Variation in metronidazole-induced food intake reduction differed widely between individual chinchillas.

The oral administration of commercial metronidazole and metronidazole benzoate suspensions results in a dose-dependent clinically relevant reduction in food intake in chinchillas. Metronidazole should be used cautiously in this species and food intake should be monitored during treatment. Future studies are needed in order to determine if metronidazole at 10mg/kg q12h is an effective therapeutic dosage in chinchillas.

Neoplasms that arise in the nasal cavity are reported infrequently in rabbits. This case series aims to review and determine the clinical behaviour of neoplasms in the nasal cavity in rabbits.

A retrospective study was conducted on seven pet rabbits diagnosed with intranasal tumours to describe the clinical and histopathological findings and prognoses after surgery and/or radiotherapy.

The most common clinical signs were nasal snoring when breathing, nasal discharge, and subsequent dyspnoea and anorexia. Six different histopathological types of tumours were diagnosed intranasal adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, osteosarcoma, carcinoid tumour, osteoma, and lymphoma. Skull radiography only revealed the abnormalities in three of seven cases but on CT, the intranasal masses were more clearly identified in all cases. All cases received tumour resection through rhinostomy and four cases received radiotherapy after surgery. In the six cases with a known outcome, the survival time after surgery was more than 13 months.

Robotic and gimbaled linac tracking are clinically established technologies with the clinical realization of couch tracking in development. Multileaf collimators (MLCs) are a standard equipment for most cancer radiotherapy systems, and therefore MLC tracking is a potentially widely available technology. L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate sesquimagnesium cost MLC tracking has been the subject of theoretical and experimental research for decades and was first implemented for patient treatments in 2013. The AAPM Task Group 264 Safe Clinical Implementation of MLC Tracking in Radiotherapy Report was charged to proactively provide the broader radiation oncology community with (a) clinical implementation guidelines including hardware, software, and clinical indications for use, (b) commissioning and quality assurance recommendations based on early user experience, as well as guidelines on Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, and (c) a discussion of potential future developments. The deliverables from this report include an explanation of MLC tracking and its historical development; terms and definitions relevant to MLC tracking; the clinical benefit of, clinical experience with and clinical implementation guidelines for MLC tracking; quality assurance guidelines, including example quality assurance worksheets; a clinical decision pathway, future outlook and overall recommendations.This study aims to investigate the relationship between subjective and external measures of load in professional youth football players whilst accounting for the effect of training theme or competition. Data from ratings of perceived exertion and global positioning system-derived measures of external training load were collected from 20 professional youth players (age=17.4±1.3 yrs) across a 46-week season. General characteristics of training sessions were categorised based on their proximity to match day. The underlying structure of the data was investigated with principal component analysis. An extraction criterion comprising eigenvalues >1 was used to identify which components to retain. Three components were retained for training performed three days prior to match day (80.2% of variance), with two components (72.9-89.7% of variance) retained for all other modes. Generally, the first component was represented by measures of volume (Total Distance, PlayerLoad and low intensity running) whilst the second and third components were characterised by measures of intensity. Identification of multiple components indicates that load monitoring should comprise multiple variables. Additionally, differences in the underlying structure across training days that reflected different goals suggest that effective monitoring should be specific to the demands of different session types.This study was conducted as part of a larger study of East Tyrolean health tourism, and investigates the effects of an active seven-day vacation on metabolic parameters and adipokines. Fifty-two healthy vacationers participated in two types of vacation activities (golf vs. Nordic walking or e-biking [nw&eb]). In the former group, 30 subjects played golf for a mean duration of 33.5 h per week; in the NW&EB group, 22 persons performed Nordic walking or e-biking for a mean duration of 14.2 h per week. Metabolic parameters and adipokines, such as leptin, adiponectin, GF-21, irisin, omentin-1, betatrophin, and resistin, were measured one day before and one day after the stay. After one week, only the NW&EB group experienced a significant decrease of 1.0 kg in body weight. Significant changes in HDL-C, FGF-21, irisin, and omentin-1 were seen in the golf group; and in triglycerides, HbA1c, leptin and adiponectin in the NW&EB group. No significant changes in betatrophin or resistin were registered in either group. A seven-day vacation with an activity program for several hours per week causes favorable changes in metabolic parameters and adipokines known to be involved in the pathophysiology of the metabolic syndrome. The changes differed in their magnitude and significance, depending on the type of activity.Participation and performance trends have been analyzed for different ultramarathons for limited time periods. This study examined trends in participation and performance in the oldest ultramarathon in the world, the 'Comrades Marathon' (South Africa), during a century (1921-2019). Data from www.ultra-marathon.org on 100 000 unique finishers were analysed using different general linear models. Women represented 4.2% of the total sample (n=4152), and the first women ran this race in 1978. Before the year 1965, the number of participants in the race ranged between 5 and 35 athletes, then started to grow exponentially until mid 90's. An increase in finishers in the 70 s mainly due to an increase in male athletes in age groups 30-39, 40-49 and 50-59 years was observed (p less then 0.001). A stable running speed for overall women and men but an improvement in performance for the annual top five women and men were shown (p less then 0.001). Male runners were faster than female runners for all age groups (p less then 0.001). While overall performance was not improved across years, the annual top five women and men were able to improve their performance over years.The current article describes a 72-year-old woman who suffered an acute myocardial infarction due to plaque erosion (PE) 2 weeks after abemaciclib treatment onset due to advanced breast cancer. Abemaciclib is a cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 inhibitor that has recently demonstrated efficacy and safety in advanced breast cancer. Of major concern, however, reported thromboembolic rates in randomized clinical trials testing this drug range from 0.6 to 5%. To the best of our knowledge this is the first thrombotic coronary side effect ever reported. We suggest that a treatment that increases thromboembolic risk, such abemaciclib, may have triggered PE in our patient, 15 days after abemaciclib initiation. New molecules are promising in cancer treatment; however, care must be paid to their potential cardiotoxic effects.Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is a well-known procedure in the neurosurgical field. However, it has high complication and reoperation rates. Abdominal pseudocyst (APC) formation is a rare complication of VPS with reports in the literature varying from 4 to 10%. In this article, we report a simple and effective technique, with no additional cost, to avoid APC formation by making small multiple slits along the length of the peritoneal catheter.
 Learning a new technique in neurosurgery is a big challenge especially for trainees. In recent years, simulations and simulators got into the focus as a teaching tool. Our objective is to propose a simulator for placement of cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screws to improve results and reduce complications.

