The PD-SAS+group had significantly higher scores in UPDRS-III
(41.1±17.7 vs. 30.9±11.7,p<0.05) compared to PD-SAS- group. The groups did not differ in respect to post-DBS change in UPDRS-II, UPDRS-III, Epworth sleepiness scale, Hamilton depression rating scale and PDQ39 scores. Positive airway pressure therapy had no impact on post-DBS outcome.

The presence of SAS prior to STN-DBS is not associated with worse outcome after surgery.We present a case of indolent neurolymphomatosis in a 55-year-old male patient with worsening pain and weakness in his right leg over the past few months. The patient has a past medical history of type II diabetes mellitus, four-year history of worsening left foot drop, left lower limb pain and weakness attributed to diabetic amyotrophy, and back pain. The new right-sided symptoms prompted further imaging which revealed a left sciatic nerve mass which was biopsied. Initial biopsy results were inconclusive. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed the full extent of this patient's disease and helped plan for a more representative biopsy site, which finally established a diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma involving the lumbosacral nerve roots. The patient underwent a course of chemotherapy. 18F-FDG PET/CT was ordered again at the end of treatment showing partial response to therapy. He underwent radiation therapy to the site of residual disease, with complete metabolic response of lesions on follow up PET CT.
To assess and determine the overall interdisciplinarity and impact of radiology and imaging sciences research.
Utilizing the Thomson Reuters Web of Science, the top 15 journals rank-ordered by impact factor in each of 10 major medical subspecialties were identified. The 2012 impact factors for these journals were noted. All articles published in these journals between 2012 and 2014 were then used to produce an index list of publications. We next generated a list of all published articles in the ensuing 5-year period that cited any publication present on our index list. These data were then used to calculate an interdisciplinarity score (DIV*) for 146 unique scientific journals. The correlation between the impact factor and the DIV* score was calculated with Kendall's τ.
The quantitative measure of research interdisciplinarity, DIV*, is significantly correlated with journal impact factor (τ=0.201, p<0.001). Research journals within radiology, nuclear medicine, and medical imaging ranked 5th among 10 cs that can expand the breadth and impact of radiology research as well as new ways to increase our reach and audience in the clinical scientific literature.Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) in freshwater bodies are mainly attributed to excess loading of nutrients [nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P)]. This study provides a comprehensive review of how the existing nutrient (i.e., N and P) conditions and microbial ecological factors affect cyanobacterial community succession and cyanotoxin production in freshwaters. Different eutrophic scenarios (i.e., hypereutrophic vs. eutrophic conditions) in the presence of (i) high levels of N and P, (ii) a relatively high level of P but a low level of N, and (iii) a relatively high level of N but a low level of P, are discussed in association with cyanobacterial community succession and cyanotoxin production. The seasonal cyanobacterial community succession is mostly regulated by temperature in hypereutrophic freshwaters, where both temperature and nitrogen fixation play a critical role in eutrophic freshwaters. While the early cyanoHAB mitigation strategies focus on reducing P from water bodies, many more studies show that both N and P have a profound contribution to cyanobacterial blooms and toxin production. The availability of N often shapes the structure of the cyanobacterial community (e.g., the relative abundance of N2-fixing and non-N2-fixing cyanobacterial genera) and is positively linked to the levels of microcystin. Ecological aspects of cyanotoxin production and release, related functional genes, and corresponding nutrient and environmental conditions are also elucidated. Research perspectives on cyanoHABs and cyanobacterial community succession are discussed and presented with respect to the following (i) role of internal nutrients and their species, (ii) P- and N-based control vs. solely P-based control of cyanoHABs, and (iii) molecular investigations and prediction of cyanotoxin production.Although concerns have been raised about the adverse effects of triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) on female fertility, its risk to ovarian functioning remains unknown. In this study, female C57BL/6 mice at postnatal day 21 were exposed on a daily basis to TPhP dose of 2, 10, and 50 mg/kg for 40 days. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/brusatol.html A significant delay in pubertal timing was observed in the mice exposed to 50 mg/kg of TPhP. An estrogen-responsive reporter transgenic mice assay demonstrated that TPhP significantly downregulated the estrogen receptor (ER) signaling by 45.1% in the whole body in the 50 mg/kg group, and by 14.7-43.7% in the uterus for all exposure groups compared with the control. This strong antagonistic activity of TPhP toward ER explained the delay in pubertal timing. A significant reduction in the number of follicles in all stages was observed in mice after being exposed to TPhP for 40 days at concentrations of 10 and 50 mg/kg, resulting in a decline of the ovarian reserve. The elevation of the follicle-stimulating hormone concentration may have contributed to this phenomenon, as controlled by the antagonistic activity of TPhP toward ER in the brain. The toxic