Knockdown of circCCDC66 caused the downregulation of a subset of genes which are regulated by circCCDC66-associated miRNAs and related to the modulation of apoptosis and the cell cycle, suppressing cell survival, promoting oxaliplatin-induced apoptosis and, thus, hindering the development of oxaliplatin-resistance (OxR). The induction of circCCDC66 was dependent on the time-course and dose of oxaliplatin treatment. Our analyses revealed that DHX9 harbors two phosphorylation sites of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-related kinases (PI3KKs) close to substrate-binding domains. Blockage of phosphorylation by either PI3KK inhibitors or nonphosphorable mutants of DHX9 decreased the oxaliplatin-induced circCCDC66 expression and the ability to develop chemoresistant cells. Taken together, we demonstrated and linked the functional role of DHX9 phosphorylation to oncogenic circCCDC66 expression during the development of resistance to oxaliplatin, providing a mechanistic insight for the development of therapeutic strategies to recurring/chemoresistant colorectal cancer.Vitamin K is essential for the synthesis of few coagulation factors. Vitamin K deficiency bleeding (VKDB) in infancy is classified according to the time of presentation early (within 24 h), classic (within 1 week after birth), and late (between 2 week and 6 months of age). VKDB in infancy, particularly late-onset VKDB, can be life-threatening. Therefore, all infants, including newborn infants, should receive vitamin K prophylaxis. Exclusive breastfeeding and cholestasis are closely associated with this deficiency and result in late-onset VKDB. Intramuscular prophylactic injections reduce the incidence of early-onset, classic, and late-onset VKDB. However, the prophylaxis strategy has recently been inclined toward oral administration because it is easier, safer, and cheaper to administer than intramuscular injection. Several epidemiological studies have shown that vitamin K oral administration is effective in the prevention of VKDB in infancy; however, the success of oral prophylaxis depends on the protocol regimen and parent compliance. Further national surveillance and studies are warranted to reveal the optimal prophylaxis regimen in term and preterm infants.Nitrate (NO3-) dual isotope analysis was performed in Zhanjiang Bay, which is a closed bay with intensive human activities in South China, to investigate seasonal changes in the main NO3- sources and their biogeochemical processes in the monsoon-controlled climate. The relatively low N/P ratios in Zhanjiang Bay suggests that nitrogen (N) is a limiting nutrient, which indicates that the increase of N is favorable for phytoplankton proliferation. However, a sufficient amount of ammonium was found in our study area owing to intensive human activities, which can support biological processes. Thus, less NO3- biological processes were found, indicating that NO3- isotopic characteristics may reveal details of the mixing from various sources. The Bayesian mixing model showed that NO3- in the upper bay originated from manure (43%), soil N (30%), N fertilizer (17%), and N precipitation (10%) during winter, which reflects the local human activities; while NO3- sources during summer were mainly N fertilizer (36%), soil N (32%), and manure (31%), indicating the source as the runoff from the upper river basin. Our results suggest that nitrate dual-isotope was very useful for tracing the main NO3- sources in the condition of the sufficient ammonium, and runoff exerted an important impact on the shift in NO3- sources between both the local source and the source from the upper river basin during the two seasons in this monsoon-controlled bay.The study of work-life balance has undergone significant development in recent years as a result of changes in society and the growing importance of human resources (HR) for companies. The objective of this paper is to present an integrated model of work-life balance strategies, including the impacts of the different policies and practices on the retention of talented HR, which can be a basis for further academic developments on this subject, as well as a roadmap for managers. Hence, we will analyze a case study carried out in a multinational company-a leader in the technology and tourism sectors, and importantly dependent on valuable human capital, for which the HR strategy aims to improve the performance of the firm in the medium and long term through analysis, planning, and flexibility.OBJECTIVES The aim of the present systematic review was to identify the factors that potentially influence health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in women with breast cancer (BC) in the Middle East. METHODS A systematic search of the PubMed, Ovid Medline, Cochrane, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Scopus, and Ebscohost databases was conducted to identify all relevant articles published in peer-reviewed journals up to April 2018. The keywords were "Health related quality of life", "Breast Cancer", and "Middle East countries". The Newcastle-Ottawa (NOS) scale was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included studies. Due to the methodological heterogeneity of the identified studies, no statistical pooling of the individual effect estimates was carried out; instead, the results were summarized descriptively. RESULTS A total of 5668 articles were screened and 33 studies were retained. The vast majority of these studies were cross-sectional and only two were longitudinal prospective studies. Concerning the methodological quality, only 39% were of high quality. Our comprehensive literature review identified several modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors associated with HRQoL, including sociodemographic, clinical, and treatment-related factors as well as behavioral and psychosocial factors. CONCLUSION This study has many implications for clinical practice and may provide a framework for establishing policy interventions to improve HRQoL among women with BC. Healthcare systems in the Middle East are encouraged to develop interventional programs targeting modifiable factors, particularly socio-demographic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors.The impact of waste incinerators is usually examined by measuring environmental pollutants. Biomonitoring has been limited, until now, to few metals and to adults. We explored accumulation of a comprehensive panel of metals in children free-living in an urban area hosting two waste incinerators. Children were divided by georeferentiation in exposed and control groups, and toenail concentrations of 23 metals were thereafter assessed. The percentage of children having toenail metal concentrations above the limit of detection was higher in exposed children than in controls for Al, Ba, Mn, Cu, and V. Exposed children had higher absolute concentrations of Ba, Mn, Cu, and V, as compared with those living in the reference area. The Tobit regression identified living in the exposed area as a significant predictor of Ba, Ni, Cu, Mn, and V concentrations, after adjusting for covariates. The concentrations of Ba, Mn, Ni, and Cu correlated with each other, suggesting a possible common source of emission. Exposure to emissions derived from waste incinerators in an urban setting can lead to body accumulation of specific metals in children. Toenail metal concentration should be considered a noninvasive and adequate biomonitoring tool and an early warning indicator which should integrate the environmental monitoring of pollutants.The long noncoding RNA(lncRNA) small nucleolar RNA host gene 3(SNHG3) has been reported to be upregulated in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, its biological role and underlying mechanisms in CRC have not been well studied. The expression levels of SNHG3 were measured in CRC tissues and cell lines by real time quantitative PCR. Functional assays, including the cell counting Kit-8, wound healing and transwell invasion assays, were used to determine the effect of SNHG3 on CRC cell proliferation, migration and invasion,respectively. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis, dual-Luciferase reporter assays and RNA immunoprecipitation were applied to determine the mechanism of SNHG3 in CRC. Mice xenograft models were established to assess the role of SNHG3 in CRC tumorigenicity and metastasis in vivo.The expression of SNHG3 was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues, which was positively correlated with advanced clinical stage, distant metastasis and poor overall survival. Functional experiments revealed that SNHG3 knockdown significantly decreased CRC growth and metastasis both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, SNHG3 could bind to miR-539, thereby up-regulating the expression of its target gene runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), and play an oncogenic role in CRC progression.
