The corn was planted on 76-cm rows shortly after rye was terminated. With multiple seeding arrangements of winter rye, corn was planted at different distances from winter rye. Corn radicle root rot severity and incidence, shoot height, shoot dry weight, corn height and chlorophyll at VT, ear parameters, and yield were collected. Soil samples were taken in the corn row and the interrow at winter rye termination, corn planting, and corn growth stage V3 to estimate the abundance of Pythium clade B members present in soil samples. Our results showed that increased distance between winter rye residue and corn reduced seedling disease and Pythium clade B populations in the radicles and soil, and increased shoot dry weight, leaf chlorophyll, plant height, and yield. This suggests that physically distancing the corn crop from the winter rye CC is one way to reduce the negative effects of a winter rye CC on corn.Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is an economically important fruit crop in many tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. In recent years, passion fruit was widely cultivated in Guangxi Province. In 2020, a rot disease occurred on immature fruit of passion fruit in several commercial orchards of Nanning, Guangxi, caused about 50% incidence. The first appeared as small, irregular, water-soaked, brown lesions on immature fruit. As the disease progressed, the lesions rapidly enlarged, causing fruit rot. A layer of sparse white mycelia appeared on the lesions at high humidity. The disease first developed in June, its peak periods from August to September. Five diseased fruits were collected from five different orchards. The edges of symptomatic fleshy mesocarp tissue were cut into pieces (5 mm × 5 mm), surface-sterilized in 75% ethanol solution for 60 s, rinsed three times with sterilized distilled water, and plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Plates were incubated at 25°C in the dark. After 5 days, similang Koch's postulates. P. nicotianae had been previously isolated from passion fruit in South Africa (Van and Huller 1970), Vietnam (Nguyen et al. 2015), and Fujian Province of China (Luo et al. 1993). To our knowledge, this is the first report of P. nicotianae infecting passion fruit in Guangxi Province, China.Powdery mildew, caused by the fungus Podosphaera xanthii, is one of the most important diseases of melon. While there are several pathogenic races of P. xanthii, race 1 is the predominant race in South Carolina and the U.S. We used a densely genotyped recombinant inbred line melon population for traditional QTL mapping, to identify two major (qPx1-5 and qPx1-12) and two minor (qPx1-4 and qPx1-10) QTLs (named according to race - chromosome number) associated with resistance to P. xanthii race 1. QTL mapping of disease severity in multiple tissues (hypocotyl, cotyledons, true leaves and stems) identified the same genetic basis of resistance in all tissue types. Whole-genome resequencing of the parents was used for marker development across the major QTLs and functional annotation of SNPs for candidate gene analysis. KASP markers were tightly linked to the QTL peaks of qPx1-5 (pm1-5_25329892, pm1-5_25461503 and pm1-5_25625375) and qPx1-12 (pm1-12_22848920 and pm1-12_22904659) in the population and will enable efficient marker-assisted introgression of powdery mildew resistance into improved germplasm. Candidate genes were identified in both major QTL intervals that encode putative R genes with missense mutations between the parents. The candidate genes provide targets for future breeding efforts and a fundamental examination of resistance to powdery mildew in melon.Peach scab is a fungal disease caused by Venturia carpophila, which can significantly reduce peach yield and quality. selleck inhibitor Fungicide application is the main control measure for peach scab worldwide. For better understanding of the fungicide resistance status and making suitable management strategies, the sensitivity of 135 single-spore V. carpophila isolates to commonly used fungicides carbendazim, iprodione, propiconazole, azoxystrobin and boscalid were determined using microtiter plate test method. Results showed that the mean EC50 values of tested isolates to iprodione, propiconazole, azoxystrobin and boscalid were 16.287 µg/ml, 0.165 µg/ml, 0.570 µg/ml and 0.136 µg/ml, respectively. The EC50 values of V. carpophila isolates to four fungicides displayed unimodal frequency distributions, indicating no resistance occurred to these fungicides. On the other hand, bimodal frequency distribution was observed for carbendazim, indicating that the V. carpophila developed resistance to carbendazim. Actually, the resistance was widely detected from all of the 14 provinces. Molecular analysis showed that the point mutation E198K of the TUB2 gene determined the high resistance, while the E198G conferred the moderate resistance. Both moderate and high resistances were stable, and the resistant isolates did not show significant fitness penalties. On the contrary, some resistant isolates showed better competitiveness under certain stresses. This is the first report to detect the sensitivity of V. carpophila to fungicides which enables future monitoring of fungicide resistance and provides the basic information for making suitable peach scab management strategies.Terminating winter cereal rye (Secale cereale L.) cover crops (CCs) 10 or more days before planting corn is recommended to minimize seedling disease and potential yield loss. In Iowa, cold temperatures and frequent precipitation can prevent farmers from following that recommendation and sometimes forcing them to plant corn while the rye plants are still green, referred to as planting green (PG). A field trial was established to evaluate the effect of rye termination shortly before or after corn planting on growth, seedling root disease, and yield of corn. A rye CC was terminated 17 and 3 days before planting (DBP), and 6 and 12 days after planting (DAP) corn; corn planted following no rye was included as a control. Rye biomass, CN ratio, and N accumulation increased when terminated 6 or 12 DAP corn compared with rye terminated 17 or 3 DBP corn. Corn seedlings were taller from the PG treatments. More radicle root rot was observed when rye was terminated 3 DBP, 6 DAP, and 12 DAP corn than for the 17 DBP treatment and the no-rye control. Generally, greater Pythium Clade B populations were detected on radicles and seminal roots of corn from the PG treatments. Corn populations, ears, or barren plants were not affected by the treatments. In both years, the no-rye control had the greatest corn yield and the 12 DAP treatment had the lowest yield. Our results suggest that PG increased corn seedling root disease and contributed to reduced corn yield.
