Smokeless tobacco (ST) remains poorly regulated in Bangladesh. This study describes the prevalence and trends of ST use in Bangladesh, presents ST-related disease burden, identifies relevant policy gaps, and highlights key implications for future policy and practice for effective ST control in Bangladesh.

We analyzed secondary data from the two rounds (2009 and 2017) of The Global Adult Tobacco Survey, estimated ST-related disease burden, and conducted a review to assess differences in combustible tobacco and ST policies. In addition, we gathered views in a workshop with key stakeholders in the country on gaps in existing tobacco control policies for ST control in Bangladesh and identified policy priorities using an online survey.

Smokeless tobacco use, constituting more than half of all tobacco use in Bangladesh, declined from 27.2% (25.9 million) in 2009 to 20.6% (22 million) in 2017. However, in 2017, at least 16947 lives and 403460 Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) were lost across Bangladesh dlicies in Bangladesh. Thus, contrary to the decline in ST use and the usual time lag between tobacco exposure and the development of cancers, the ST-related disease burden is still on the rise in Bangladesh. Strengthening ST control at this stage can accelerate this decline and reduce ST related morbidity and mortality.Smoking is considered as the major environmental risk factor for periodontal diseases. Smokers have a higher risk for severe periodontitis with more periodontal tissue destruction, more gingival recession, and more susceptibility for tooth loss. The aim of this narrative review is to provide up-to-date evidence on the clinical outcomes of periodontal treatment in smokers. Electronic databases were searched for studies that compare the clinical outcomes in smokers and non-smokers following non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatment modalities and also during the supportive periodontal treatment. Clinical studies published before May 2021 were included in the review. Smokers have a higher risk for recurrence of periodontal disease and the response to non-surgical as well as surgical periodontal treatment is not as good as that of non-smokers. Moreover, there is a dose-response effect in the adverse effects of smoking on periodontal health. Compared to non-smokers, smoker patients with periodontitis tend to respond less favorably to non-surgical and surgical periodontal treatment, and exhibit recurrence more frequently during supportive periodontal treatment. Along with the periodontal treatment, smokers may be encouraged to quit. Long follow-up and the communication between the dentist and the patient give a great opportunity for such counseling.The objective of this paper is to propose formal definitions for the terms 'protein aggregate' and 'protein-containing complex' such that the descriptions and usages of these terms in biomedical literature are unified and that those portions of reality are correctly represented. To this end, we surveyed the literature to assess the need for a distinction between these entities, then compared the features of usages and definitions found in the literature to the definitions for those terms found in Bioportal ontologies. Based on the results of this comparison, we propose updated definitions for the terms 'protein aggregate' and 'protein-containing complex'. Thus far, we propose the following distinguishing factors first, that one important difference lies in whether an entity is disposed to change type in response to certain structural alterations, such as dissociation of a continuant part, and second that an important difference lies in the ability of the entity to realize its function after such an event occurs. These distinctions are reflected in the proposed definitions.Muscle fatigue is a decline in muscle maximum force during contraction and can influence the fall risk among people. This study is aimed at identifying the effect of fatigue on prospective fall risk in transfemoral amputees (TFA). Fourteen subjects were involved in this study with TFA (34.7 ± 8.1 yrs, n = 7) and normal subjects (31.1 ± 7.4 yrs, n = 7). Fatigue of lower limb muscles was induced with the fatigue protocol. Subjects were tested prefatigue and postfatigue using the standardized fall risk assessment. All results were calculated and compared between pre- and postfatigue to identify fatigue's effect on both groups of subjects. The results showed that the fall risk increased significantly during pre- and postfatigue for TFA (p = 0.018), while there were no significant differences in normal subjects (p = 0.149). Meanwhile, the fall risk between TFA and normal subjects for prefatigue (p = 0.082) and postfatigue (p = 0.084) also showed no significant differences. The percentage (%) of increased fall risk for TFA was 19.2% compared to normal subjects only 16.7%. However, 61.4% increased of % fall risk in TFA after fatigue by using the baseline of the normal subject as the normalized % of fall risk. The increasing fall risks for TFA after fatigue are three times higher than the potential fall risk in normal subjects. The result indicates that they need to perform more precautions while prolonging lower limb activities. These results showed the implications of fatigue that can increase the fall risk due to muscle fatigue from repetitive and prolonged activities. Therefore, rehabilitation programs can be done very safely and precisely so that therapists can pursue fitness without aggravating existing injuries.The administration of plant extracts to broilers may be a way to mitigate the effects of heat stress. Salix extract was given for 24 hours and was renewed every 6 hours. The results showed that giving Salix extract 100 mg/L in drinking water to chickens exposed to heat (HS + 100) reduced the value of the H/L ratio. Giving Salix extract 50-100 mg/L in drinking water caused an upregulated AQP2 expression; on the other hand, it downregulated HSP-70 expression, in chicken kidney tubules both exposed to heat stress and nonexposed to heat stress. In conclusion, exposure to heat stress in broiler chickens and giving Salix extract can increase the formation of aquaporin 2 compounds and suppress the formation of HSP70.This study investigated feeding preference and habitat association of waterbucks in Nechisar National Park from November 2016 to August 2017 by total count and direct observation methods. From this survey, 20 plant species were observed to be the food items consumed by waterbucks. Waterbucks were mostly grazers than browser. The plant species consumed by waterbucks was highly significant between seasons (χ 2 = 121.34, df = 1, p less then 0.05). Out of 20 total plant species consumed, annual grass (11.5%), Leersia virginica (8.4%), and Cynodon dactylon (8.4%) were the most frequently consumed food items, but Tamarindus indica (2.9%), Balanites aegyptica (3.3%), and Acacia polycantha (2.36%) were the least consumed food items. There was significant difference between plant species consumed during both seasons (χ 2 = 177.67, df = 19, p less then 0.05). The Shannon-Wiener diversity index result revealed that there were different varieties of food items for waterbucks in dry season (H' = 2.9) than in wet season (H' = 2.6). Young leaves comprised the largest proportion of plant parts consumed by waterbucks compared to others. There was a highly significant difference in feeding plant parts in both seasons (χ 2 = 88.5, df = 7, p less then 0.05). Waterbucks spent more time on feeding in the morning and late afternoon during both seasons. The total number of waterbucks in each habitat varied due to food availability in different seasons. Different conservation measures should be taken against waterbuck reduction and create appropriate environment for waterbuck.