 We have created a platform consisting of a sawbone navigated with a 3D fluoroscope to familiarize our trainees and consultants with CBT technique and later implement it in our department. Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills (OSATS) and Physician Performance Diagnostic Inventory Scale (PPDI) were obtained before and after the use of the simulator by the five participants in the study. Patients who were operated on after the implementation of the technique were retrospectively reviewed.

 During the simulation, there were 4 cases of pedicle breach out of 24 screws inserted (16.6%). After having completed simulation, participants demonstrated an improvement in OSATS and PPDI (
 = 0.039 plications in the future.
 The simulation we have created is useful for the implementation of CBT. In our study, consultants and trainees have valued very positively the learning obtained using the system. Moreover, simulation facilitated the learning of the technique and the understanding of surgical anatomy. We hope that simulation helps reducing complications in the future.
 The infiltrative margin of glioblastomas (GBM) contains proliferative tumor cells difficult to estimate radiologically as they are included in the hyperintense signal of T2 sequences and they remain in the cavity margin after tumor resection. The amount of these cells could determine overall survival (OS) of these patients.

 From October 2007 to January 2010, patients whose MRI were suggestive of newly diagnosed, resectable high-grade glioma were operated using fluorescence-guided surgery (FGS). Separate samples were selectively taken from nonfluorescent white matter areas just adjacent to the border of the pale fluorescence and staining was made for Ki-67. OS was analyzed with Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression. Multivariate analysis included the following prognosis variables age, extent of resection (EOR), O-6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) promoter methylation, and performance status index.

 Sample included 65 patients, comprising 37 men and 28 women, with a median Karnofsky Performance Score (KPS) of 80 (40-100) and mean age of 60 (34-78) years.