Persons with serious mental illness face adverse psychiatric and medical outcomes, and their care is associated with a large burden of health care costs. Care management, in which assessment, care planning, and care coordination are provided, is a common model of support, yet the evidence supporting its use among psychiatric populations is mixed. A systematic review and a meta-analysis were undertaken to determine the impact of care management on clinical outcomes, acute care utilization, cost, and satisfaction among adults with serious mental illness.
A multidatabase literature search was performed. Articles were included if they compared standard outpatient care plus care management with standard outpatient care alone for adults with serious mental illness and reported on one or more predefined outcomes. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and other study designs were permitted for inclusion in the systematic review. The meta-analysis included only RCTs.
For the systematic review, 34 articles representing 28 unique studies were included. Fifteen of these articles, representing 12 unique studies, were included in the meta-analysis, which indicated that care management was associated with small, statistically significant improvements in psychiatric symptoms, overall quality of life (QOL), and mental QOL (Hedges' g range 0.13-0.26). In addition, care management was associated with a small, statistically significant reduction in inpatient psychiatric hospital days (Hedges' g=0.16, p=0.02).
Care management is associated with fewer psychiatric symptoms and greater QOL for persons with serious mental illness. Further work is needed to determine which components of the intervention are associated with effectiveness.

Using a retrospective sample, the authors sought to determine whether Black patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) in Canada were at a higher risk for coercive referral and coercive intervention than non-Black patients with FEP.
Retrospective data from patients referred to an FEP program in 2008-2018 were collected via chart review (N=208). The authors used chi-square and logistic regression analyses to explore the relationships among race-ethnicity, diagnosis of psychosis, and coercive referral and intervention.
Results showed that Black persons of Caribbean or African descent with FEP were significantly more likely to be coercively referred (χ
=9.24, df=2, p=0.010) and coercively treated (χ
=9.21, df=2, p=0.010) than were non-Black individuals with FEP. Age and violent or threatening behavior were predictors of coercive referral. Ethnoracial status, age, and violent or threatening behavior were predictors of coercive intervention.
This study contributes to the dearth of research on Black Canadians and offers insight into factors that may place patients with FEP at risk for coercive treatment. More research is needed to explore the role that ethnoracial status may play in hospital admissions and to uncover the role of racial prejudices in the assessment of danger.

In response, N.A.P.S. established a work group that revised the association's 2013 National Practice Guidelines for Peer Supporters to include specific guidance to supervisors (i.e., the National Practice Guidelines for Peer Specialists and Supervisors). The new guidelines are not intended to address administrative or other basic functions of supervision; instead, they offer expertise and practical guidance to supervisors of peer support workers in understanding the core values of mutual support and managing the complexities of the nonclinical role in settings that may have different values and priorities. The Beirut port explosion on August 4, 2020, traumatized the Lebanese population. It also revealed a lack of disaster mental health preparedness in a country subject to significant political, economic, and security challenges. The Trauma Assessment and Support Clinic at the American University of Beirut Medical Center was one of many initiatives set up nationally as a dedicated emergency benevolent service. The authors recommend anticipating the psychiatric consequences of such rare events at a professional and systemic level. The experiences of clinicians and the challenges faced in Lebanon can guide the improvement of disaster mental health care on a global level.
