Source-gated transistors (SGTs), which are typically realized by introducing a source barrier in staggered thin-film transistors (TFTs), exhibit many advantages over conventional TFTs, including ultrahigh gain, lower power consumption, higher bias stress stability, immunity to short-channel effects, and greater tolerance to geometric variations. These properties make SGTs promising candidates for readily fabricated displays, biomedical sensors, and wearable electronics for the Internet of Things, where low power dissipation, high performance, and efficient, low-cost manufacturability are essential. In this review, the general aspects of SGT structure, fabrication, and operation mechanisms are first discussed, followed by a detailed property comparison with conventional TFTs. Next, advances in high-performance SGTs based on silicon are first discussed, followed by recent advances in emerging metal oxides, organic semiconductors, and 2D materials, which are individually discussed, followed by promising applications that can be uniquely realized by SGTs and their circuitry. Lastly, this review concludes with challenges and outlook overview.Atomically dispersed nickel-nitrogen-carbon (Ni-N-C) moieties are promising for efficient electrochemical CO2 -to-CO conversion. To improve the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity, it is essential but challenging to steer the coordination environment of Ni centers for promoting the CO formation kinetics. Here, we introduce alien sulfur atoms to tune the local electronic density of unsaturated NiN2 species. A coordinated structure evolution is detected and S vacancies are generated at high overpotentials, as confirmed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The sulfur dopants enhance CO selectivity and activity over normal unsaturated NiN2 structure, reaching a high CO Faradaic efficiency of 97 % and a large CO current density of 40.3 mA cm-2 in a H-cell at -0.8 V and -0.9 V (vs. RHE), respectively. selleck DFT calculations reveal both doped S atoms and evolved S vacancies in the NiN2 coordination environment contribute to the reduced energy barriers for CO2 electroreduction to CO.Recent developments concerning large protein nanopores suggest a new approach to structure profiling of native folded proteins. In this work, the large vestibule of Mycobacterium smegmatis porin A (MspA) and calmodulin (CaM), a Ca2+-binding protein were used in the direct observation of the protein structure. Three conformers including the Ca2+-free, Ca2+-bound and target peptide-bound states of CaM were unambiguously distinguished. A disease related mutant, CaM D129G was also discriminated by MspA, revealing how a single amino acid replacement can interfere with the Ca2+ binding capacity of the whole protein. The binding capacity and aggregation effect of CaM induced by different ions (Mg2+/Sr2+/Ba2+/Ca2+/Pb2+/Tb3+) were also investigated and the stability of MspA in extreme conditions was evaluated. This work demonstrates the most systematic single molecule investigation of different allosteric conformers of CaM, acknowledging the high sensing resolution offered by the MspA nanopore trap.Bone-like apatite is a promising coating of poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) for bone implantation. Poly(aryl ether nitrile ketone) containing phthalazinone moiety (PPENK) is a novel alternative for its easy synthesis. Here, chitosan/gelatin hybrid hydrogel coating is applied to induce the formation of apatite on the surface of PPENK substrate through biomineralization to improve its biocompatibility and osteogenic property. PPENK possessing allyl groups (PPENK-d) are synthesized and spin-coated on PPENK substrate to impart reactive groups. The hydrogel coating is prepared by the ultraviolet crosslinking of gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) and chitosan methacrylate (CSMA) on PPENK substrate. PPENK-d, GelMA, and CSMA are characterized by 1 H-NMR to confirm the designed structures. The presence of chitosan increases the chelation of calcium ions and thus induces the nucleation of apatite. The microstructural and compositional results reveal that the chitosan-containing hydrogel coating induced apatite coating yields a higher apatite quantity compared to the gelatin hydrogel coating. The apatite coatings on PPENK substrate promote the cytocompatibility and osteogenesis of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts in vitro.
Young pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV (WLHIV) are at high risk of poor outcomes in prevention of mother-to-child transmission services. The aim of this systematic review was to collate evidence on strategies to improve retention in antenatal and/or postpartum care in this population. We also conducted a secondary review of strategies to increase attendance at antenatal care (ANC) and/or facility delivery among pregnant adolescents, regardless of HIV status, to identify approaches that could be adapted for adolescents and young WLHIV.

Selected databases were searched on 1 December 2020, for studies published between January 2006 and November 2020, with screening and data abstraction by two independent reviewers. We identified papers that reported age-disaggregated results for adolescents and young WLHIV aged <25years at the full-text review stage. For the secondary search, we included studies among female adolescents aged 10 to 19years.

Of 37 papers examining approaches to increase retenatal and/or postpartum care among adolescents and young WLHIV specifically, as well as a distinct lack of age-disaggregated results in studies examining retention interventions for pregnant WLHIV of all ages. Identifying and prioritizing approaches to improve retention of adolescents and young WLHIV are critical for improving maternal and child health.
