To develop a simplified Chinese version of the DISABKIDS chronic generic module-37 (DCGM-37), and to test the translated measures in children with cancer by employing a cognitive interviewing technique.

The English version of DCGM-37 was translated forward and backward into simplified Chinese by bilingual translators, following the guidelines from its copyright holders, which also involved a cultural adaptation component. Twelve Chinese children aged 8-18 years and eight parents were cognitively interviewed.

The findings support the relevance, comprehensibility, and efficacy of the Chinese version. Consideration was given, and improvements were made, to the language, cultural concerns, and content, which improved functionality and increased validation. The patients/caregivers understood the instructions, questions, and answer choices. Some revisions, however, were made to address patient/caregiver feedback obtained through cognitive interviews. Conceptually and semantically, the simplified Chinese versih-related quality of life.Persistent stuttering is a prevalent neurodevelopmental speech disorder, which presents with involuntary speech blocks, sound and syllable repetitions, and sound prolongations. Affected individuals often struggle with negative feelings, elevated anxiety, and low self-esteem. Neuroimaging studies frequently link persistent stuttering with cortical alterations and dysfunctional cortico-basal ganglia-thalamocortical loops; dMRI data also point toward connectivity changes of the superior longitudinal fasciculus (SLF) and the frontal aslant tract (FAT). Both tracts are involved in speech and language functions, and the FAT also supports inhibitory control and conflict monitoring. Whether the two tracts are involved in therapy-associated improvements and how they relate to therapeutic outcomes is currently unknown. Here, we analyzed dMRI data of 22 patients who participated in a fluency-shaping program, 18 patients not participating in therapy, and 27 fluent control participants, measured 1 year apart. We used diffusion tractography to segment the SLF and FAT bilaterally and to quantify their microstructural properties before and after a fluency-shaping program. Participants learned to speak with soft articulation, pitch, and voicing during a 2-week on-site boot camp and computer-assisted biofeedback-based daily training for 1 year. Therapy had no impact on the microstructural properties of the two tracts. Yet, after therapy, stuttering severity correlated positively with left SLF fractional anisotropy, whereas relief from the social-emotional burden to stutter correlated negatively with right FAT fractional anisotropy. Thus, posttreatment, speech motor performance relates to the left dorsal stream, while the experience of the adverse impact of stuttering relates to the structure recently associated with conflict monitoring and action inhibition.
The small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus (Fallén), is an important pest of rice. It is suspected of migrating over the sea from China to Japan. read more However, where in China it comes from and how it affects Japanese populations remain unclear.

Here, we studied the genetic structure of 15 L. striatellus populations sampled from Japan and China using single nucleotide polymorphisms generated by the double digest restriction site-associated DNA sequencing technique. We found weak genetic differentiation between the Chinese and Japanese populations. Our data revealed migration signals of L. striatellus from China to southern and northern Japan. However, the source regions of the immigrants remain unclear due to the low genetic differentiation between populations. Our results also pointed to the possibility of backward gene flow from Japanese to Chinese populations. We suspect that the south-eastern wind associated with the East Asian summer monsoon may facilitate the reverse migration of L. striatellus f migration routes of small insects via population genomics. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.
Report experiences and behaviour influences with healthcare professionals' decision to and experiences of offering memory making during end-of-life care in the adult acute population.

Little is known about healthcare professionals' experiences offering memory making during adult acute end-of-life care.

Survey.

Registered nurses, medical practitioners and social workers employed at a single tertiary referral adult intensive care, where memory making had been implemented nearly two years prior were invited to participate between June and August 2017. Reporting adheres to the STROBE checklist.

