Note that BRII and SFI methods are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary because each method has its own advantages in differentiating FHB resistance between genotypes. Combining these two methods would significantly improve the reliability and consistency of FHB phenotyping in wheat.Chinese wheat landrace Anyuehong (AYH) has displayed high levels of stable adult plant resistance (APR) to stripe rust for >15 years. To identify quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for stripe rust resistance in AYH, a set of 110 recombinant inbred lines (RILs) was developed from a cross between AYH and susceptible cultivar Taichung 29. The parents and RILs were evaluated for final disease severity (FDS) in six field tests with a mixture of predominant Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici races at the adult plant stage and genotyped via the wheat 55K single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array to construct a genetic map with 1,143 SNP markers. Three QTLs, designated as QYr.AYH-1AS, QYr.AYH-5BL, and QYr.AYH-7DS, were mapped on chromosome 1AS, 5BL, and 7DS, respectively. RILs combining three QTLs showed significantly lower FDS compared with the lines in other combinations. Of them, QYr.AYH-5BL and QYr.AYH-7DS were stably detected in all environments, explaining 13.6 to 21.4% and 17.6 to 33.6% of phenotypic variation, respectively. Compared with previous studies, QYr.AYH-5BL may be a new QTL, whereas QYr.AYH-7DS may be Yr18. Haplotype analysis revealed that QYr.AYH-5BL is probably present in 6.2% of the 323 surveyed Chinese wheat landraces. The kompetitive allele specific PCR (KASP) markers for QYr.AYH-5BL were developed by the linked SNP markers to successfully confirm the effects of the QTL in a validation population derived from a residual heterozygous line and were further assessed in 38 Chinese wheat landraces and 92 cultivars. Our results indicated that QYr.AYH-5BL with linked KASP markers has potential value for marker-assisted selection to improve stripe rust resistance in breeding programs.Huanglongbing (HLB) disease of citrus, which is associated with the bacterium 'Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus', has been confined to residential properties in Southern California 8 years after it was first detected in the state. To prevent the spread of HLB to commercial citrus groves, growers have been asked to adopt a portfolio of voluntary best management practices. This study evaluates the citrus industry's propensity to adopt these practices using surveys and a novel multivariate ordinal regression model. We estimate the impact on adoption of perceived vulnerability to HLB, intentions to stay informed and communicate about the disease and various socio-economic factors, and reveal what practices are most likely to be jointly adopted as an integrated approach to HLB. Survey participants were in favor of scouting and surveying for HLB symptoms, but they were reluctant to test trees, use early detection technologies (EDTs), and install barriers around citrus groves. Most practices were perceived as complementary, particularly visual inspections and some combinations of preventive practices with tests and EDTs. link= find protocol Participants who felt more vulnerable to HLB had a higher propensity to adopt several practices, as did those who intended to stay informed and communicate with the coordinators of the HLB control program, although this effect was modulated by the perceived vulnerability to HLB. Communication with neighbors and the size of citrus operations also influenced practice adoption. Based on these results, we provide recommendations for outreach about HLB management in California and suggest future directions for research about the adoption of plant disease management practices.[Formula see text] Copyright © 2021 The Author(s). We phenotypically and genotypically characterized 17 P. stewartii subsp. indologenes strains from onion and other sources (pearl millet, foxtail millet, guar pulse, verbena, and corn). Based on the host range evaluation, we propose two pathovars P. stewartii subsp. indologenes pv. cepacicola pv. nov. and P. stewartii subsp. indologenes pv. setariae pv. find protocol nov. find protocol P. stewartii subsp. link2 indologenes pv. cepacicola pv. nov. causes symptoms on Allium spp. (leek, onion, chive, and Japanese bunching onion) and on foxtail millet, pearl millet, and oat. However, P. stewartii subsp. indologenes pv. setariae pv. nov. can only infect the members of Poaceae family (foxtail millet, pearl millet, and oat). We also propose that the type strain of P. stewartii subsp. indologenes (LMG 2632T) should be designated as a pathotype strain of P. stewartii subs the center rot pathosystem of onion is yet to be determined.Introduction The use of smartphones to provide specialist ophthalmology services is becoming a more commonly used method to support patients with eye pathologies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for telehealth services such as tele-ophthalmology, is increasing rapidly. Methods In 2019, the agreement between diagnostic tests was investigated by comparing the diagnostic performance for eye posterior pole pathologies of the images obtained by a smartphone coupled to a medical device known as open retinoscope (OR), handled by a nurse and subsequently assessed by an ophthalmologist versus the images obtained by an ophthalmologist using a slit lamp associated to a 76 diopter indirect ophthalmic lens (Volk Super FieldVR ) (SL-IOL) at the outpatient department of a hospital. link2 The OR used in this study worked with a 28 diopter indirect lens. Results An examination of 151 dilated eyes (79 adult patients, mean age of 66.7 years, 59.5% women) was conducted. link3 Sensitivity was 98.9%, specificity was 89.8%, the positive predictive value was 93.8% and the negative predictive value was 98.2%. The kappa index between both tests was 0.90 (95% CI 0.83-0.97) in basic diagnosis, 0.81 (95% CI 0.74-0.89) in syndromic diagnosis (13 categories) and 0.70 (95% CI 0.62-0.77) in advanced diagnosis (23 categories).Discussion Images obtained by a nurse using a smartphone coupled to the OR and subsequently assessed by an ophthalmologist showed a high diagnostic performance for eye posterior pole pathologies, which could pave the way for remote ophthalmology systems for this patient group.