effects of TPhP on ovarian functioning highlight this chemical as a potential risk factor for female fertility.Ammonia (NH3) emissions, the majority of which arise from livestock production, are linked to high concentration of PM2.5 and lower air quality in China. NH3 mitigation options were well studied at the small-scale (laboratory or pilot), however, they lack of a large-scale test in China. This study fills this crucial gap by evaluating the cost-benefit of pioneering NH3 mitigation projects carried out for a whole county - Sheyang, Jiangsu province, China. Measures were implemented in 2019 following two distinct strategies, improved manure treatment for industrial livestock farms, and collection and central treatment for traditional livestock farms. Emission reductions of 16% were achieved in a short time. While this is remarkable, it falls short of expectations from small-scale studies. If measures were fully implemented according to purpose and meet expectations from the small scale, higher emission reductions of 42% would be possible. The cost benefit analysis presented in this study demonstrated advantages of central manure treatment over in-farm facilities. With improved implementation of mitigation strategies in industrial livestock farms, traditional livestock farms may play an increasing role in total NH3 emissions, which means such farms either need to be included in future NH3 mitigation policies or gradually replaced by industrial livestock farms. The study found an agricultural NH3 reduction technology route suitable for China's national conditions (such as the "Sheyang Model").Size and magnetic separation of incineration bottom ash (IBA) are common for ferrous metals recovery, however, their influences on the mineral phase and the element redistribution, and subsequently the induced variation of metal leaching potential herein remain limited understanding. The lack of research in this field may misunderstand IBA performances, cause confused results for comparison among various studies, and potentially lead to biased conclusions. We herein quantitatively investigate the effects of size and magnetic separation on the IBA based on element distribution, leaching behavior, morphology, and mineralogy with statistical analysis. For preparation, sieving was performed with the original IBA (to obtain 7 size-fractions termed as OR1-7, respectively), followed by magnetic separation of each, to further yield magnetic fractions (MF1-7) to discriminate nonmagnetic fractions (NF1-7). In this study, we show that size and magnetic separation may pose significant yet different impacts on different fractions, which would affect their leaching potential concerning their respective downstream applications.The residue of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) exists throughout the environment and humans are subject to long-term exposure. As such, the potential environmental and health risk caused by low-dose exposure to PCBs has attracted much attention. 3, 3', 4, 4', 5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB126), the highest toxicity compound among dioxin-like-PCBs, has been widely used and mass-produced. Cardiotoxicity is PCB126's crucial adverse effect. Maintaining proper metabolism underlies heart health, whereas the impact of PCB126 exposure on cardiac metabolic patterns has yet to be elucidated. In this study, we administered 0.5 and 50 μg/kg bw of PCB126 to adult male mice weekly by gavage for eight weeks. Pathological results showed that low-dose PCB126 exposure induced heart injury. Metabolomic analysis of the heart tissue exposed to low-dose PCB126 identified 59 differential metabolites that were involved in lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. Typical metabolomic characteristic of cardiac hypertrophy was reflected by accumulation of fatty acids (e.g. palmitic, palmitoleic, and linoleic acid), and disturbance of carbohydrates including D-glucose and intermediates in TCA cycle (fumaric, succinic, and citric acid). Low-dose PCB126 exposure increased glycine and threonine, the amino acids necessary for the productions of collagen and elastin. Besides, PCB126-exposed mice exhibited upregulation of collagen synthesis enzymes and extracellular matrix proteins, indicative of cardiac fibrosis. Moreover, the expression of genes related to TGFβ/PPARγ/MMP-2 signaling pathway was perturbed in the PCB126-treated hearts. Together, our results reveal that low-dose PCB126 exposure disrupts cardiac metabolism correlated with hypertrophy and fibrosis. This study sheds light on the underlying mechanism of PCBs' cardiotoxicity and identifies potential sensitive biomarkers for environmental monitoring.Plastic pollution is an emerging stressor that increases pressure on ecosystems such as coral reefs that are already challenged by climate change. However, the effects of plastic pollution in combination with global warming are largely unknown. Thus, the goal of this study was to determine the cumulative effects of microplastic pollution with that of global warming on reef-building coral species and to compare the severity of both stressors. For this, we conducted a series of three controlled laboratory experiments and exposed a broad range of coral species (Acropora muricata, Montipora digitata, Porites lutea, Pocillopora verrucosa, and Stylophora pistillata) to microplastic particles in a range of concentrations (2.5-2500 particles L-1) and mixtures (from different industrial sectors) at ambient temperatures and in combination with heat stress. We show that microplastic can occasionally have both aggravating or mitigating effects on the corals' thermal tolerance. In comparison to heat stress, however, microplastic constitutes a minor stressor.
