The incidence curve of coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) shows cyclical patterns over time. We examine the cyclical properties of the incidence curves in various countries and use principal components analysis to shed light on the underlying dynamics that are common to all countries. We find that the cyclical series of 37 countries can be summarized in four principal components which explain over 90% of the variation. We also discuss the influence of complex interactions between biological viral natural history and socio-political reactions and measures adopted by different countries on the cyclical patterns exhibited by COVID-19 around the globe.Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has already affected millions of people worldwide. There are reports of SARS-CoV-2 transmission as a consequence of environmental contamination. The SARS-CoV-2 laden infective droplets can actively persist on the surface of different materials for several hours to days. Sunlight can affect the stability of SARS-CoV-2 in these aerosols and thereby have an impact on the decay rate of the virus. Solar radiation might play an important role in inactivating SARS-CoV-2 that persists in different surfaces and the environment. Among the different climatological factors, ultraviolet radiation was found to have an important role in determining the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Although ultraviolet radiation C (UVC), UVB, UVA, visible light, and infrared radiation possess germicidal properties, human CoVs including the recently emerged SARS-CoV-2 are inherently sensitive to UVC. However, the successful decontamination using other wavebands requires higher dosages and longer administration times. Furthermore, studies have also identified association between COVID-19 fatalities and the latitude. The intensity of sunlight is highest near the equator, and therefore populations in these regions with more regular exposure to sunlight are less susceptible to vitamin D deficiency. This article has analyzed the potential impact of sunlight in reducing SARS-CoV-2 transmissibility, morbidity, and mortality. It is evident that there exists an interesting link between sunlight exposure, latitude, and vitamin D status with COVID-19 incidence, fatality and recovery rates that requires further investigation.Head and neck paragangliomas are rare vascular tumors derived from the paraganglionic system, located at the carotid body, jugular vein, tympanic cavity and vagal nerve. From 2010 to 2020, a cohort of 26 patients divided in two groups, 15 with cervical paragangliomas and 11 with temporal bone paragangliomas, was reviewed by analysing the medical history, the epidemiological and clinical parameters, the imaging results and classification, the modality of treatment and outcome. Cervical paragangliomas present as firm and pulsatile mass with the characteristic aspect of "salt and pepper" on MRI T1 weighted sequences. The most common type on Shamblin classification was the type II. Total surgical resection was performed in 93,33% of cases. The sensitivity of MRI in the diagnosis of vagal paragangliomas was up to 75%, with a specificity of 90,91% and the correlation of the MRI results and the findings of surgical exploration is significant with p ⩽ 0.02. Temporal bone paragangliomas appear as pulsatile mass behind the tympanic membrane, causing variable hearing loss in 90,90% of the cases. The facial nerve is the most frequently affected cranial nerve, in 36,36% of the cases. The main type according to FISH classification is the type B. Embolization was performed in all type C tumors. Surgery was the first line treatment while the inoperable patients were considered for radiotherapy. The aim of this study is to report the main clinical features of head and neck paragangliomas, the imaging tools and findings evaluating their sensitivity and specificity and the treatment protocol and outcome. The tamponade leads to an increase in intrapericardial pressure, which impairs the diastolic filling of the ventricles and reduces ejection. However, the association with pulmonary arterial hypertension, which in turn leads to an intracardiac hyper-pressure, constitutes a compensatory mechanism. We report the case of a 23 year old patient followed for anemia due to martial deficiency for 2 years, who consulted us with right heart failure evolving for 5 months, a hemoptoic cough and chest tightness. Entinostat The entire workup revealed a pericardial and pleural tamponade of tuberculous origin associated with a pulmonary embolism evaluated at 15% according to the Qanadli score. After stabilization of her hemodynamic state, the patient was put on anti-bacillary and anticoagulant treatment with a good improvement of her cardiopulmonary state. She was discharged after 1 month (satisfactory check-up), regularly followed up in outpatient clinic with check-up of hemostasis and cardiac echography every 2 weeks. She was declared cured of her tuberculosis after 6 months of treatment. There was no recurrence after two years of follow-up. The combination of tamponade and pulmonary hypertension is synergistic in that it improves the patient's prognosis.
The aim of the current study was to examine the following hypotheses 1. Mothers who breastfeed their infants from 2 to 12 months of age or who use a mixed-feeding method after birth will demonstrate greater attachment toward their infants than mothers who only formula-feed their infants, as measured by the Maternal Attachment Inventory (MAI). 2. A difference in maternal attachment levels will be observed between mothers who exclusively formula-feed their infants and those who exclusively breastfeed their infants from 2 to 12 months of age, as measured by the MAI inventory, controlling for infant temperament.