This review highlights the lack of evidence regarding effective strategies to improve retention in antenatal and/or postpartum care among adolescents and young WLHIV specifically, as well as a distinct lack of age-disaggregated results in studies examining retention interventions for pregnant WLHIV of all ages. Identifying and prioritizing approaches to improve retention of adolescents and young WLHIV are critical for improving maternal and child health.Multinuclear metal complexes have seen tremendous progress in synthetic advances, their versatile structural features, and emerging applications. Here, we conceptualize metal-to-metal distance modulation in co-facially stacked cyclophanyl metal complexes by ligand design employing cyclophanyl-derived pseudo- geminal , - ortho , - meta , and - para constitutional isomers grafted with N-, O-, and P- containing chelates that allow the installation of diverse (hetero)metallic moieties in a distance-defined and spatially-oriented relation to one another. Metal-to-metal distance modulation and innate transannular "through-space" π-π electronic interactions via the co-facially stacked benzene rings in cyclophanyl-derived complexes, as well as their specific stereochemical structural features (element of planar chirality), are crucial factors that contribute to the tuning of structure-property relationships, which stand at the very center from the perspective of cooperative effects in catalysis as well as material applications.β-Galactosidase is a critical exoglycosidase involved in the hydrolysis of lactose, the modification and degradation of glycoprotein in vivo. In this study, the β-galactosidase gene of silkworm (BmGal), whose cDNA comprises 11 exons and contains an intact ORF of 1,821 bp, was cloned. The protein sequence of BmGal showed high similarity with other known insect β-galactosidases. No activity of the BmGal expressed in Escherichia coli or Pichia pastoris was detected while it was successfully expressed with high enzyme activity in baculovirus expression system in silkworm, and the electrophoresis result revealed that the BmGal showed activity in oligomer mode. Enzyme activity assay showed that its optimum pH was 8.4 and its optimum temperature was 40 °C. What is more, we found that iron ions can stimulate the activity of the enzyme while cobalt, nickel, or lead ions can inhibit its activity significantly. Besides, the temporal-spatial transcription pattern of the BmGal mRNA level was analyzed, which showed that BmGal was transcribed at the highest level in the fifth larval instar but relatively low level in the pupal and adult stage, and the highest transcriptional level of BmGal was found in testis among all the tissues concerned.Carbazole-based aza[7]helicenes and hetero[9]helicenes were successfully obtained via the intramolecular Scholl reaction of 3,6-bis(biphenyl-2-yl)carbazole congeners, while the reaction of 3,6-bis(naphthylphenyl)-appended carbazole gave a triple helicene via an unexpected simultaneous double aryl rearrangement. DFT calculations suggested that the rearrangement proceeded via an arenium cation intermediate. In addition, the reaction of methoxy-appended substrate gave an azahepta[8]circulene via the concurrent C-C bond formation. These helical dyes showed circularly polarized luminescence. The azahepta[8]circulene was further transformed into deeply saddle-distorted dibenzodiaza[8]circulenes as the first example of its solution-based synthesis and unambiguous structural determination .Critical assessment of structure prediction (CASP) conducts community experiments to determine the state of the art in computing protein structure from amino acid sequence. The process relies on the experimental community providing information about not yet public or about to be solved structures, for use as targets. For some targets, the experimental structure is not solved in time for use in CASP. Calculated structure accuracy improved dramatically in this round, implying that models should now be much more useful for resolving many sorts of experimental difficulties. To test this, selected models for seven unsolved targets were provided to the experimental groups. These models were from the AlphaFold2 group, who overall submitted the most accurate predictions in CASP14. Four targets were solved with the aid of the models, and, additionally, the structure of an already solved target was improved. An a posteriori analysis showed that, in some cases, models from other groups would also be effective. This paper provides accounts of the successful application of models to structure determination, including molecular replacement for X-ray crystallography, backbone tracing and sequence positioning in a cryo-electron microscopy structure, and correction of local features. The results suggest that, in future, there will be greatly increased synergy between computational and experimental approaches to structure determination.Compared with the well-described XY sex determination system in mammals, the avian ZW sex determination system is poorly understood. Knockdown and overexpression studies identified doublesex and mab-3-related transcription factor 1 (DMRT1) as the testis-determining gene in chicken. However, the detailed effects of DMRT1 gene disruption from embryonic to adult development are not clear. Herein, we have generated DMRT1-disrupted chickens using the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats-associated protein 9 system, followed by an analysis of physiological, hormonal, and molecular changes in the genome-modified chickens. In the early stages of male chicken development, disruption of DMRT1 induced gonad feminization with extensive physiological and molecular changes; however, functional feminine reproductivity could not be implemented with disturbed hormone synthesis. Subsequent RNA-sequencing analysis of the DMRT1-disrupted chicken gonads revealed gene networks, including several novel genes linearly and non-linearly associated with DMRT1, which are involved in gonad feminization.