Ninety-six valid surveys (75% response rate 75 registered nurses, 19medical practitioners, and 2social workers) were analysed with 67 participants reporting experience offering memory making. Highest overall agreement scores included believing families value memory making and the offer of memory making being beneficial. Enablers were described as organisational supports, personal qualities and good interpersonal ffer memory making. Findings inform development and sustainability to integrate memory making as routine end-of-life care intervention in adult acute care.
Discoveries have important implications in addressing evidence gaps regarding behaviour influences linked to the decision to offer memory making. Two families of anammox bacteria with different biogeographical distributions have been reported, marine Ca. Scalinduaceae and freshwater Ca. Brocadiaceae. Here we report evidence of three new species within a novel genus and family of anammox bacteria, which were discovered in biofilms of a subsea road tunnel under a fjord in Norway. In this particular ecosystem, the nitrogen cycle is likely fuelled by ammonia from organic matter degradation in the fjord sediments and the rock mass above the tunnel, resulting in the growth of biofilms where anammox bacteria can thrive under oxygen limitation. We resolved several metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) of anammox bacteria, including three Ca. Brocadiales MAGs that could not be classified at the family level. MAGs of this novel family had all the diagnostic genes for a full anaerobic ammonium oxidation pathway in which nitrite was probably reduced by a NirK-like reductase. A survey of published molecular data indicated that this new family of anammox bacteria occurs in many marine sediments, where its members presumably would contribute to nitrogen loss. The environmental bacterium Legionella pneumophila causes the pneumonia Legionnaires' disease. The opportunistic pathogen forms biofilms and employs the Icm/Dot type IV secretion system (T4SS) to replicate in amoebae and macrophages. A regulatory network comprising the Legionella quorum sensing (Lqs) system and the transcription factor LvbR controls bacterial motility, virulence and biofilm architecture. Here we show by comparative proteomics that in biofilms formed by the L. pneumophila ΔlqsR or ΔlvbR regulatory mutants the abundance of proteins encoded by a genomic 'fitness island', metabolic enzymes, effector proteins and flagellar components (e.g. FlaA) varies. ∆lqsR or ∆flaA mutants form 'patchy' biofilms like the parental strain JR32, while ∆lvbR forms a 'mat-like' biofilm. Acanthamoeba castellanii amoebae migrated more slowly through biofilms of L. pneumophila lacking lqsR, lvbR, flaA, a functional Icm/Dot T4SS (∆icmT), or secreted effector proteins. Clusters of bacteria decorated amoebae in JR32, ∆lvbR or ∆icmT biofilms but not in ∆lqsR or ∆flaA biofilms. The amoeba-adherent bacteria induced promoters implicated in motility (PflaA ) or virulence (PsidC , PralF ). Taken together, the Lqs-LvbR network (quorum sensing), FlaA (motility) and the Icm/Dot T4SS (virulence) regulate migration of A. castellanii through L. pneumophila biofilms, and - apart from the T4SS - govern bacterial cluster formation on the amoebae.Fungi can be found in almost all ecosystems. Some of them can even survive in harsh, anthropogenically transformed environments, such as post-industrial soils. In order to verify how the soil fungal diversity may be changed by pollution, two soil samples from each of the 28 post-industrial sites were collected. Each soil sample was characterized in terms of concentration of heavy metals and petroleum derivatives. To identify soil fungal communities, fungal internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) amplicon was sequenced for each sample using Illumina MiSeq platform. There were significant differences in the community structure and taxonomic diversity among the analysed samples. The highest taxon richness and evenness were observed in the non-polluted sites, and lower numbers of taxa were identified in multi-polluted soils. The presence of monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, gasoline and mineral oil was determined as the factors driving the differences in the mycobiome. Furthermore, in the culture-based selection experiment, two main groups of fungi growing on polluted media were identified - generalists able to live in the presence of pollution, and specialists adapted to the usage of BTEX as a sole source of energy. Our selection experiment proved that it is long-term soil contamination that shapes the community, rather than temporary addition of pollutant.Over the last half century, there have been several periods during which magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has been used ex vivo, for a variety of reasons, on samples such as microorganisms, cells, animal or human tissue, tissue extracts or biological fluids. These studies began in the days before the acronym MRS had been invented, when all such methods were still called nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and have extended to the present day. I will describe the historical development of NMR methods used ex vivo, their influences on the development of MRS in vivo, and their longer-term uses. All the interpretations will be personal, based on what I saw, or discussed with colleagues at the time.Absent pulmonary valve has usually been described in association with tetralogy of Fallot. Present case highlights its association with congenitally corrected transposition which has not been reported so far in literature. The increase in mariculture activities worldwide has not only led to a rise of nitrogen compounds in the ecosystem but has also intensified the accumulation of antibiotics in both terrestrial and marine environments. This study focused on the effect of typical antibiotics, specifically sulfamethoxazole (SMX) on nitrate removal from mariculture wastewater by aerobic denitrification process; an aerobic denitrification system feeding with 148.2 mg/L COD, 8.59 mg/L nitrate, 0.72 mg/L nitrite, and 4.75 mg/L ammonium was set up. The hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 8 h. As the aerobic bioreactor started up successfully without SMX dosage, an excellent removal of ammonium, nitrite, and nitrate was achieved at 91.35%, 93.33%, and 88.51%, respectively; the corresponding effluent concentrations were 0.41 mg/L, 0.048 mg/L, and 0.96 mg/L. At the influent SMX doses of 0, 1, 5, and 10 mg/L, the COD removal reached 96.91%, 96.27%, 88.69%, and 85.89%, resulting in effluent concentrations of 4.53, 5.45, 17.38, and 20.6 mg/L, respectively.
