Replacement UPVC Door Handles
You can find the ideal handle for your door, whether you are replacing your handles or adding security. The Upvc handles are simple to install and meet the 92mm minimum central distance for multipoint locks.
The most important measurements to consider are the backplate fixing centers and key hole dimensions and levers. Make sure you compare these to your current measurements prior to ordering.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles consist of a lever on one side and a paddle-shaped handle on the other. These are designed to be used with key wind locks although they can also be fitted to multipoint split spindle door locks (though you'll need a separate dual spindle lock case).
Once you have selected the correct handle for the doors, the finishes will be displayed in the drop-down menu. Not all styles of handle are available in every finish though and you should always look over the sizes and technical drawings for the specific product you want to make sure that you can get the right size and fit.
It is essential that when selecting a new set of Upvc lever pad handles, they match the PZ (distance from the handle spindle to the centre of the hole of the cylinder) of your multipoint door locks. This is because the handles must be lined up to ensure that doors stay locked, whether you are looking at them from the outside or inside. Our handles are designed to fit most standard cylinders, but it is always worth double-checking before purchasing.
You will need to remove the handles on your current handle and remove the lock case if you're upgrading to dual spindle handle levers since this will require an additional split inline cylinder. You can purchase these separately. We have included a diagram of the technical aspects in the images of each product.
It is recommended to loosen the screws holding your existing door handle and then inspect the mechanism. You may need to loosen the screws further when they aren't tight. Then you can remove the spindle and handle and install your new upvc door handle. Before screwing the handle into the frame, it is recommended to ensure that it is in the right place. You can do this by putting your finger in the gap between the frame of the door and the handle to ensure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
Lever door handles operate an a multi-point lock using an Euro Cylinder and can be found on most upvc double doors, aluminium doors and some wooden doors. They are equipped with a lever inside and an outside paddle and are generally available in two different types. Sprung - these include a spring cassette inside the backplate to move the handle lever to an upright position. Non-sprung - these do not have a spring mechanism and must be manually pulled to bring the handle lever to a horizontal position.
To fix the door handle of a lever that is sagging you must find the hole for access to the detent or pin, which is usually a small round or rectangle with a protruding hole that is located on the opposite side of the handle base plate. Once you've located it, you can loosen the set screw with the help of a screwdriver, and then remove it to allow the lever, allowing it to return to the horizontal position.
When the handle is in a horizontal position you can re-install the screws and tighten them to make sure the handle is fixed to the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking product to the threads of the screw to increase grip and stop them from loosing over time.
Lever door handles that droop could be the result of many factors. The most common reason is that the fixings aren't tight which causes the lever bearing to bind against the door. It could also be that the levers aren't being operated at a straight angle and this is causing the latch mechanism, preventing it from fully springing back into operation.
Another common reason is that the lever that is sprung is not working properly. This is typically due to the spring not being in the proper position within the backplate. To check if the handle returns to horizontal, simply move it.
If your door handles are loose, it is important to identify the issue fast, as it could cause excessive wear on the screws and possibly to the handle falling off of the base plate. You should also tighten any loose screws on a regular basis to prevent them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
These upvc handles are also called "Snib handle sets" and have a snib lock button at the top of the lever. If you do not have a dummy locking device you can use this to lock the door. They are typically fitted with a Fullex 68PZ (that's 68mm between the spindle's center and lever or the lock centre) door lock. We also stock a variety of other door handles with 68PZ from manufacturers like Ferco and Fab & Fix.
You can update your home by changing the handles on your doors regardless of whether you're replacing your existing handles or installing new ones on doors that you built. There are various styles available for door handles made of upvc, including the traditional lever on the backplate. Other options include straight or curly short latches, and knobs that resemble dummy knobs to lock multi-points. These are ideal for French doors.
Rose door handles are oval or circular versions of lever-on-backplate handles. These door handles are characterized by a lever or knob that is mounted on a backplate. The backplate is removable for concealed fixing.
There are a wide range of chrome and colored finishes available for these handles that match your door and other hardware, like bolts, knobs and hinges. Some handles are supplied with grub screws that help firmly attach the lever or knob to the spindle. Some handles come with bathroom spindles which can be used to make bathroom locks. They also come with a thumbturn release mechanism, and can be used on doors for bathrooms.
Mortise
If your uPVC front door handle is stuck in the open position, the problem will most likely be with the tubular latch. repairmywindowsanddoors could be due to many things, but the most common is an absence of lubrication within the latch plate. This can be fixed quite easily by simply opening the door and spraying lubricant onto the lock and handle. It could also be that the latch plate is detached from the backplate. This can be a bit more of a problem and will require a specialist to fix.
A multipoint door handle is an ideal solution to the problem of a door handle that is stuck. These handles mount through the faceplate of the door and are operated by the thumb turn knob or key that triggers a cam that locks the deadbolt. The handles are available in a variety of different sizes to fit various types of uPVC doors. They are also available with a variety of attractive finishes to match the hardware you already have. These handles are available via the internet or at the local locksmith. They are simple to install and come with clear directions.
You'll have to know your cylinder's PZ size in order to choose the correct replacement handle set. This is the distance from the edge of the frame of the door to the center point of the handle hole in millimetres. You'll also require the type of lock for your door, irrespective of whether it is a mortise or hook lock. The most efficient way to locate the correct handles once you know the measurements is to use the brand filter on the website. This will help narrow down your options, and then you can choose the appropriate size.
A typical handle set comes with the handle unit and a pair of different length screws as well as drill guides and installation instructions. The smarter versions, such as the Igloohome Smart Mortise 2+, include an entire mortice lock that has built-in keypad. These are more sophisticated units that are best suited to professional installers or highly skilled DIYers. Some handle sets have various additional accessories, such as weather strips, which can be used to enhance the look of the door.