Kneeling posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) stress radiographs are commonly used to evaluate PCL laxity. link3 Patients, however, report significant pain, and the method's reproducibility may be challenged due to its dependence on patient body weight distribution to produce posterior tibial displacement. Weighted gravity stress radiography may offer better reproducibility and comfort than the kneeling technique, but its efficacy has not been studied.
Weighted gravity PCL stress radiographs will be more comfortable and produce similar measurements of side-to-side difference in posterior tibial displacement when compared with the kneeling technique.
Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3.
A total of 40 patients with nonoperatively or >6 months postoperatively treated PCL injuries (isolated or multiligamentous) underwent bilateral stress radiographs. Weighted gravity and kneeling stress radiographs were acquired, in random order, for each patient, as well as side-to-side difference in posterior tibiay on patient weightbearing and provide significantly better patient comfort. Clinicians should therefore consider the use of weighted gravity stress radiographs in clinical practice to minimize the pain associated with stress radiography while allowing for accurate decision making.
Weighted gravity stress radiographs produce similar side-to-side differences in posterior tibial translation compared with the kneeling stress technique, but do not rely on patient weightbearing and provide significantly better patient comfort. Clinicians should therefore consider the use of weighted gravity stress radiographs in clinical practice to minimize the pain associated with stress radiography while allowing for accurate decision making.Online measurements of the raw gas composition, including tars and water, during biomass gasification provide valuable information in fundamental investigations and for process control. Mainly consisting of hydrocarbons, tars can, in principle, be measured using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. However, an instrument subjected to raw gas runs the risk of condensation of tars on optical components and subsequent malfunction. Therefore, an external cell, heated to at least 400 ℃, has been designed to ensure that tars remain in the gas phase during FT-IR measurements. The cell was used for on-line FT-IR measurements of permanent gases (CO, CO2, CH4), water, and tars during the operation of a lab-scale downdraft gasifier using wood pellets, bark pellets, and char chips. Based on calibration, the measurement error of permanent gases was estimated to be 0.2%. Concentrations evaluated from spectral signatures of hydrocarbons in tar are in good agreement with results from solid-phase adsorption measurements and correlated well with operational changes in the gasifier. In this study, generic health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of young children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) was compared to healthy peers taken in consideration of family functioning and psychological well-being of mothers. A total of 113 mothers provided data (28 mothers had a preschool-aged child with T1D). There were no significant differences in background parameters of two investigated groups. No significant differences between children with and without T1D were detected either in HRQoL or in family functioning. Moreover, mothers of children with diabetes reported lower levels of resilience and more depressive symptoms than mothers of healthy peers. In the regression analysis, mothers' depressive symptoms and the family functioning significantly affected children's HRQoL regardless of the presence of diabetes. These results suggest that parents of children with T1D handle the burden of diabetes well and integrate into the daily activities of the families. Mothers experience distress, presumably because diabetes management is burdensome; however, the family can function well and the young children can live in a similar way to their healthy peers. The aim of this study was to evaluate parents' perception of their child(ren)'s distress before, during, and after influenza (flu) vaccination, and their perceived effectiveness of pain and distress management strategies used during the vaccination process. This is a cross-sectional survey of parents attending Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario's 2018 family flu clinic. After vaccination, parents completed a paper-based survey concerning demographics, fear and distress levels, and use and perceived effectiveness of pain/distress management interventions provided before and during the vaccination process. All survey data were entered into Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap). Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. A total of 164 parents completed the survey, reporting data on 327 children aged 6 months to 18 years (83% of children were vaccinated). Of 327 children, nearly half (n = 142, 44%) were reported to be moderately to severely distressed before, during, or after the vaccination process.
