The recent pandemic of COVID-19 has not only shaken the healthcare but also economic structure around the world. In addition to these direct effects, it has also brought in some indirect difficulties owing to the information epidemic (hereafter termed as infodemic) on social media. We aimed to understand the nature of panic social media users in India are experiencing due to the flow of (mis)information. We further extend this investigation to other countries. We performed a cross-sectional study on 1075 social media users from India and 29 other countries. This revealed a significant increase in social media usage and the rise of panic (symbolizing a sense of alarm and/or fear) over time in India. Several of these behaviors are unique to social media users in India possibly because of later outbreak of COVID-19 and a prolonged uninterrupted lockdown. The amount of social media usage might not be causal but has a significant role in generating panic among the people in India. As multiple countries are entering into the second phase of lockdown, this study focused on India might provide a unique perspective of how various factors, including infodemic, affect the mental state of individuals around the globe.

The online version supplementary material available at 10.1007/s13278-021-00750-2.This work investigates how bovine serum albumin (BSA), a commonly used protein in the fabrication of electrochemical immunosensors, can impact on the sensitivity of detection when integrated with antibody (Ab) pre-encapsulated with (i) insulating polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibre (i.e., GCE-PAN-Ab-BSA immunosensor) or (ii) conducting PAN-grafted iron (II) phthalocyanine (FePc) (i.e., GCE-PAN@FePc-Ab-BSA immunosensor), using Vibrio cholerae toxin as a case study bioanalyte. Both immunosensors show different charge-transfer kinetics that strongly impact on their immunosensitive detection. From the electrochemical data, GCE-PAN-Ab-BSA is more insulating with the presence of BSA, while the GCE-PAN@FePc-Ab-BSA is more conducting with BSA. The CV of the GCE-PAN-Ab-BSA is dominated by radial diffusion process, while that of the GCE-PAN@FePc-Ab-BSA is planar diffusion process. The behaviour of GCE-PAN@FePc-Ab-BSA has been associated with the facile coordination of BSA and FePc that permits co-operative charge-transport of the redox probe, while that of the GCE-PAN-Ab-BSA is related to the interaction-induced PAN-BSA insulating state that suppresses charge-transport. As a consequence of these different interaction processes, GCE-PAN-Ab-BSA immunosensor provides higher electroanalytical performance for the detection of Vibrio cholerae toxin (with sensitivity of 16.12 Ω/log [VCT, g/mL] and limit of detection (LoD) of 3.20 × 10-13 g/mL compared to those of the GCE-PAN@FePc-Ab-BSA (4.16 Ω/log (VCT, g mL-1) and 2.00 × 10-12 g/mL). The study confirms the need for a thorough understanding of the physico-chemistries of the electrode platforms for the construction of immunosensors. Although this work is on immunosensors for cholera infection, it may well apply to other immunosensors.Aerial emission sampling of four natural gas boiler stack plumes was conducted using an unmanned aerial system (UAS) equipped with a lightweight sensor-sampling system (the "Kolibri") for measurement of nitrogen oxide (NO), and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon dioxide (CO2), and carbon monoxide (CO). Flights (n=22) ranged from 11 to 24min in duration at two different sites. STAT inhibitor The UAS was maneuvered into the plumes with the aid of real-time CO2 telemetry to the ground operators and, at one location, a second UAS equipped with an infrared-visible camera. Concentrations were collected and recorded at 1Hz. The maximum CO2, CO, NO, and NO2 concentrations in the plume measured were 10000, 7, 27, and 1.5 ppm, respectively. Comparison of the NO x emissions between the stack continuous emission monitoring systems and the UAS-Kolibri for three boiler sets showed an average of 5.6% and 3.5% relative difference for the run-weighted and carbon-weighted average emissions, respectively. To our knowledge, this is the first evidence of the accuracy performance of UAS-based emission factors against a source of known strength.Airborne and ground-based Pandora spectrometer NO2 column measurements were collected during the 2018 Long Island Sound Tropospheric Ozone Study (LISTOS) in the New York City/Long Island Sound region, which coincided with early observations from the Sentinel-5P TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) instrument. Both airborne- and ground-based measurements are used to evaluate the TROPOMI NO2 Tropospheric Vertical Column (TrVC) product v1.2 in this region, which has high spatial and temporal heterogeneity in NO2. First, airborne and Pandora TrVCs are compared to evaluate the uncertainty of the airborne TrVC and establish the spatial representativeness of the Pandora observations. The 171 coincidences between Pandora and airborne TrVCs are found to be highly correlated (r 2 =0.92 and slope of 1.03), with the largest individual differences being associated with high temporal and/or spatial variability. These reference measurements (Pandora and airborne) are complementary with respect to temporal coverage aese cloud-impacted points, TROPOMI has an overall low bias of 19%-33% during the LISTOS timeframe of June-September 2018. Part of this low bias is caused by coarse a priori profile input from the TM5-MP model; replacing these profiles with those from a 12 km North American Model-Community Multiscale Air Quality (NAMCMAQ) analysis results in