The study objective is to identify risk factors associated with fatigue among long-term OPC survivors.

This cross-sectional study included disease-free OPC survivors treated curatively between 2000 and 2013 who were surveyed from September 2015 to July 2016. The outcome variable was patient-reported fatigue. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with moderate to severe fatigue.

Among 863 OPC survivors, 17.4% reported moderate to severe fatigue. Self-reported thyroid problems (OR 2.01; p=0.003), current cigarette smoking at time of survey (OR 3.85; p=0.001), late lower cranial neuropathy (OR 3.44; p=0.002), and female sex (OR 1.91; p=0.010) were concurrent risk factors of reporting moderate to severe fatigue. Ipsilateral intensity-modulated radiotherapy (OR 0.18; p=0.014) was associated with lower risk of reporting moderate to severe fatigue.

Our study identified thyroid problems, smoking, and late lower cranial neuropathy as associated with moderate to severe fatigue. These findings should be further validated in prospective studies to address fatigue among OPC survivors.

Paediatric patients with disorders that involve brain functioning are particularly vulnerable with respect to including them in shared decision-making. Current tools are mostly paper or digital patient information. We lay the groundwork for improving engagement with a concept that we coined 'the Self-Portrait'. The main goals were to identify (1) obstacles and (2) design parameters that enable patient participation.

A research-through-design approach was utilized in nine patients with brain-related disorders (4-12 years), 15 parents and 15 medical professionals, involving contextual research (interviews and observations) within the paediatric hospital and patients' homes and codesign. Sensitizing materials and early instances of design solutions were deployed as catalysts for communication. Five rounds of enriched interviews and design reviews were thematically analysed to answer the research questions.

However, sneak currents in these devices can result in misreading of the data, thus limiting the applicability of RRAM. Complementary resistive switching (CRS) memory consisting of two antiserial RRAMs can considerably reduce sneak currents; however, complicated device architectures and manufacturing processes still remain as challenges. Herein, an effective and simple approach for fabricating CRS memory devices using self-assembled block copolymer micelles is reported. Cu ions are selectively placed in the core of polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) spherical micelles, and a hexagonally packed micelle monolayer is prepared through spin-coating. The micelle monolayer can be a symmetrical resistive switching layer, because the micelles and Cu act as dielectric and active metals in memory devices, respectively. The locally enhanced electric field and Joule heating achieved by the structured Cu atoms inside the micelles promote metal ionization and ion migration in a controlled manner, thus allowing for position selectivity during resistive switching. The micelle-based memory device exhibits stable and reliable CRS behavior, with a nonoverlapping and narrow distribution of threshold voltages. Therefore, this approach is promising for fabricating CRS memory devices for high-performance and ultrahigh-density RRAM applications.The CD36/FAT scavenger receptor/fatty acids transporter regulates cellular lipid accumulation important for inflammation, atherosclerosis, lipotoxicity, and initiation of cellular senescence. Here we compared the regulatory effects of the vitamin E analogs alpha-tocopherol (αT), alpha-tocopheryl phosphate (αTP), and αTP/βCD (a nanocarrier complex between αTP and β-cyclodextrin [βCD]) and investigated their regulatory effects on lipid accumulation, phagocytosis, and senescence in THP-1 monocytes and macrophages. Both, αTP and αTP/βCD inhibited CD36 surface exposition stronger than αT leading to more pronounced CD36-mediated events such as inhibition of DiI-labeled oxLDL uptake, phagocytosis of fluorescent Staphylococcus aureus bioparticles, and cell proliferation. When compared to βCD, the complex of αTP/βCD extracted cholesterol from cellular membranes with higher efficiency and was associated with the delivery of αTP to the cells. Interestingly, both, αTP and more so αTP/βCD inhibited lysosomal senescence-associated beta-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) activity and increased lysosomal pH, suggesting CD36-mediated uptake into the endo-lysosomal phagocytic compartment. Here, a solvent-free synthesis and processing of conductive composites with excellent electrical and mechanical properties for transducers are presented. The composites are prepared by in situ polymerization of cyclosiloxane monomers in the presence of graphene nanoplatelets. The low viscosity of the monomer allows for easy dispersion of the filler, eliminating the need for a solvent. After the polymerization, a cross-linking agent is added at room temperature, the composite is solvent-free screen-printed, and the cross-linking reaction is initiated by heating. The best material shows conductivity σ = 8.2 S cm-1 , Young's modulus Y10% = 167 kPa, and strain at break s = 305%. To examine the efficacy of weight-adjusted D-cycloserine (DCS) (35 or 70 mg) relative to placebo augmentation of intensive exposure therapy for youth with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) in a double-blind, randomised controlled trial, and examine whether antidepressant medication or patient age moderated outcomes.

Youth (n = 100, 7-17 years) with OCD were randomised in a 11 ratio to either DCS + exposure (n = 49) or placebo + exposure (n = 51). Assessments occurred posttreatment, 1 month later, and at 3 and 6 months. Pills were ingested immediately before sessions.

Significant improvements on all outcomes were observed at posttreatment, and to 6-month follow-up. Treatment arms did not differ across time, with no significant time-by-medication interactions on symptom severity (T1 to T2 estimate 9.3, 95% confidence interval [CI] -11.2 to -7.4, and estimate -10.7, 95% CI -12.6 to -8.7), diagnostic severity (T1 to T2 estimate -2.0, 95% CI -2.4 to -1.5 and estimate -2.5, 95% CI -3.0 to -2.0) or global functioning (T1 to T2 estimate 13.8, 95% CI 10.6 to 17.0, and estimate 16.6, 95% CI 13.2 to 19.9). Neither antidepressants at baseline nor age moderated primary outcomes. There were significantly fewer responders/remitters at 1- and 6-month follow-up among youth in the DCS condition stabilised on SSRIs, relative to youth not taking SSRIs.

Different isoforms of TnI and TnC are expressed in the thorax dorsal longitudinal muscle (flight muscle) and the hind leg extensor tibiae muscle (jump muscle) of the migratory locust, Locusta migratoria. The major Tn complexes in the flight muscle and the jump muscle are Tn-171 (TnT1/TnI7/TnC1) and Tn-153 (TnT1/TnI5/TnC3), respectively. Here, we prepared a number of recombinant Tn complexes and the reconstituted thin filaments, and investigated their regulation on thin filament. Although both Tn-171 and Tn-153 regulate thin filament in a Ca2+ -dependent manner, the extent of Ca2+ activation mediated by Tn-171 was significantly lower than that by Tn-153. We demonstrated that TnC1 and TnC3, rather than TnI5 and TnI7, are responsible for the different levels of the thin filament activation. Mutagenesis of TnC1 and TnC3 shows that the low level of TnC1-mediated thin filament activation can be attributed to the noncanonical residue Leu60 in the EF-hand-II of TnC1. However, the poor cell permeability and safety concerns limit their medical applications, and biocompatible strategies for efficient delivery of functional CpG ODNs are highly desirable.

Self-assembled, cell membrane-coated CpG nanoparticles (NP) are prepared, and their physicochemical properties are characterized. The uncoated and membrane-coated CpG NP are compared for their biocompatibility, cellular uptake kinetics, endocytic pathways, subcellular localization, and immunostimulatory activities in macrophages and microglia.

Macrophage- or microglia-derived cell membrane camouflaging alters the endocytic pathways of CpG NP, promotes their targeted delivery to the cells with homologous membrane, ensures their endosomal localization, and enhances their immunomodulatory effects.

We design a type of biomimetic NP consisting of self-assembled CpG NP core and cell membrane shell, and demonstrate its advantages in the modulation of peripheral and central immune cells.
