As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) spread around the world, a surge of evidence suggests that smell disorders are common symptoms in COVID-19 infection. This dysfunction may cause loss of appetite, malnutrition, poisoning, and depression. Obviously, the impairment has a strong impact on the quality of life. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify effective treatments. Various therapies have been studied to treat smell disorders after infection, and olfactory training (OT) is considered a promising treatment option. Assessing the effectiveness and safety of olfactory training for COVID-19 patients with smell disorders is the main purpose of this systematic review protocol.

PubMed, EMBASE, MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang Database, ClinicalTrials.gov trials registry, and Chinese Clinical Trial Registry will be searched from January 2019 to January 2021. A combination of subject words and free text words will be applied in the searches. The language is limited to Chinese and English. The complete process will include study selection, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, and meta-analyses. Endnote X9.3 will be used to manage data screening. The statistical analysis will be completed by Review Manager V.5.3 (Cochrane Collaboration) or Stata V.16.0 software.

This proposed study will assess the effectiveness and safety of OT for COVID-19 patients with smell disorders.

The conclusion of this study will provide evidence to prove the effectiveness and safety of olfactory training for COVID-19 patients with smell disorders.

This protocol will not evaluate individual patient information or infringe patient rights and therefore does not require ethical approval.

Shugan Jieyu capsule can reduce blood pressure and improve its concomitant symptoms. However, it is not widely used in clinic because of its incomplete understanding of its nature. There are many reports on the clinical trials of Shugan Jieyu capsule in the treatment of essential hypertension with insomnia, anxiety or depression in recent years. However, the lack of systematic review and meta-analysis has not provided effective evidence. As a consequence, we provide a protocol to evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shugan Jieyu capsule (SJC) in the treatment of essential hypertension (EH) with insomnia, anxiety or depression.

The search time range of Cochrane Library, PubMed, excerpt Database (EMBASE), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), China National knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database (WanFang), was searched by computer from the establishment of the database to December 31, 2020. In the meanwhile, the list of references and related reviews were checked. The data were extracted by 2 evaluators independently, and the literature quality was evaluated according to Cochrane manual 4.2.2. In addition, CochraneRevman5.3 software was used for heterogeneity test, meta-analysis, publication bias analysis and GRADE3.6 evidence quality classification system evaluation related statistical data.

This study intends to evaluate the efficacy and safety of SJC in the treatment of EH from many aspects, including changes in blood pressure [systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP)], effective rate of blood pressure reduction, improvement rate of concomitant symptoms and adverse reactions.

The conclusion of systematic review intends to provide evidence for judging that SJC is an effective intervention for EH patients with insomnia, anxiety and depression.

