However, is this notion any different from digital traces or the quantified self? While digital phenotyping has the potential to transform and revolutionize medicine as we know it; there are a number of challenges that must be addressed if research is to blossom. At present, these issues include; (1) methodological issues, for example, the lack of clear theoretical links between digital markers (e.g., battery life, interactions with smartphones) and condition relapses, (2) the current tools being employed, where they typically have a number of security or privacy issues, and are invasive by nature, (3) analytical methods and approaches, where I question whether research should start in larger-scale epidemiological scale or in smaller (and potentially highly vulnerable) patient populations as is the current norm, (4) the current lack of security and privacy regulation adherence of apps used, and finally, (5) how do such technologies become integrated into various healthcare systems? This aims to provide deep insight into how the Digital Phenotyping could provide huge promise if we critically reflect now and gather clinical insights with a number of other disciplines such as epidemiology, computer- and the social sciences to move forward.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery remains a common complication that has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This study implemented Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes criteria to evaluate renal outcomes after concomitant surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation.

Patients with a history of atrial fibrillation who underwent elective cardiac surgery at our institution from 2008 to 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Those with preoperative renal dysfunction were excluded. Patients were classified as those who underwent concomitant Cox-Maze IV (CMP-IV) (n=376) or no surgical ablation (n=498). Nearest neighbor 11 propensity matching was conducted on fourteen covariates. AKI was evaluated by mixed effects logistic regression analysis. Of 120 patients, 89 (74.17%) were male and 31 (25.83%) were female. Mean patient age (±SD) was 31.21 (±11.64) years. The perceived lack of clinical benefit has led to a drift away from medical and surgical treatment of all infants with a PDA. This therapeutic nihilism as a default response to PDA management fails to recognise the physiological relevance of a left-to-right shunt with early haemodynamic instability after birth and subsequent pulmonary volume overload with prolonged exposure. Clinicians need to know if therapeutic nihilism is safe. This review will provide an overview of the available data on the efficacy of known PDA treatments, conservative management and supportive care measures that are currently applied.
Breath analysis is a promising noninvasive technique that offers a wide range of opportunities to facilitate early diagnosis of lung cancer (LC).

Exhaled breath samples of 352 subjects including 160 with lung cancer (LC), 70 with benign pulmonary nodule (BPN) and 122 healthy controls (HC) were analyzed through thermal desorption coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (TD-GC-MS) to obtain the metabolic information from volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Statistical classification models were used to find diagnostic clusters of VOCs for the discrimination of HC, BPN and LC patients' early and advanced stages, as well as subtypes of LC. Receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curves with 5-fold validations were used to evaluate the accuracy of these models.

The analysis revealed that 20, 19, 19, and 20 VOCs discriminated LC from HC, LC from BPN, histology and LC stages respectively. link3 The calculated diagnostic indices showed a large area under the curve (AUC) to distinguish HC from LC (AUC 0.987, 95 % confidence interval (CI) 0.976-0.997), BPN from LC (AUC 0.809, 95 % CI 0.758-0.860), NSCLC from SCLC (AUC 0.939, 95 % CI 0.875-0.995) and Stage III from stage III-IV (AUC 0.827, 95 % CI 0.768-0.886). The comparison between the high-risk groups (BPN and HC smokers) and early stages LC resulted in the AUC of 0.756 (95 %CI 0.681-0.817) for BPN vs. early stage LC and AUC of 0.986 (95 % CI 0.972-0.994) for HC smoker vs. early stage LC.
