Moreover, it is shown that the presence of hBN in Ce[Formula see text] activated garnet phosphor converters, may increase the output power by up to 1.8 times and that such converters can withstand 218 W cm[Formula see text] excitation. Besides, hBN particles are also found to enhance the stability of the converters chromaticity and luminous efficacy of radiation. This means that the addition of hBN particles into silicone-based phosphor converter media is applicable in a wide range of different areas, in particular, the ones requiring a high optical power output density.The functional role of thyroid hormone (TH) in the cortex and hippocampus of mouse during neuronal development was investigated in this study. TH insufficiency showed a decrease in the expression of parvalbumin (PV) in the cortex and hippocampus of pups at postnatal day (PD) 14, while treatment with thyroxine from PD 0 to PD 14 ameliorated the PV loss. On the other hand, treatment with antithyroid agents in adulthood did not result in a decrease in the expression of PV in these areas. These results indicate the existence of a critical period of TH action during the early postnatal period. A decrease in MeCP2-positive neuronal nuclei was also observed in the cortical layers II-IV of the cerebral cortex. The brains were then stained with CUX1, a marker for cortical layers II-IV. These results suggest that TH insufficiency during the perinatal period strongly and broadly affects neuronal development.Multiple non-invasive tests are performed to diagnose coronary artery disease (CAD), but all are limited to either anatomical or functional assessments. Computed tomography derived Fractional Flow Reserve (CT-FFR) based on patient-specific lumped parameter models is a new test combining both characteristics simulating invasive FFR. This study aims to evaluate the added value of CT-FFR over other non-invasive tests to diagnose CAD. Patients with clinical suspicion of angina pectoris between 2010 and 2011 were included in this cross-sectional study. All underwent stress electrocardiography (X-ECG), SPECT, CT coronary angiography (CCTA) and CT-FFR. Invasive coronary angiography (ICA) and FFR were used as reference standard. Five models mimicking the clinical workflow were fitted and the area under receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) curve was used for comparison. 44% of the patients included in the analysis had a FFR of ≤ 0.80. The basic model including pre-test-likelihood and X-ECG had an AUROC of 0.79. The SPECT-strategy had an AUROC of 0.90 (p = 0.008), CCTA-strategy of 0.88 (p  less then  0.001), 0.93 when adding CT-FFR (p = 0.40) compared to 0.94 when combining CCTA and SPECT. This study shows adding on-site CT-FFR based on patient-specific lumped parameter models leads to an increased AUROC compared to the basic model. It improves the diagnostic work-up beyond SPECT or CCTA and is non-inferior to the combined strategy of SPECT and CCTA in the diagnosis of hemodynamically relevant CAD.One of the main goals of vaccine research is the development of adjuvants that can enhance immune responses and are both safe and biocompatible. We explored the application of the natural polymer hyaluronan (HA) as a promising immunological adjuvant for protein-based vaccines. Chemical conjugation of HA to antigens strongly increased their immunogenicity, reduced booster requirements, and allowed antigen dose sparing. HA-based bioconjugates stimulated robust and long-lasting humoral responses without the addition of other immunostimulatory compounds and proved highly efficient when compared to other adjuvants. Due to its intrinsic biocompatibility, HA allowed the exploitation of different injection routes and did not induce inflammation at the inoculation site. This polymer promoted rapid translocation of the antigen to draining lymph nodes, thus facilitating encounters with antigen-presenting cells. Selected bacterial species and microbiota-derived metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), have been reported to promote Treg homeostasis in the intestinal lamina propria. Furthermore, gut-draining mesenteric lymph nodes (mLNs) are particularly efficient sites for the generation of peripherally induced Tregs (pTregs). Despite this knowledge, the direct role of the microbiota and their metabolites in the early stages of pTreg induction within mLNs is not fully elucidated. Here, using an adoptive transfer-based pTreg induction system, we demonstrate that neither transfer of a dysbiotic microbiota nor dietary SCFA supplementation modulated the pTreg induction capacity of mLNs. Even mice housed under germ-free (GF) conditions displayed equivalent pTreg induction within mLNs. Further molecular characterization of these de novo induced pTregs from mLNs by dissection of their transcriptomes and accessible chromatin regions revealed that the microbiota indeed has a limited impact and does not contribute to the initialization of the Treg-specific epigenetic landscape. Overall, our data suggest that the microbiota is dispensable for the early stages of pTreg induction within mLNs.Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a spindle cell neoplasm of the skin and superficial soft tissue with a tendency for locally aggressive behavior; metastatic potential coincides with fibrosarcomatous transformation. The vast majority of DFSPs harbor the t(17;22) translocation resulting in a COL1A1-PDGFB fusion that drives autocrine growth stimulation via PDGFB overexpression. Here, we examined the utility of PDGFB RNA chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) for the diagnosis of DFSP. A total of 337 tumors represented in whole tissue sections and tissue microarrays, including 37 cases of DFSP and 300 histologically similar spindle cell tumors, were subjected to PDGFB RNA CISH using commercially available probes. PDGFB overexpression was observed by light microscopy in 24 of 26 conventional DFSPs (92%) and 11 of 11 fibrosarcomatous DFSPs (100%). One of two DFSPs negative for PDGFB by RNA CISH was found to harbor an uncommon alternative rearrangement involving PDGFD. All examined cases of histologic mimics were negative for PDGFB overexpression; limited PDGFB expression, not reaching an empirical threshold of greater than 5 puncta or one aggregate of chromogen in more than 25% of cells, was observed in 7 of 300 mimics (2.3%), including desmoplastic melanoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, angiosarcoma, and pleomorphic dermal sarcoma. Vascular PDGFB expression was seen in several tumor types. We conclude that PDGFB RNA CISH, with careful interpretation and the use of appropriate thresholds, may serve as a surrogate marker of PDGFB rearrangement and a useful ancillary tool for the diagnosis of DFSP.
According to the hypothesis of Gluckman and Hanson, mismatch between the developmental and postdevelopmental environments may lead to detrimental health impacts such as obesity. While several animal studies support the mismatch theory, there is a scarcity of evidence from human-based studies.

Our study aims to examine whether a mismatch between the developmental and young-adult environments affect obesity in young adults of the Jerusalem Perinatal Family Follow-Up Study.

Data from The Jerusalem Perinatal Family Follow-Up Study birth cohort was used to characterize early and late environments using offspring and parental sociodemographic and lifestyle information at birth, age 32 (n = 1140) and 42 (n = 404). Scores characterizing the early and late environments were constructed using factor analysis. To assess associations of mismatch with obesity, regression models were fitted using the first factor of each environment and adiposity measures at age 32 and 42.

The strength of ocean circulation during this period has been highly debated. Based on investigations of two marine sediment cores from the Davis Strait (1033 m water depth) and the northern Labrador Sea (2381 m), we demonstrate a significant influx of Atlantic-sourced water at both subsurface and intermediate depths during the LGM. Although surface-water conditions were cold and sea-ice loaded, the lower strata of the (proto) West Greenland Current carried a significant Atlantic (Irminger Sea-derived) Water signal, while at the deeper site the sea floor was swept by a water mass comparable with present Northeast Atlantic Deep Water. The persistent influx of these Atlantic-sourced waters entrained by boundary currents off SW Greenland demonstrates an active Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation during the LGM. Immediately after the LGM, deglaciation was characterized by a prominent deep-water ventilation event and potentially Labrador Sea Water formation, presumably related to brine formation and/or hyperpycnal meltwater flows.