A cross-sectional, descriptive, comparative method was applied in different healthcare centers in Jordan from May 2016 to August 2016 in which the MAI inventory was employed to assess 258 Arabic-speaking mothers. One-way analysis of variance was used to detect the differences in maternal attachment between mothers using different feeding methods.

The findings showed significant differences in maternal attachment between exclusive breastfeeding and exclusive formula-feeding mothers, and mixed-feeding mothers at 2 months (F=24.36, P<.01). Moreover, there was a statistically significant difference in maternal attachment between the breastfeeding and the formula-feeding group (F=24.358, p<.05) after holding temperament constant.

The results of this current study may help to clarify one role of breastfeeding in shaping a mother's attachment. Healthcare providers need to understand the influences of these variables on maternal attachment and attachment to empower young mothers and counsel them appropriately.

Supravesical hernia is an exceptional form of hernia that is often diagnosed intraoperatively. The abdominal CT scan performed in the emergency guides the preoperative diagnosis. Our work concerns a patient admitted to the visceral surgical department of the university hospital ibn Rochd of Casablanca for an occlusion dating back to 05 days, the abdmonial x-ray objectified hydro-aerial levels in the small intestine, and the CT scan found an invagination at the left fossa iliaca associated with a double hernia internal supravesical and left inguinal. The patient was then operated after conditioning and the diagnosis of an internal supravesical hernia was retained per operatively. Internal supravesical hernia is a very rare cause of acute intestinal occlusion and is often diagnosed at the time of surgical exploration.
Immune cells contribute with mediators in the protein expression profile of the tumor microenvironment. Levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) are elevated in non-malignant inflammatory conditions; however, the association between PAI-1 expression and inflammation remains uncertain in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). This study aimed to investigate PAI-1 expression in mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltrate in OSCC and its role as a prognostic marker.

Samples were collected from patients with OSCC, treated surgically, and followed for 24 months after the procedure. Thirty-nine tumoral tissue were analyzed using immunohistochemistry. Correlation between protein expression, clinicopathological parameters, and the prognosis was investigated.

Positive PAI-1 expression in mononuclear inflammatory cell infiltrate was significantly associated with lymph node status (p=0.009) and with the cytoplasmic expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) (p=0.028). Multivariate analysis revealed weak PAI-1 expression as an independent marker for lymph node metastases, with approximately 8-fold increased risk compared to strong expression (OR=8.60; CI=1.54-48.08; p=0.014).

Our results suggest that the strong PAI-1 expression in intratumoral inflammatory infiltrate is an indicator of a better prognosis for patients diagnosed with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

It argues that the interventionist plays a crucial role and should possess certain mental-manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination skills. The article suggests a series of measures that collectively determine the successful role of the interventionist in the Cath lab. This is of utmost importance given the sensitive nature of the cardiovascular procedures, the potential costs of its failure for the patient, and the key action played by the interventionist in determining the failure or success of the procedure.[This corrects the article DOI 10.1093/ckj/sfz055.][This corrects the article DOI 10.1093/ckj/sfz055.].
Chronic kidney disease is associated with a high cardiovascular risk. Compared with glomerular filtration rate-matched CKD patients (CKDps), we previously reported a 2.7-fold greater risk of global mortality among kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). We then examined aortic stiffness [evaluated by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (CF-PWV)] and cardiovascular risk in KTRs compared with CKDps with comparable measured glomerular filtration rate (mGFR).

We analysed CF-PWV in two cohorts TransplanTest (KTRs) and NephroTest (CKDps). Propensity scores were calculated including six variables mGFR, age, sex, mean blood pressure (MBP), body mass index (BMI) and heart rate. After propensity score matching, we included 137 KTRs and 226 CKDps. Descriptive data were completed by logistic regression for CF-PWV values higher than the median (>10.6 m/s).

At 12 months post-transplant, KTRs had significantly lower CF-PWV than CKDps (10.1 versus 11.0 m/s, P = 0.008) despite no difference at 3 months post-transplant (10.
