(OPV).

To present the different courses of OPV infection in children and to highlight the diagnostic difficulties in their differentiation from the other inflammatory processes.

We retrospectively evaluated the medical documentation of 5 children with OPV infection. Clinical diagnosis of OPV infection was based on evaluation of animal contact and skin symptoms, characterised by either a single ulcer or disseminated lesions. In all five cases, blood samples and skin swabs were collected from the lesion(s) to identify specific OPV DNA fragments (Vgf, b9R and D11L genes) using PCR.

Two children presented with high fever, a single ulcer on the skin and local lymphadenopathy. The three other patients were in good general health and their skin lesions presented as a disseminated vesicular rash. Using the Vgf gene as the target for PCR, OPV infection was confirmed in material collected from skin lesions of all children and in blood samples of 4 children. The B9R and d11L genes tested positive in the skin material of 2 children and blood samples of 2 children. All analysed patients presented a history of ineffective antibiotic therapy.

The usefulness of total specific resistance (sRtot) and interrupter resistance (Rint) as a bronchodilator reversibility test (BT) alternative to forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV
) in asthma diagnosis in children has not been established.

To compare different applied definitions of airflow obstruction in children measuring response to the bronchodilator by spirometry, plethysmography and the interrupter technique in asthmatic children.

It was a prospective, real-life, non-interventional study. Children, aged 6-18 with newly diagnosed asthma, able to perform lung function tests were included into the study. Subjects underwent a history taking, physical examination, reversibility test in spirometry, plethysmography, and the interrupter technique. A standard cut-off of 12% from the initial value for reversibility in FEV
was employed. Improvement in the pre-bronchodilator sRtot and Rint ≥ 25% and ≥ 35% was assessed after administration of salbutamol (400 µg) as well as allergen sensitization were measured.

We included 135 children diagnosed with asthma into the analysis. All investigated parameters changed statistically significantly due to the bronchodilator administration in the examined patients. The FEV
was not as useful in diagnostics of asthma as the sRtot and Rint, taking into consideration the fait accompli that all the study participants had aptly been diagnosed as having asthma (
< 0.001). The differences between the sRtot and Rint were not statistically significant (
= 0.215).

Our results suggest that sRtot and Rint may be useful parameters in BT in clinical practice in the asthma diagnostic process in children.

Due to the rising incidence of cutaneous melanoma there is a great need for the development of new diagnostic techniques as well as the improvement of those that are already well known, such as dermoscopy. Since early detection and a proper technique for excising the tumor are crucial for patients' survival, early staging of the tumor is very important.

To investigate whether there is a significant difference between the presence of selected dermoscopic features compared to the location on the skin and pathology results Breslow's depth, mitotic index and ulceration.

We examined videodermoscopic images of cutaneous melanomas in 81 patients and compared their features with the histological results such as Breslow's depth, mitotic index and ulceration. In the study, we divided and compared the tumors in groups
