prostate cancer, and further still for those with early-onset or aggressive disease. Among hereditary prostate cancer cases diagnosed under age 60 and with aggressive disease, joint inheritance carried a risk of OR = 27.7 relative to controls, P = 2E-8. The HOXB sentinel variant pair more fully captured genetic risk for prostate cancer within the study populations than either variant alone.CuAl2O4 is a ternary oxide spinel with Cu2+ ions ([Formula see text]) primarily populating the A-site diamond sublattice. The compound is reported to display evidence of spin glass behavior but possess a non-frozen magnetic ground state below the transition temperature. On the other hand, the spinel CuGa2O4 displays spin glass behavior at ~ 2.5 K with Cu2+ ions more readily tending to the B-site pyrochlore sublattice. Therefore, we investigate the magnetic and structural properties of the solid solution CuAl2(1-x)Ga2xO4 examining the evolution of the magnetic behavior as Al3+ is replaced with a much larger Ga3+ ion. Our results show that the Cu2+ ions tend to migrate from tetrahedral to octahedral sites as the Ga3+ ion concentration increases, resulting in a concomitant change in the glassy magnetic properties of the solution. Results indicate glassy behavior for much of the solution with a general trend towards decreasing magnetic frustration as the Cu2+ ion shifts to the B-site. However, the [Formula see text] and 0.2 members of the system do not show glassy behavior down to our measurement limit (1.9 K) suggesting a delayed spin glass transition. We suggest that these two members are additional candidates for investigation to access highly frustrated exotic quantum states.A novel method of macroscopically entangled light-pair generation is presented for a quantum laser using randomness-based deterministic phase control of coherent light in a coupled Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). Unlike the particle nature-based quantum correlation in conventional quantum mechanics, the wave nature of photons is applied for collective phase control of coherent fields, resulting in a deterministically controllable nonclassical phenomenon. For the proof of principle, the entanglement between output light fields from a coupled MZI is examined using the Hong-Ou-Mandel-type anticorrelation technique, where the anticorrelation is a direct evidence of the nonclassical features in an interferometric scheme. For the generation of random phase bases between two bipartite input coherent fields, a deterministic control of opposite frequency shifts results in phase sensitive anticorrelation, which is a macroscopic quantum feature.A multidisciplinary approach was used to investigate the causes of the distributions and sinking rates of transparent exopolymer particles (TEPs) during the period of September-October (2017) in the Western Pacific Ocean (WPO); the study period was closely dated to a northwest typhoon surge. The present study discussed the impact of biogeophysical features on TEPs and their sinking rates (sTEP) at depths of 0-150 m. During the study, the concentration of TEPs was found to be higher in areas adjacent to the Kuroshio current and in the bottom water layer of the Mindanao upwelling zone due to the widespread distribution of cyanobacteria, i.e., Trichodesmium hildebrandti and T. theibauti. The positive significant regressions of TEP concentrations with Chl-a contents in eddy-driven areas (R2 = 0.73, especially at 100 m (R2 = 0.75)) support this hypothesis. However, low TEP concentrations and TEPs were observed at mixed layer depths (MLDs) in the upwelling zone (Mindanao). Conversely, high TEP concentrations and high sTEP were found at the bottom of the downwelling zone (Halmahera). The geophysical directions of eddies may have caused these conditions. In demonstrating these relations, the average interpretation showed the negative linearity of TEP concentrations with TEPs (R2 = 0.41 ~ 0.65) at such eddies. Additionally, regression curves (R2 = 0.78) indicated that atmospheric pressure played a key role in the changes in TEPs throughout the study area. Diatoms and cyanobacteria also curved the TEPs significantly (R2 = 0.5, P less then 0.05) at the surface of the WPO. This study also revealed that TEP concentration contributes less to the average particulate organic carbon in this oligotrophic WPO.Residual intra-peritoneal gas may be associated with post-laparoscopic shoulder pain (PLSP), which is a frequently and disturbance compliant after surgery. Herein, we aimed to examine whether expiring residual gas via a surgical drain reduces the frequency and intensity of PLSP in the first day after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. 448 participants were enrolled in this prospective cohort study. The incidence and severity of PLSP after surgery were recorded. Of these, the cumulative incidence of PLSP in the drain group was lower particularly at the 12th postoperative hour (18.3% vs. 27.6%; P = 0.022), 24th postoperative hour (28.8% vs. 38.1%; P = 0.039), and throughout the first postoperative day (P = 0.035). The drain group had less severe PLSP (crude Odds ratio, 0.66; P = .036). After adjustment using inverse probability of treatment weighting, the drain group also had a significant lower PLSP incidence (adjusted hazard ratio = 0.61, P less then 0.001), and less severe PLSP (adjusted odds ratio = 0.56, P less then 0.001). In conclusion, the maneuver about passive force to expel residual gas, surgical drain use, contributes to reduce the incidence and severity of PLSP, suggesting that to minimize residual gas at the end of surgery is useful to attenuate PLSP.Target of rapamycin (TOR) is a conserved central growth regulator in eukaryotes that has a key role in maintaining cellular nutrient and energy status. