Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds add drama to kids' rooms and also give them a sense of adventure. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to hold books or a reading lamp in each sleeping space to make bunk beds more attractive to children.
A lot of our kids' beds bunk are convertible to two beds that are complete, perfect if you plan to let your children move to their own bedrooms at some point. Choose from finishes like brushed gray, cream white, and rich walnut.
Stairs or Ladders
If you're looking for bunk beds for kids you can choose to pick between ladders or stairs. Ladders are easy to install and are less expensive. They also offer an easy way to climb into the top bunk bed. They are also more secure than stairs because they offer a larger surface area for children to walk on and include an integrated handrail. Ladders also usually have grooves on the steps, which prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
If you prefer the design and appearance of stairs they could be a more elegant addition for your bunk bed. Staircases can also be used in rooms with limited space as they do not protrude like ladders. They are usually constructed of metal or wood and can complement various styles of bedrooms. Some staircases even include integrated storage drawers, which are an excellent way to add more space to the bunk bed.
When choosing between a ladder or stairs it is important to consider the age of your child. It is recommended that children less than six years old do not sleep on the top bunk. Older children who can climb vertically could prefer stairs than using a ladder. Additionally should you be planning on using your bunk bed as a guest bed for younger children or adults with limited mobility stairs are the most suitable option.
A straight staircase that runs along the side of the bed requires 95" of space on either side. If you don't have that much space, you could opt for a u-shaped stairs that doesn't require as much space but still provides a safe and secure means of accessing the top bunk. Certain beds offer the option of distancing the stairs when not being used, which reduces their footprint and makes them more suited for multipurpose rooms. There are also stairs that connect to the top of the bed. This eliminates the need for separate handrails and makes it easier to climb up and to the bottom for kids.
Guard Rails
Guard rails let kids climb in and out of their beds independently and give them an experience of independence and confidence. However, they must be placed properly, making sure that there are no gaps or movement occurs between guard rails and the bed frame. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer when installing guard rails and ensure that you examine them regularly to ensure that they aren't loose or have holes that could result in trapping.
Keep bunk beds out of electrical appliances and other items that can become projectiles while your children are playing or sleeping. Make sure you place bunks away from windows, which can be a danger to fall in the event that children climb on the top level.
It is possible to install a nightlight on the ladder to illuminate the way up and down in the event that your child gets up at night to use the bathroom, or if they are woken by the sound of a storm and are forced to leave their bedroom.
A safety net can be installed on the top of the bunk to prevent children from falling out while they sleep or play. This is a great idea, especially for older children who tend to sleep on the top bunk.
The guardrails must be securely attached to the bunk beds. They cannot be removed without tools. The openings in the guardrail above the mattress base must not be more than 3.5 inches wide to avoid strangulation or entrapment. To test this, insert the wedge block as shown in Figure 1 into each opening in the lower edge of the highest member of the guardrail and above the mattress's underside foundation. Apply 33 lbf (147 N) in a perpendicular direction to the plane of the largest edge of the block for 1 minute.
It's a good idea to instruct your children not to hang any objects on the ladder or guardrail, such as belts, clothes, or sports equipment. Instead you should utilize a rack for clothes to stop the objects from creating a strangulation risk for your child. Also, make sure that more than one kid is not sleeping on the top floor of the bunk, since this could cause an unsafe imbalance that could cause falling.
Mattresses
Consider your child's age and size when selecting a mattress for a bunk bed. A bunk mattress should last for at least eight years, or until siblings are no longer sharing the same bedroom and you'll need to choose a mattress that is designed to expand with your child and still provide sufficient support as they grow older.
Bunk mattress sizes are usually full-size or twin, and there are a variety of options that will fit either. If your kiddos suffer from asthma or allergies you should choose an allergy-free mattress with a dust mite barrier as well as an wicking cover for moisture. Mattresses with an antimicrobial coating will protect the foam against harmful bacteria and germs.
The comfort of your mattress is crucial. Children are typically lighter than adults and need a mattress which is firm, but also comfortable. A lot of hybrid and latex mattresses have a firm side and a softer side to meet the needs of both kids and adults.
Memory foam mattresses are good for children, but we wouldn't recommend them due to their tendency not to cool well and can be hard on the spines of small children. Think about a hybrid or latex mattress that provides solid support and cooling infusions that allow your child or guests to sleep comfortably.
A mattress with a low profile is usually the best option for kids bunk bed s. These mattresses are designed to be smaller than standard mattresses, and increase the height of the safety rails on the top bunk. They eliminate "filler" materials to provide top quality and durability with a slim design.
If your child is looking to test a mattress that's more hefty than a regular mattress, think about an innerspring or hybrid model with comfort layers above that can be removed or replaced as your child grows. These models will provide an idea of the durability of the mattress as your child grows. You can also include an extra bed skirt or mattress pad to stop it from sliding. Some beds even have side rails or a lip built-in to stop this from happening.
Stores
Bunk beds can be an excellent option to free up space in shared kids rooms. They also can be a cheaper alternative to purchasing two separate full sized single beds. Some bunks offer the option of a trundle bed that can be hidden under the bunk that is not being used.
To maximize space and storage in a room that has bunk beds, you should consider creating a kids' bedroom furniture set that includes desks, dressers and/or bookcases. This will let you store all of your child's clothes along with toys and other personal items in one place instead of cramming everything in chests or closets that are overstuffed. These combination kids bedroom furniture sets are available from a number of retailers and usually meet all federal safety standards.
Stacked bunks can be an imaginative playground as children can transform the spaces underneath into cosy hideaways and secret play zones. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate children' space. It can be used to sleep, play or even for twirling superhero capes. The room is decorated with a bubble wallcovering made of Chasing Paper, and the ceiling is painted Benjamin Moore Blue Jean.
If you cannot install an entryway to your bunk beds then a ladder is an option. The ladders are constructed with a combination of Single Socket Tee Flange, Single Socket Tee and 90 Degree Side Outlet Tee fittings and can be easily adjusted to increase or decrease the distance between rungs of a ladder to make it easier for children to climb. The ladder's rungs are also set so that they are flush with the ground instead of above it, to make climbing less intimidating.
Another method to maximize space in a room that has bunk beds is by installing loft kids beds which can be lowered to just above the floor. This lets you move desks, dressers or toy chests right beneath the beds. This is an effective maximize of space and is a great choice for small bedrooms or even in a large family home where the beds need to be able to accommodate a lot of sleepers.
