Traffic accident is a grievous problem that costs more than one million lives worldwide every year, but remains understudied in transportation efficiency literature. This paper develops safety-adjusted transportation efficiency to account for the negative outcomes in transportation including accidents, fatalities, injuries and property loss. We model the transportation efficiency under the data envelopment analysis (DEA) framework by treating the accident-related negative outcomes as undesirable outputs. Two DEA models, based on radial and non-radial structures respectively, are proposed for panel data. We apply the methods to 31 provinces in China over a 20-year horizon 1998-2017. We find that the evolution of China's overall safety-adjusted transportation efficiency follows a U-shaped path It deteriorated between 1998 and 2002, steadily improved from 2002 to 2012, and stabilized during 2012-2017. The majority of the provinces improved their safety-adjusted transportation efficiency from 1998 to 2017, except for one province that maintained the status quo and three provinces that experienced a decline in performance. Improvement analysis is carried out to identify gaps in accident-related factors that each province should close to attain best-practice. Further, we find strong evidence of unconditional β-convergence and σ-convergence in safety-adjusted transportation efficiency, indicating that the provinces with low initial efficiency generally grew more rapidly and the dispersion of provincial efficiency levels diminished. The main findings are substantially different from the regular transportation efficiency analysis that does not consider the accident-related undesirable factors. The safety-adjusted transportation efficiency can convey important information that the regular transportation efficiency fails to capture.This study performed statistical analyses to identify likely crash contributing factors for Head-on Fatal and Serious Injury (FSI) collisions involving heavy vehicles (HVs) on the Queensland state road network. Head-on HV collisions are associated with the largest number of fatalities compared to other crash types in Queensland. However, there is limited relevant literature regarding this type of crashes. Recent studies on road safety research have focused on variants of random parameters models to capture unobserved heterogeneity that may influence the occurrence of crashes. Among such models, random parameters with heterogeneity in means has recently provided better results and has become popular. However, this study illustrates a potential limitation regarding the use of these models without explicitly factoring for excessive zero crash observations. To address this potential limitation, a random parameters with heterogeneity in means and a Lindley distribution is introduced in this study to factor for ther a road attribute using the effect of a geometric variable, in which several stakeholders are primarily interested.
When borderline axillary lymph nodes (bALN) are identified on ultrasound (US) for breast cancer (BC) patients, preoperative management is unclear. We aimed to evaluate if core needle biopsy (CNB) for bALN is clinically helpful or disruptive.
Retrospective review of BC patients with bALN from 2014 to 2019 was performed. Clinicopathologic data were compared for those who did and did not have CNB.
CNB (n=34) and no CNB (n=31) were similar with respect to clinicopathologic factors. Surgical LN-positive rate was the same between cohorts (p=0.26). CNB was disruptive in 58.8%; all had CNB for pN0 disease. CNB was helpful in 34.2% 14.7% proceeded directly to axillary dissection; 17.6% had positive LN localized after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
CNB for bALN is more likely clinically disruptive and did not impact surgical LN positive rate. BC patients with bALN should undergo CNB only if it will change clinical management.

Management of stage IV rectal adenocarcinoma is categorized into curative and palliative-intent strategies. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence of and associations with curative-intent treatment in stage IV rectal cancer.
The National Cancer Database from 2010 to 2016 was queried for patients with stage IV rectal adenocarcinoma and were grouped into curative-intent and non-curative management. Multivariable logistic regression was used to predict use of curative-intent management.
16,862 patients were included in this study 4886 (30.0%) curative-intent and 11,975 (71.0%) non-curative. Multivariable regression demonstrated curative intent was associated with young age, female gender, white race, private insurance, mucinous histology and anaplastic grade.

Implant-retained prosthodontic rehabilitation of patients with head and neck cancer is complex. However, the extent of prosthodontic complications has been sparsely reported within the literature.
The purpose of this retrospective study was to describe the range of complications and issues that affected the oral rehabilitation treatment of patients with head and neck cancer who had completed implant-retained prosthodontic rehabilitation in a tertiary treatment center.
A retrospective analysis of complications and their consequences in patients treated in a regional unit from 2012 to 2017 was performed. Descriptive analysis was carried out on the type and frequency of complications and their consequences for the patients' treatment. Complications were grouped into the following complication types local and systemic, implant, peri-implant soft tissue, and clinical prosthodontic complications. Implant success and implant survival were also reported.

Cold rolling is widely used for screw thread manufacturing in industry but is less common in implant dentistry, where cutting is the preferred manufacturing method.
The purpose of this invitro study was to compare the surface finish and mechanical performance of a specific model of prosthetic screw used for direct restorations manufactured by thread rolling and cutting.
The thread profiles were measured in an optical measuring machine, the residual stresses in an X-ray diffractometer, the surface finish in a scanning electron microscope, and then fatigue and static load tests were carried out in a direct stress test bench according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14801. Finally, linear regression models and 95% interval confidence bands were calculated and compared through ANCOVA for fatigue tests while the t test was used for statistical comparisons (α=.05).
The surface finish was smoother, and compressive residual stresses were higher for the roll-threaded screws. Linear regression models showed a fatigue life 9 times higher for roll-threaded screws (P=1) without affecting static behavior, which showed statistically similar static strengths (P=.54). However, the thread profile in the roll-threaded screws was not accurately reproduced, but this should be easily corrected in future prototypes.

Owing to their functional properties, different component from these rhizomes, specially starch, mucilage and powders are being used by the food industry. Their ability to behave as thickener and gelling agent has allowed their incorporation in baked food, food paste and beverages.