a 12%-14% increase in the TrVCs. Even with this improvement, the TROPOMI-NAMCMAQ TrVCs have a 7%-19% low bias, indicating needed improvement in a priori assumptions in the air mass factor calculation. Future work should explore additional impacts of a priori inputs to further assess the remaining low biases in TROPOMI using these datasets.We present context-aware benchmarking and performance engineering of a mature TByte-scale air quality database system which was created by the Tropospheric Ozone Assessment Report (TOAR) and contains one of the world's largest collections of near-surface air quality measurements. As a service that is used by more than 350 users of the international air quality research community, our web service must be easily accessible and functionally flexible, while delivering good performance. The current on-demand calculations of air quality metrics outside the database together with the necessary transfer of large volume raw data are identified as the major performance bottleneck. In this study, we therefore explore and benchmark in-database approaches for the statistical processing, which results in performance enhancements of up to 32%.The present study provides the first report of heterologous expression of phytochelatin synthase from Anabaena PCC 7120 (anaPCS) into the hairy roots of Artemisia annua. Transformed hairy roots of A. annua expressing anaPCS gene showed better tolerance to heavy metals, viz., arsenic (As) and cadmium (Cd) owing to 143 and 191% more As- and Cd-accumulation, respectively, as compared to normal roots with a bioconcentration factor (BCF) of 9.7 and 21.1 for As and Cd, respectively. Under As and Cd stresses, transformed hairy roots possessed significantly higher amounts of phytochelatins and thiols probably due to the presence of both AaPCS (Artemisia annua PCS) and anaPCS. In addition, artemisinin synthesis was also induced in transformed hairy roots under heavy metals stresses. In-silico analysis revealed the presence of conserved motifs in both AaPCS and anaPCS sequences as well as structural modelling of PCS functional domain was conducted. Interaction of AaPCS and anaPCS proteins with CdCl2 and sodium arsenate gene ontology analysis gave insights to anaPCS functioning in transformed hairy roots of A. annua. The study provides transformed hairy roots of A. annua as an efficient tool for effective phytoremediation with added advantages of artemisinin extraction from hairy roots used for phytoremediation.

This Scientific Opinion addresses the ad hoc method developed (i) to give a global state of play as regards resistant animal pathogens that cause transmissible animal diseases, (ii) to identify the most relevant bacteria in the EU and (iii) to summarise their actual or potential animal health impact, and to perform their assessment for being listed and categorised according to the criteria of Articles 7, 5, 9 and 8 within the Animal Health Law (AHL) framework. An extensive literature review is carried out to give the global state of play of selected resistant bacteria that constitute a threat to animal health (i). An expert judgement procedure, based on the outcome of the literature review, is applied to identify which among those bacteria subjected to the literature review are the 'most relevant' in the European Union (ii). Their animal health impact in the European Union and their assessment for being listed and categorised according to the AHL framework will follow the 'ad hoc method for the assessment on listing and categorisation of animal diseases within the framework of the Animal Health Law' that EFSA has developed in the past (iii). The assessment of (i) and (ii) is addressed in distinct scientific opinions that are published separately by animal species of interest (dogs and cats, horses, pigs, poultry, cattle, small ruminants, rabbits and aquatic animal species). The assessment of (iii) is addressed in distinct scientific opinions and published separately by the animal pathogen.Following a request from the European Commission, the EFSA Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of a feed additive consisting on Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (formerly Lactobacillus plantarum) CECT 8350 and Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri) CECT 8700 (AQ02) for suckling piglets. The additive can be presumed safe for the target species, the consumer and the environment. In the absence of data, the Panel could not conclude on the potential of the additive to be a skin or eye irritant or a skin sensitiser. The additive should be considered a respiratory sensitiser. In the absence of adequate data, the Panel cannot conclude on the efficacy of AQ02 as a zootechnical feed additive for suckling piglets.Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of vitamin B2 98% and vitamin B2 80% in the form of riboflavin produced by fermentation with a genetically modified strain of Bacillus subtilis (KCCM 10445) as nutritional additives in feed and water for drinking for all animal species. The production strain harbours antimicrobial resistance genes. With the data available the Panel is not in the position to confirm the correspondence between the strain deposited under accession number KCCM 10445 and the strain under the current assessment. The production strain and its recombinant DNA were not detected in the final products. Therefore, the additives do not pose any safety concern associated with the genetic modification of the production strain. The additives are safe for the target species, the consumer and the environment. Vitamin B2 80% is not hazardous by inhalation.
