The aim of this study was to characterize the branching pattern and morphology of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA), and also to create a new SMA classification, which seems necessary for clinicians performing surgery in this anatomical area. AEBSF The anatomical variations in the branching patterns of the SMA were examined in 30 cadavers fixed in 10% formalin. Morphometric measurements were then obtained twice by two researchers. In the proposed classification system, Type I, characterized by all normal branches-inferior pancreatoduodenal artery, ileocolic artery, right colic artery, middle colic artery and intestinal arteries-occurred in 53.33% of the specimens. Type II, characterized by absence of the inferior pancreatoduodenal artery, was present in 26.67%. Type III, characterized by absence of the right colic artery, was present in 3.33%. Type IV, characterized by a common trunk for the inferior pancreatoduodenal artery and middle colic arteries, was observed in 3.33%. Type V, characterized by an aberrant hepatic artery and absence of the inferior pancreatoduodenal artery, was observed in 13.33%. The origin of the SMA was at the Th12/L1 level in 10% of cases, at L1 in 43.33%, at L1/L2 in 36.67%, and at L2 in 10%. The SMA is characterized by high morphological variability, the variants being associated with distinct clinical aspects. The introduction of a new, structured, anatomical classification seems necessary for all clinicians.
Accumulating evidence shows that pleomorphic adenoma (PA) exhibits a unique capsular invasion and with a crucial role in recurrence. This study was designed to explore RNA expression profiles in salivary gland PA in an attempt to further analyse genes associate with capsule invasion.

We evaluated the expression profiles of 4salivary gland PA patients by RNA-sequencing. The principal functions of the differentially expressed mRNAs (DEGs) were explored using GO and KEGG analysis. Then, RT-qPCR and correlation analyses were performed to verify the candidate DEGs in 59 PA patients, and immunohistochemical examinations were conducted to validate candidate DEGs. Finally, the COMP-related genes were screened using correlation and biological pathway enrichment analysis, and further validated by RT-qPCR.

A total of 974 DEGs were significantly upregulated, and 1464 were downregulated (fold change ≥2.0; p<0.05). Based on GO and KEGG analyses, extracellular matrix organization and the PI3K-Akt signalling pathway might play pivotal roles in the tumorigenesis of PA. 40 DEGs were screened and validated by RT-qPCR, 11 upregulated and 5 downregulated DEGs were consistent with the sequencing results. Cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) was identified to have a significant correlation with the capsular invasion of PA and expression of COMP in patients with invasive capsular PA was significantly stronger than PA. Finally, further results could reveal that 5highest scoring genes were screened as hub genes for COMP.

These findings suggested that COMP may be a prognostic target for PA and might contribute to its capsular invasion.

