To describe the development of the Rehabilitation Needs Survey (RNS) for persons in the chronic phase of traumatic brain injury (TBI) recovery.

RNS items were generated following a literature review (January - March 2015) on the topic of rehabilitation needs and revised
consensus from an expert panel of TBI clinicians and researchers. The RNS was added to the VA TBI Model Systems longitudinal study; data collection occurred between 2015-2019. Needs were classified as current (if endorsed) or absent; if current, needs were classified as unmet if no help was received. Need frequency and association with rehabilitation outcomes were presented.

Eight studies examined rehabilitation needs and formed the initial item pool of 42 needs. This was reduced to form the 21-item RNS which was administered at year 1 (
 = 260) and year 2 (
 = 297) post-TBI. Number of needs endorsed was 8-9, and number of unmet needs was 1-2, on average. Fat Mass and Obesity-Associated (FTO) gene and the serum vitamin D level are proposed to be involved in pathophysiology of depression. This study aimed to investigate the interactions between one FTO gene single nucleotide polymorphism, depression, and serum vitamin D level in overweight adults.Methods One hundred and ninety-seven overweight adults were recruited in this cross-sectional study. FTO genotyping was performed by amplification refractory mutation system polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR). Depression severity was assessed using Beck's depression inventory (BDI-II). Serum vitamin D levels were measured using a direct competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method.Results A-allele carriers had higher Beck's depression score (P = 0.03). Multivariate regression models showed a positive association between the A-allele of FTO rs9939609 polymorphism and depression. Serum vitamin D level had no effect on the association between FTO genotype and depression.Conclusion A-allele of FTO rs9939609 polymorphism might be associated with depression independent of serum vitamin D level. Further longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these results.
Community rehabilitation is an essential health service that is often not available to remote Australians. This paper describes the first cycle of a collaborative project, between local community members, allied health professionals and a university, to co-design a community rehabilitation and lifestyle service to support adults and older people to stay strong and age well in place.

An action research framework was used to develop the service for adults in two remote communities, one being a discrete Aboriginal community. The first cycle involved planning for, and trialling of a service, with observations, reflections and feedback from clients, community members, university students and health service providers, to inform the subsequent service.

Over two years, stakeholders worked collaboratively to plan, trial, reflect and replan an allied health student-assisted community rehabilitation service. To retrospectively evaluate feasibility and safety of CT-guided percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of metastatic lymph nodes (LN) in terms of achieving local tumor control.

Institutional database research identified 16 patients with 24 metastatic LNs who underwent percutaneous CT-guided radiofrequency ablation. Mean patient age was 66.6 ± 15.70 years (range 40-87) and male/female ratio was 8/8. Contrast-enhanced CT or MRI was used for post-ablation follow-up. Patient and tumor characteristics and RFA technique were evaluated. Technical and clinical success on per tumor and per patient basis as well as complication rates were recorded.

Mean size of the treated nodes was 1.78 ± 0.83 cm. The mean number of tumors per patient was 1.5 ± 0.63. The mean procedure time was 56.29 ± 24.27 min including local anesthesia, electrode(s) placement, ablation and post-procedural CT evaluation. Median length of hospital stay was 1.13 ± 0.34 days. On a per lesion basis, the overall complete response post-ablation according to the mRECIST criteria applied was 75% (18/24) of evaluable tumors. Repeat treatment of an index tumor was performed on two patients (three lesions) with complete response achieved in 87.5% (21/24) of evaluable tumors following a second RFA. On a per patient basis, disease progression was noted in 10/16 patients at a mean of 13.9 ± 6.03 months post the ablation procedure.
