How to Write Political News
Political news environments have undergone dramatic transformation in recent years. Writing a political article requires more than knowledge of issues and writing abilities; as stories about politics often involve multiple viewpoints, writers need to consider how best to present them without appearing biased towards either side. Political journalists aim to tell the human story behind an issue or politician. This means describing how changes would affect individuals and communities; or explaining the political process from their rights and responsibilities perspective. Translating difficult official language is also vital; using jargon can obfuscate what the true intent behind regulations may be; therefore it is up to journalists to break through these barriers to explain how these could impact on the reader.

Political journalism plays a critical role in serving as an investigative watchdog, investigating government officials and public agencies to make sure they are fulfilling their duties correctly. Journalists also work towards encouraging political participation by uncovering issues which would otherwise go overlooked or underrepresented - often through citizen journalism which allows eyewitness accounts of events to reach wider audiences than conventional press outlets.
