This research examines three distinct processes that influence Americans' prosocial responses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Employing a nationally representative sample, participants read either a mock-up news article on COVID-19 with a clear responsibility attribution (n = 496) or one without (n = 513) in a survey embedded experiment. Participants exposed to the responsibility attribution condition engaged in less systematic processing; systematic processing and all emotions mediated the relationship between responsibility attribution and support for government response measures. For donation intention, only systematic processing and the two socially oriented emotions were significant mediators. In essence, responsibility attribution in media coverage can exert powerful influence on public perception in an ongoing crisis.Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is common among people living with HIV. HIV and HCV coinfected patients have higher overall mortality rates compared with HIV mono-infected patients. With its high cure rate of HCV infection, direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment provides an opportunity to improve the survival of the HIV/HCV coinfected population. The objective of this study is to investigate the association between DAA treatment and all-cause mortality among HIV/HCV coinfected people. The study included 7103 Medicare beneficiaries in the United States who were infected with both HIV and HCV between 2014 and 2017. Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (aHRs) of death for patients with and without DAA treatment while controlling for patient characteristics. During the study period, 1675 patients initiated DAA treatment (23.6%). The adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of all-cause mortality between patients with and without DAA treatment was 0.37 (95% CI, 0.29-0.48), regardless of cirrhosis status. DAA treatment was associated with a smaller reduction in all-cause mortality for females (aHR, 0.50 [95% CI, 0.30-0.85]) compared with males (aHR, 0.34 [95% CI, 0.25-0.46]). DAA treatment was associated with improved survival among all HIV/HCV coinfected patients regardless of sex or HCV disease progression.Iraqi-born immigrants residing in Sweden exhibit lower blood pressure as well as better renal function despite an overall worse metabolic risk profile in comparison with native Swedes. This may indicate the presence of cardiorenal protective mechanisms in the Middle Eastern population. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate whether the association between renal function and Pro-Enkephalin (PENK), a biomarker predictive of both acute and chronic kidney dysfunction, differs across ethnicities. The MEDIM population-based study including a cohort of women and men, born in Iraq or Sweden, aged 30-75 years was conducted in Malmö, Sweden, from 2010 to 2012. The study included fasting blood samples, physical examinations and self-administrated questionnaires. Despite significantly better renal function assessed by creatinine-based eGFR in the Iraqi group, levels of PENK did not differ between the groups, (70.0 pmol/L, born in Iraq (n = 1263) vs 71.1, born in Sweden (n = 689), p = .4). selleck inhibitor However, the association between PENK and renal function was relatively weaker in the Iraqi born group, as supported by a significant interaction between PENK and country of birth (PInteraction= Country of birth x PENK = 0,010). This observational study suggests that the association between renal function and PENK was weaker in Middle Eastern immigrants. This is of interest as PENK may exhibit a direct effect on renal function, however further research is needed including studies on causality.
To detect the concentration of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) in healthy children aged 0-14 years by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA), so as to explore the differences in different ages and genders. The aim of this study is to establish the reference interval for hs-cTnT in healthy children aged 0-14 years.
After screening, 3463 healthy children, including 1924 boys and 1539 girls, were selected from 4617 children aged 0-14 years. They were divided into nine groups one day (umbilical cord blood; 'UCB'), one day (venous blood; 'VB'), 2-28 days, 29 days-<3 months, 3-<6 months, 6 months-<1 year old, 1-< 3 years old, 3-< 6 years old and 6-14 years old. A nonparametric test was used to detect the hs-cTnT concentration. The upper limit of the reference interval is the mean of the 99th percentile after bootstrap sampling.
Hs-cTnT levels conformed to a non-Gaussian distribution. There was no significant difference in the concentration of hs-cTnT between boys and girls ict of China which can provide certain reference value for clinical diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis and myocardial (micro) injury in children.