Qualitative research methods were used to develop, refine, and evaluate hardcopy and electronic versions of a 45-item English language survey. The accuracy of the instrument was measured by recorded structured interview, and its precision was measured by comparison to its administration to a group of uncompensated volunteers.

Comparison of survey and structured interview data demonstrated high levels of accuracy. Highly concordant with significant levels of correlation and of direct association indicated favorable precision. Ninety-three percent of respondents believed that POCT could improve their care, and 56% identified having a POCT in their home as a top priority. Accuracy, insurance coverage, immediacy of results, and ease of use were identified as the most important characteristics of a POCT.

Given this constraint, we propose a framework that views these algorithms as a collection of computational units (cu), a tightly coupled set of both mathematical operations and data. This view facilitates a reduction in RC (RRC), thereby allowing for faster execution plans. Inspired by the floor tiling approach in VLSI, we look to engineer solutions for RRC while possibly reconfiguring the underlying computing system's compiler technology stack. We start by showing that under the assumption that the computational system has unbounded but finite memory (i.e., the memory is large enough to hold all intermediate values) and that each cu has a uniform cost, our approach reduces to a well-studied directed bandwidth problem for the directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). Next, we consider a more realistic scenario where the computing system has limited memory and concurrent execution while still assuming a uniform cost.