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are mutualistic symbionts that assist the plant in increasing nutrient absorption from the rhizosphere. However, the role of legume TOR in AM fungal symbiosis development has not been investigated. In this study, we examined the function of legume TOR in the development and formation of AM fungal symbiosis. RNA-interference-mediated knockdown of TOR transcripts in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) hairy roots notably suppressed AM fungus-induced lateral root formation by altering the expression of root meristem regulatory genes, i.e., UPB1, RGFs, and sulfur assimilation and S-phase genes. Mycorrhized PvTOR-knockdown roots had significantly more extraradical hyphae and hyphopodia than the control (empty vector) roots. Strong promoter activity of PvTOR was observed at the site of hyphal penetration and colonization. Colonization along the root length was affected in mycorrhized PvTOR-knockdown roots and the arbuscules were stunted. Furthermore, the expression of genes induced by AM symbiosis such as SWEET1, VPY, VAMP713, and STR was repressed under mycorrhized conditions in PvTOR-knockdown roots. Based on these observations, we conclude that PvTOR is a key player in regulating arbuscule development during AM symbiosis in P. vulgaris. These results provide insight into legume TOR as a potential regulatory factor influencing the symbiotic associations of P. vulgaris and other legumes.Heat stress negatively affects health and production in cows. Examining the cellular response to heat stress could reveal underlying protective molecular mechanisms associated with superior resilience and ultimately enable selection for more resilient cattle. We examined genome-wide DNA methylation of blood mononuclear cells (BMCs) isolated from high and low cows, before and after in vitro heat stress. We identified differential methylation of promoter regions associated with a variety of biological processes including immune function, stress response, apoptosis, and cell signalling. The specific differentially methylated promoter regions differed between samples from high and low cows, and results revealed pathways associated with cellular protection during heat stress.Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is strongly associated with metabolic dysregulations/deregulations and hyperglycemia is a common metabolic disturbance in metabolic diseases. Hyperglycemia is defined to promote epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) of cancer cells in various cancers but its molecular contribution to HCC progression and aggressiveness is relatively unclear. In this study, we analyzed the molecular mechanisms behind the hyperglycemia-induced EMT in HCC cell lines. Here, we report that high glucose promotes EMT through activating c-Met receptor tyrosine kinase via promoting its ligand-independent homodimerization. c-Met activation is critical for high glucose induced acquisition of mesenchymal phenotype, survival under high glucose stress and reprogramming of cellular metabolism by modulating glucose metabolism gene expression to promote aggressiveness in HCC cells. The crucial role of c-Met in high glucose induced EMT and aggressiveness may be the potential link between metabolic syndrome-related hepatocarcinogenesis and/or HCC progression. Considering c-Met inhibition in hyperglycemic patients would be an important complementary strategy for therapy that favors sensitization of HCC cells to therapeutics.The present study aims to investigate the possible influence of solar/geomagnetic forcing on climate variables, such as the drought index, Danube discharge and large-scale atmospheric indices. Our analysis was performed separately for each season for two time periods, 1901-2000 and 1948-2000. The relationship between terrestrial variables and external indices was established based on the application of (1) information theory elements, namely, synergy, redundancy, total correlation, transfer entropy and (2) wavelet coherence analysis. Bandpass filtering has also been applied. The most significant signature of the solar/geomagnetic forcing in the climate variables was obtained for the data smoothed by the bandpass filter. According to our results, significant solar/geomagnetic forcing appears in the terrestrial variables with a delay of 2-3 years.To investigate the efficacy of 125I seed implantation in the treatment regimen of pelvic recurrence after early cervical cancer surgery and to analyse prognostic factors. To evaluate efficacy and analyse prognostic factors of 125I seed implantation for pelvic recurrence after early cervical cancer surgery. A prospective study was conducted on 62 patients who experienced pelvic recurrence after early cervical cancer surgery between August 2005 and September 2015. The 62 patients were treated and assessed in 2 groups (n = 30). All 62 patients were randomized into two groups that received two different treatment regimens the treatment group (n = 30), which received 125I particle implantation therapy, and the control group (n = 32), which received whole-pelvic irradiation using the anteroposterior/posteroanterior field and cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiation therapy. The efficacy/efficiency of 125I seed implantation and prognostic factors were analysed by logistic regression. Overall survival was determined by Kaplan-Meier analysis.