Referring to WS/T 402-2012 establishment of reference intervals for clinical laboratory testing projects and CLSI (Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute) C28-A3 documents and the joint expert consensus of ESC (European Society of Cardiology) and ACC (American College of Cardiology) in 2007, we established the reference interval of hs-cTnT concentration in children aged 0-14 years in Chongqing Nan'an district of China which can provide certain reference value for clinical diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis and myocardial (micro) injury in children.Features of rural life, such as low population density and greater distances from urban areas, could worsen the prospects of addiction recovery for rural residents. Gossip is a central feature of rural life, and studies have shown that being the target of it can worsen health and well-being. However, no previous study has focused on the impact of gossip on addiction in rural communities. The current study employed semi-structured interviews with individuals in recovery, as well as addiction providers, to create a conceptual model of the relationship between gossip and addiction recovery in a rural region of Minnesota. The conceptual model depicted a bi-directional relationship between the individual and the community and suggested that gossip transforms from negative to positive over the course of addiction, early recovery, and long-term recovery. These data demonstrate that education at both the community and individual levels could support the transition to long-term recovery.Aims To develop a ferroptosis gene-based survival-predictor model for predicting the prognosis of patients with digestive tract tumors, a pan-caner analysis was performed. Materials & methods Based on unsupervised clustering and the expression levels of ferroptosis genes, patients with cancer were divided into two clusters. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator method Cox regression analysis was used to establish the survival-predictor model. Results Based on the pan-cancer analysis, a 20 gene-based survival-predictor model for predicting survival rates was developed, which was validated in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. Conclusion The survival-predictor model accurately predicted the prognosis of patients with digestive tract tumors.
The COVID-19 pandemic presents unique challenges to maternity settings. Its effect on providing in-hospital lactation support has not been well described.
To describe the experiences of healthcare workers as they provided in-hospital lactation support during the pandemic.
A prospective, cross-sectional, online survey evaluated healthcare providers working with postpartum women and newborns affected by COVID-19 at an academic center during March-June 2020. Providers were queried regarding the influence of COVID-19 and COVID-19-specific policies on providing lactation support. Questions assessed guidance received, perceived stress, difficulty providing care, and solicited qualitative responses. The constant comparative method was used to analyze qualitative data.
Of 108 providers, 70 (65%) completed the survey. Of 57 providing direct lactation support to women affected by COVID-19, most (
= 39, 67%) reported increased stress. Participants reported lower stress scores when receiving guidance through shce staff's experiences of stress. Efforts to optimize lactation support during COVID-19 should consider reducing distractions, physical separation, and logistic challenges. Background Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for cancer treatment are associated with a spectrum of immune-related adverse events, including ICI-induced myocarditis; however, the extent of subclinical acute cardiac effects related to ICI treatment is unclear. Purpose To explore the extent of cardiac injury and inflammation related to ICI therapy that can be detected with use of cardiac MRI. Materials and Methods In this prospective study from November 2019 to April 2021, oncologic participants, without known underlying structural heart disease or cardiac symptoms, underwent multiparametric cardiac MRI before planned ICI therapy (baseline) and 3 months after starting ICI therapy (follow-up). The cardiac MRI protocol incorporated assessment of cardiac function, including systolic myocardial strain, myocardial edema, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), T1 and T2 relaxation times, and extracellular volume fraction. The paired t test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and McNemar test were used for intraindividual compa systolic dysfunction and increased parameters of myocardial edema and inflammation. © RSNA, 2021 Online supplemental material is available for this article. There is currently no consensus regarding preferred clinical outcome measures following image-guided tumor ablation or clear definitions of oncologic end points. This consensus document proposes standardized definitions for a broad range of oncologic outcome measures with recommendations on how to uniformly document, analyze, and report outcomes. The initiative was coordinated by the Society of Interventional Oncology in collaboration with the Definition for the Assessment of Time-to-Event End Points in Cancer Trials, or DATECAN, group. According to predefined criteria, based on experience with clinical trials, an international panel of 62 experts convened. Recommendations were developed using the validated three-step modified Delphi consensus method. Consensus was reached on when to assess outcomes per patient, per session, or per tumor; on starting and ending time and survival time definitions; and on time-to-event end points. Although no consensus was reached on the preferred classification system to report complications, quality of life, and health economics issues, the panel did agree on using the most recent version of a validated patient-reported outcome questionnaire. This article provides a framework of key opinion leader recommendations with the intent to facilitate a clear interpretation of results and standardize worldwide communication. Widespread adoption will improve reproducibility, allow for accurate comparisons, and avoid misinterpretations in the field of interventional oncology research. Published under a CC BY 4.0 license.