This study aimed to identify prognostic factors for severe sepsis-related in-hospital mortality using the structural equation model (SEM) analysis with statistical causality. Sepsis data from the Focused Outcomes Research in Emergency Care in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Sepsis, and Trauma study (FORECAST), a multicenter cohort study, was used. Forty seven observed variables from the database were used to construct 4 latent variables. SEM analysis was performed on these latent variables to analyze the statistical causality among these data. This study evaluated whether the variables had an effect on in-hospital mortality. Overall, 1148 patients were enrolled. The SEM analysis showed that the 72-hour physical condition was the strongest latent variable affecting mortality, followed by physical condition before treatment. Furthermore, the 72-hour physical condition and the physical condition before treatment strongly influenced the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score with path coefficientng mortality, followed by physical condition before treatment. Furthermore, the 72-hour physical condition and the physical condition before treatment strongly influenced the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score with path coefficients of 0.954 and 0.845, respectively. The SOFA score was the strongest variable that affected mortality after the onset of severe sepsis. The score remains the most robust prognostic factor and can facilitate appropriate policy development on care.
An association between animals and volatile anaesthetic requirements has been shown; however, evidence related to the postoperative outcome of human patients is lacking. Our aim was to investigate whether there is a difference in the requirement for sevoflurane among people undergoing gastrointestinal surgery. We observed 390 adult patients who underwent gastrointestinal surgery with an American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status of I or II with an expected surgery duration of > 2 hours. We used the bispectral index (BIS) to guide the regulation of end-tidal sevoflurane concentration (ETsevo). The mean ETsevo from 20 minutes after endotracheal intubation to 2 hours after the start of surgery was calculated for all patients. Differential sevoflurane requirements were identified according to ETsevo. The BIS, ETsevo, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, dose of sufentanil and cisatracurium, tracheal extubation time, incidence of intraoperative awareness, and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomnts. The tracheal extubation time in group L was significantly shorter than that in group H.
1.81% were allocated to the high requirement group (group H; n = 78). The ETsevo of group L was significantly lower than the ETsevo of group H (1.29% ± 0.014% vs 1.82% ± 0.017%, P  less then  .001). There was no significant difference in the ETsevo, BIS, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, dose of sufentanil and cisatracurium, tracheal extubation time, incidence of intraoperative awareness, and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. The tracheal extubation time in the L group was significantly shorter than that in the H group. No intraoperative awareness occurred. There was a significant difference in the requirement for sevoflurane in adult patients. The tracheal extubation time in group L was significantly shorter than that in group H.
Malignant melanoma is a highly malignant tumor originating from the melanocytes of the neural crest, which is prone to metastasis and has a poor prognosis. Previous research demonstrated that melanoma inhibitory activity (MIA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) could serve as serum markers in malignant melanoma and indicate prognosis in the Caucasian race. Researchers suspected that both MIA and LDH could prompt the prognosis of malignant melanoma in the Chinese population. This study aimed to investigate the value of MIA and LDH in the prognosis of acral malignant melanoma. From January 1, 2014, to December 31, 2017, in Jiangsu Province, 44 acral malignant melanoma patients with complete data were chosen from the clinic. The LDH levels were extracted from their clinical data, and MIA levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method. 8 paired advancing samples before and after metastasis were examined. 22 health donors were matched to the patient group. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) cucity and 95.5% sensitivity. In the Kaplan-Meier analysis, MIA levels were independent risk factors for long-term mortality of acral malignant melanoma patients. It concluded that the quantification of MIA in the serum should be performed as a general standard of care in patients at risk of developing metastatic melanoma.
The influencing factors in closed reduction internal fixation with cannulated screw of femoral neck fractures have not been well investigated. This study evaluated these factors in patients with femoral neck fractures.Fifty-seven patients (36 males and 21 females) diagnosed with femoral neck fracture with the average age of 52.44 ± 15.04 years who underwent closed reduction internal fixation with cannulated screw were included in this study. Data were collected through case report reviews, phone call follow-ups, and outpatient follow-ups to evaluate pre- and postoperative radiograph images. Statistical analysis was performed using Garden classification, binary and multinomial logistic regression analysis by including factors such as patient's age, gender, fracture type, time to fixation, reduction quality, functional recovery period, removal of cannulated screw, and preoperative traction. Logistic regression analysis revealed that age and reduction quality was statistically significant (P < .05) to cliniication, binary and multinomial logistic regression analysis by including factors such as patient's age, gender, fracture type, time to fixation, reduction quality, functional recovery period, removal of cannulated screw, and preoperative traction. Logistic regression analysis revealed that age and reduction quality was statistically significant (P  less then  .05) to clinical outcome and other factors were not statistically significant. The main factors affecting clinical outcomes were functional recovery and reduction quality. The biomechanical effects of fixation provide a good foundation for fracture healing. Patient's conditions should be carefully evaluated before selecting reduction procedures to reach an optimal surgical outcome.
Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels play a key role in the regulation of arterial tone and blood pressure. The aim of this study was to determine whether the association of calcium voltage-gated channel subunit alpha1 C (CACNA1C) rs1006737 with essential hypertension (EH) exists in both Chinese Han and ethnic Russian populations of Northeast Asia. We used a case-control study of 2 ethnic groups in the same latitude geographical area to investigate the association between the susceptibility of EH and rs1006737 polymorphism. A total of 1512 EH patients and 1690 controls in Chinese Han people (Heilongjiang Provence, China), 250 EH patients, and 250 controls in ethnic Russian people (Chita, Russia), participated in this study. All participants were genotyped using the TaqMan SNP genotyping assay (Agena Company). Baseline characteristics and the minor allele frequencies of rs1006737 vary substantially among common Chinese Han and ethnic Russian people. Selleck Solcitinib Allele A was found to be a risk factor for EH in Chinese Han [(odds ratio) OR 1.