Ejaculates were collected via artificial vagina from six mature Holstein bulls once weekly for 6 weeks. All ejaculates had motility ≥70%, sperm concentration ≥1.0 × 109 /ml and ≤15% morphologically abnormal sperm. Each week, semen was pooled and diluted with lecithin-based extenders containing various concentrations of encapsulated (E0, E1, E2.5 and E5 mM) or free (F0, F1, F2.5 and F5 mM) GSH, with total glutathione content determined before and after cryopreservation. Total GSH in fresh semen was (mean+SEM) 4.8 ± 0.2 nmol/108 sperm, whereas in frozen-thawed semen of group F0 (control), it decreased to 1.4 ± 0.2 nmol/108 sperm, a 70.8% reduction (p less then .05). In addition, total GSH in frozen-thawed semen from groups E2.5, E5 and F5 were 2.4 ± 0.2, 2.8 ± 0.2 and 1.8 ± 0.2 nmol/108 sperm, respectively (E5 versus. F0, p less then .05). Compared to group F0, frozen-thawed sperm from group E2.5 had greater (p less then .05) percentages of sperm that were viable (Annexin-V) (61.1 ± 1.8 versus. 71.1 ± 1.8) and that had cell membrane integrity (eosin-nigrosin) (64.5 ± 3.1 versus. 80.0 ± 3.1). Furthermore, frozen-thawed sperm from group E2.5 had the numerically highest total and progressive motility (CASA) and cell membrane functionality (HOS) and the lowest percentage of early apoptotic sperm (Annexin-V). However, acrosome membrane integrity (PSA) of E5 had the lowest mean (p less then .05), whereas E2.5 caused a small nonsignificant decrease (69.1 ± 1.4%) compared to E0 and F0. In conclusion, 2.5 mM encapsulated GSH in semen extender significantly improved the quality of frozen-thawed bull sperm. This study evaluated the protective effect of grape seed on performance, caecal characteristics, blood metabolites and liver antioxidant status in lindane-treated rabbits. Four-week-old New Zealand White rabbits (n = 96) with an initial body weight of 0.750 ± 0.23 g were randomly divided into four groups (n = 24). One group was the control received only corn oil orally, while group L were received lindane daily via gavage in corn oil (4 mg/kg BW; 1/50 LD50 for oral dose), group GS was treated with 50 g grape seed /kg diet, and group LGS treated with a combination of both L and GS for 98 days. Results revealed that final body weight (FBW), average daily gain (ADG), dry matter intake and feed efficiency (FE) were similar between GS and control groups, and achieved the highest FBW and ADG, and the best FE. Caecum pH of the L group increased, while the caecum pH of the GS group decreased sharply. There was a significant increase in the concentration of total VFA, acetic acid, propionic acid and NH3 -N in the GS group, but butyric acid level decreased. GS treatment resulted in a significant increase in the concentrations of total protein, albumin and AChE. GPx, GST, CAT and SOD activity decreased, but TBARS activity significantly increased in the group L, while GS caused a significant elevation of antioxidant activity in the liver. These results confirm that the antioxidant compounds present in grape seed can alleviate the oxidative stress caused by lindane-induced hepatotoxicity and could be a useful supplement to maintain health and improve performance in rabbits.Physiological properties of (R)-nicotine have differences compared with (S)-nicotine, and the subject of (S)- and (R)-nicotine ratio in smoking or vaping related items is of considerable interest. A Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method for the analysis of (S)- and (R)-nicotine has been developed and applied to samples of nicotine from different sources, nicotine pyrolyzates, several types of tobacco, smoke from combustible cigarettes, smoke from heated tobacco products, e-liquids, and particulate matter obtained from e-cigarettes aerosol. The separation was achieved on a Chiracel OJ-3 column, 250 × 4.6 mm with 3-μm particles using a nonaqueous mobile phase. The detection was performed using atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) in positive mode. The only transition measured for the analysis of nicotine was 163.1 → 84.0. The method has been summarily validated. For the analysis, the samples of tobacco and smoke from combustible cigarettes were subject to a cleanup procedure using solid phase extraction (SPE). It was demonstrated that nicotine upon heating above 450°C for several minutes starts decomposing, and some formation of (R)-enantiomer from a sample of 99% (S)-nicotine is observed. An analogous process takes place when a 99% (R)-nicotine is heated and forms low levels of (S)-nicotine. This interconversion has the effect of slightly increasing the content of (R)-nicotine in smoke compared with the level in tobacco for combustible cigarettes and for heated tobacco products. The (S)/(R) ratio of nicotine enantiomers in e-liquids was identical with the ratio for the particulate phase of aerosols generated by e-cigarette vaping.Accurate localization and characterization of peripheral nerve injuries adjacent to metallic hardware is difficult with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) due to susceptibility artifact. This study sought to present the use of high-resolution ultrasound (US) in accurate characterization of radial nerve injury adjacent to metallic hardware, using findings at the time of operative exploration as confirmation of the US assessment. A retrospective chart review of cases with clinically identified radial nerve injuries evaluated by the high-resolution US was performed from January 2015 through December 2019. Preoperative clinical data, US reports, MRI reports, electrodiagnostic (EDx) reports, and operative reports were reviewed for each case. Preoperative US correctly characterized the affected nerve component, type, and location of injury in all 13 cases (100%), when correlated with intraoperative findings. Nerve injury was directly adjacent to metallic hardware in 12 cases (92%). Out of the seven cases evaluated by both US and MRI, US correctly accurately diagnosed radial nerve injuries in all cases, whereas MRI accurately diagnosed in four cases (57%). In 3/7 cases (43%) MRI was nondiagnostic due to susceptibility artifact. MRI evaluation of the nerve was limited to some degree by metallic artifact in 6/7 cases (85%).
We compared different econometric specifications to model the use of medical services in Chile, focussing on visits to general practitioners and specialist physicians.

The evaluated models are the Poisson, Negative Binomial, Zero Inflated Poisson and Negative Binomial, two-step Hurdle model, sample-selection Poisson, and Latent Class model. These models were estimated using Chilean data for the years 2009 and 2015, separated by gender.

Unlike previous literature that supported the use of the latent class model, our results show that the latent class model is not always the model with the best goodness of fit. Furthermore, the model with the best fit is not necessarily the model with the best predictive power. For instance, depending on the year and medical services, either the latent class model or the sample-selection Poisson model performs better than the other models. The results also show that the selection of the econometric model may have implications for the estimated influence that variables such as age, income, or affiliation to the public versus private sector have on the use of medical services.

Using Chilean data, we have tested that the selection of an econometric method to model the use of medical services is not a problem with a unique answer. We recommend performing a sensitivity analysis of goodness of fit and predictive power between gender, healthcare services, or different years of datasets in future applications to be sure about the best model specification in each context.
